Protect My He(art) – [Kiraly Payne] prod. [5HERIFF]

A week after teasing his new project with the single “By My Side”, Chicago artist Kiraly Payne has released his ‘Protect My He(art)’ EP in full. As a rapper whose style has constantly evolved over his past few years in the context of Chicago’s independent hip-hop scene, ‘Protect My He(art)’ marks the most deliberate shift in his music yet, materialized by the embedding of more fleshed out melodies and experimental production completely done by 5HERiFF while still coming through with a fair share of impressive rapping to satisfy Payne’s core hip-hop listeners. Opening with the scene-setting “Hop In”, Payne makes it clear from the jump what he’s set out to accomplish with this EP. Filled with verses that largely relate to the EP title’s dual-meaning, Payne finds inspiration in his relationships, his own self-improvement, and the honing of his craft. Producer 5HERiFF (WARHOL.SS, Lucki) pushes the EP forward with his use of electronic elements and bright melodies that Payne’s able to match with his own vibrant energy. Listeners familiar with 5HERiFF’s more dark, trap-based production might be thrown for a loop when hearing this EP for the first time, but it seems the producer’s versatility thrives when paired with Payne …

Paid Dues – [Mulatto Beats] x [Warhol]

Mulatto Beats has been a staple in Chicago’s music community for the better half of a decade, he has helped many artists grow & advance their career and today he is back with a brand new record titled “Paid Dues” featuring fellow Chicago native Warhol! If you know anything about the prior music that these two creatives have released then you are surely aware of the chemistry they have together on a track, Warhol always seems to excel when he hops on Mulatto’s menacing instrumentals, and this new joint was certainly no disappointment. Stream this brand new offering below and if you enjoy it then go ahead and follow Mulatto on Twitter here!

Hooch – [Warhol]

Chicago native Warhol has been on a hot streak and he is continuing to provide the heat with his latest song, “Hooch”. Over the years, Warhol has proven that consistency is one of his biggest strengths, releasing music at an unprecedented pace and maintaining a loyal, diehard fanbase in the process while gaining new fans on the daily. On “Hooch”, his flows feel almost automatic, navigating the beat effortlessly with his signature grimy style. His menacing bars are amplified by producer Staccato’s ominous instrumental, adding an even harsher edge to Warhol’s already gloomy sound. This song is bound to appeal to fans who have been listening to Warhol for a minute and also serves as a quintessential introduction for new listeners. As he sits on the verge of next-level acclaim with an already big year behind him, Warhol does what he does best on this track and reminds us once again why he’s been a favorite artist of our’s for years. Listen to “Hooch” below!

CLASS CLOWN – [Luke Almighty]

It’s become nearly impossible to follow Chicago’s rising hip-hop scene without encountering a beat or two from producer Luke Almighty. Over the past few years, he has proven his knack for putting on new talent and boasts a roster of big voices both from the city and all over (Supa Bwe, Yung Bans, that continues to grow. Now, Almighty calls upon that roster for his own project. With features from many of his longtime collaborators and an appearance from Chicago legend Twista, ‘Class Clown’ gives the most cohesive look at the producer’s talent yet. Almighty put his name in the spotlight last summer with the release of his debut mixtape ‘Deliver Us From Evil’, and while that project offered a deep-dive into a sound he was already known for, ‘Class Clown’ expands upon his skills. Almighty proves he’s still in his bag when balancing hard 808s influenced by Chicago drill production and ambient synths on tracks like “Believe That”; Rappers KOMLA, KILLKAIN, and SANTIAGO trade verses on this song over rolling hi-hats and an eerie melody. While honing this sound, Almighty also experiments with more melodic elements and sampling, with songs like “Brand New” offering an upbeat change of …

Fly On The Wall – [Duffle Bag Buru]

