Just when you thought Donald Glover was all maxed out on talent, it appears as though he’s just getting started. On top of his headlining tour in support of “Awaken, My Love”, the highly-acclaimed second season of his series “Atlanta” and his forthcoming role in the new Star Wars movie, Glover also thought it’d be a good time to share some new Childish Gambino music.
During his performance on SNL last night, the multi-faceted artist premiered two new tracks, “Saturday” and “This is America”. The latter came with a new music video as well, and it’s by no means a visual that should be taken lightly. He teams up with go-to collaborator and director Hiro Murai for the 4-minute flick, as Gambino takes on issues of gun violence, terrorism and what it means to be black in America in the cultural moment we’re living in. That may seem like a lot to fit into one music video, and with that said, the actual song still manages to go hard, mixing a mellow, acoustic hook in between aggressive, trap-driven verses. Murai and Glover keep a viewer on their toes in their most ambitious video yet, and before I say too much, you should just go ahead watch for yourself.
