Insurgence – [Juntao]

This evening we have an artist that goes by the moniker of Juntao is making his first appearance on our lemon filled pages with his brand new tape titled “Insurgence”. I love browsing through the submissions because you can find plenty of talent, but the most interesting part to me is that most times it’s not even the artist him or herself sending the music, in this case is was actually the mother of Juntao who sent a nice email about her son and sure enough I enjoyed the music! The best part though, he’s from Chicago! Do yourself a huge favor and press play below.

Sydny August: One Of Chicago’s Gems is Continuing to Thrive

Sydny August is one artist out of Chicago that we have been covering since damn near the beginning, and if you are a hardcore & long time LL supporter you may remember way back when we first did a Q&A with Sydny in November of 2016, but today she is back as the feature of a brand new interview piece! Obviously Sydny has grown since the last time we sat down for a interview, at the time she was barely out of high school and was just getting started in her music career, and now she has become one of Chicago’s best young singers & is well on her way to a degree in English Creative Writing at University Of Kansas. About a month ago Sydny released her latest project titled Uni (You and I), and it is easily one of my favorite tapes to come out of the city this year, so I recently sat down with her to catch up with everything she has been doing and get a closer look at the idea that became this project. Stream her brand new project via Spotify  + watch her new visual below while you read through the interview, and …

Love Again – [Sydny August]

Sydny August is an artist out of Chicago who has been crafting and perfecting her sound for a few years now, and a couple of days back she released a beautiful new music video for “Love Again”. You can tell from the song and lyrics alone that Sydny put a ton of emotion and energy into creating this one, and it came out into a touching and all around heartfelt visual in large part thanks to video director @GaryLangeJr of Art House Factory. Sydny is a creative who I have been listening to since about 2015 and her music has been improving steadily up until this point, and I believe that she hasn’t even scratched the surface of her potential yet, I see nothing but bright things for her in the future and this new release is fantastic to say the least. Do yourself a favor and watch this new visual below.

Premiere: uni EP – [Sydny August]

Last month, the goat of Lyrical Lemonade, Elliot Montanez wrote a piece about up and coming artist Sydny August and ever since, I have been extremely hooked on her music. After the recent success of her latest single released, the talented Chicago vocalist is back with her new EP entitled uni (u and i).  There is a lot of raw talent circulating around the industry right now and in my opinion, Sydny is definitely at the top of that list. It’s not an exaggeration when I say I haven’t heard anyone quite like her in some time. The amount of passion she sings with makes you feel every single type of emotion as you listen in. This new EP takes us on a trip through Sydny’s deepest thoughts as she explores the hidden truths behind love and everything that comes with it. As you go through each song, you will instantly notice the amount of attention and detail that was emphasized in constructing this masterpiece. With only one feature throughout the 7 song project, Sydny proves that she has what it takes to become a head turner in this game. I’m so excited for her future and whats to come next. Lyrical …

Birdie – [KOTA The Friend]

A calculated rollout filled with influencers, Instagram beef,  high production value videos, and merch drops is cool, but I think there something to be said for keeping things simple and organic. KOTA The Friend is a perfect example. He first came to my attention when I stumbled across his “UltraLight Beam” freestyle, and I quickly got addicted to his mini-videos, and in turn, I quickly became hip to his stellar 2018 project, Anything. Needless to say, Kota’s natural, colorful feel was super refreshing, just as he keeps up with his latest release today. A week after announcing his May-bound debut album, Foto, Kota returns with the first single, “Birdie,” and it’s the perfect introduction to those who may be new to the Brooklyn emcee. Built around a mellow, understated beat — perfect for his smooth approach — he spits a love song about his lady, which, in true Kota fashion, is littered with illusions to traveling the world. Par for the course, the effort comes with a single-shot video, reflecting his personality and easy-going, fluid style. This is yet another fantastic release from KOTA The Friend, so be sure to check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments! Extra Credit: …

december – [syd B]

Today, I’m writing about a song that I’ve been bumping on heavy rotation for some time now. If you find yourself in the mood for a chill and relaxing vibe, keep on reading, because this one is for you. “December” is a track by 21-year-old singer/songwriter, Sydney Basket, who goes by the name of Syd B, and quite simply, it’s one of my favorite discoveries that I’ve made as of late. After two years of making music on her own, Syd decided to start her art project back in 2017 and hasn’t looked back since. That said, throughout the song, The LA native sings about her longing for “something better’ during the month of December. syd B is the type of artist who steers clear from the status quo, which is something you will notice when you hear her storytelling throughout the song. The smooth ambience created by this simple yet mesmerizing production is something that should be cherished, and equally as impressive are her velvety vocals. In this track, syd B is fighting for better times, which is something that we all should do. If you want to be whisked away to LA in the month of December, make …

While Chicago has been known as a reputable city in hip-hop for numerous years now, this revered position has not arrived without the constant innovation and hard work of the artists that so faithfully represent the prowess of their home city. It is these artists that we have to credit for this respected reputation, and we here at Lyrical Lemonade try to honor this in every way possible by constantly bringing new Chicago acts into our headlines here on our website. That said, 2018 has been yet another fantastic year for Chicago music, so we went ahead and compiled a list of our “Top 50 Chicago Projects” of the year. This now marks the third year that we have been putting out this list, and we believe that it’s safe to say this year’s list might just be the most solid one from top to bottom that we’ve seen yet. Thank you to our terrific writing staff for all of the hard work they have put in this year, I will be linking their socials below so be sure to contact them about getting featured on the website in the future. TINTS – [Anderson .Paak] feat. [Kendrick Lamar]

Anderson .Paak has released the video for his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar titled, “Tints.” The single is the first off his highly anticipated album, Oxnard, set to release November 16. The new video is cinematic to say the least, capturing the “dirty little secrets” that exist in every one of us. Anderson .Paak is the main character throughout the video playing a litany of roles, from the repair man, to a doctor and bus boy. The video features cameos from Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Syd and Tayla Parx. The video is everything we would expect from the dynamic musician furthering our anxiety for the release of his album. We are thoroughly excited for what Anderson .Paak has next and cannot wait to see what other creative visuals he has up his sleeve. Check out Anderson .Paak’s new video for “Tints” below and tell us what you think in the comment section!