Chicago’s own Duffle Bag Buru has built up a solid reputation and catalog as one of the cities best emcees over the past few years, but until now there was something missing, a FULL LENGTH PROJECT! I have been waiting for this (probably impatiently) for such a long time and I even got the chance to tell Buru a few times that I wanted a full length from him, so you can only image my excitement today when he unleashed his brand new project titled “Fly On The Wall”. The first couple of things that caught my attention about this tape were the interesting title and the well put together cover art, before diving into the music and within the first ten minutes I was on the edge of my seat, it is chop filled with SLAPPERS one after another the whole way through. There is a total of fifteen songs on this project and Duffle Bag Buru displayed a nice variety of different sounds on this tape, everything from hard knocking bangers to more slow tempo & introspective joints. I know it’s early to say, but I would be expecting to see this tape on our “Top 50 Chicago …

cheesy – [bbno$] & []

It’s understood at this point that bbno$ is not playing around.  Over the past few months, we have covered several of his stellar releases but today he has dropped one of his most exciting singles to date. On his latest release, he teamed up with Lyrical Lemonade icon Warhol who has been at the top of his game lately, killing any and every song he’s on. With both artists firing on all cylinders, this track is a perfect example of the versatility each emcee possesses. The production provided by Dilip is chaotic and features a deep bass line that would shake the windows in any house at the right volume. Warhol and bbno$ have been in the public eye for some time now but both of them have come into their own as of late and the music they’ve been pumping out reflects it. This collaboration has me incredibly excited to see who else bbno$ has been cooking up with, nothing would surprise me at this point. You can find “cheesy” on all platforms here! Kill Tek Piece – [] Ft. [Lil Mosey]

Earlier this week both Warhol & Lyrical Lemonade leader Cole Bennett hinted on social media that they would be teaming up to drop their first video together in over two years, and just a few minutes ago we were blessed with the final product, a stellar new visual for his brand new record titled “Kill Tek Piece” featuring Lil Mosey! is a Chicago legend and is one of the first artists that Lyrical developed a close relationship with way back toward the start, so this release feels special & nostalgic, but more importantly it’s the perfect embodiment of his level up. Warhol doesn’t get enough credit for being one of if not the best new artists of out Chicago, for real man we all have to take a step back and look at just how far he has come, he is no longer teenager rocking shows in Wicker Park every weekend, he is now on the verge of stardom and has been touring all around the nation for years now! I have loved Warhol’s music for a few years now and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this is arguably his best song to date, the …

LL Presents: The Matty Wood$ Q&A

Matty Wood$ is a creative out of St. Louis who I have been covering here on our website for some years now, but when he was recently in Chicago I brought him to the Lyrical Lemonade office for our first conversation face to face, and in turn we now have a dope new Q&A for the fans! Not only is Matty a super talented artist who creates great music, he has the overall look & charisma of a superstar and he just might be one of the funniest rappers I have ever met, and I am sure those traits will help him down the road. Most importantly, Matty has a great group of solid individuals around him in his 2200 crew that are going to keep him improving at all times, the sky is truly the limit for this young legend. Stream his latest album I’l Be Fine below while you check out the Q&A, and after you’re done be sure to follow Matty on Twitter here! — EM: Before we dive into the questions, give our readers who may not be familiar with you a brief introduction of yourself.   MW: You know who it is, Tony T, Matty …

Harry Cash – [Warhol.SS]

Warhol.SS made some serious noise last year with his highly-anticipated Chest Pains project, and now that he’s making the rounds and adding a visual component to the album, new life is being breathed into many of the standout songs. Such is the case today with the brand new music video for “Harry Cash”. Ominous in sound and chilling in lyricism, this fast-paced, hard-nosed offering always struck me as an illustrative track, and the visuals certainly speak to this. The Harry Fraud production is turned into a set of cold-blooded scenes in which Warhol perfectly depicts the unforgiving mood of the song, showing listeners exactly why Chest Pains was so impressive in the first place. Needless to say, “Harry Cash” is well worth the watch, so check this one out here:
