Birdie – [KOTA The Friend]

A calculated rollout filled with influencers, Instagram beef,  high production value videos, and merch drops is cool, but I think there something to be said for keeping things simple and organic. KOTA The Friend is a perfect example. He first came to my attention when I stumbled across his “UltraLight Beam” freestyle, and I quickly got addicted to his mini-videos, and in turn, I quickly became hip to his stellar 2018 project, Anything. Needless to say, Kota’s natural, colorful feel was super refreshing, just as he keeps up with his latest release today. A week after announcing his May-bound debut album, Foto, Kota returns with the first single, “Birdie,” and it’s the perfect introduction to those who may be new to the Brooklyn emcee. Built around a mellow, understated beat — perfect for his smooth approach — he spits a love song about his lady, which, in true Kota fashion, is littered with illusions to traveling the world. Par for the course, the effort comes with a single-shot video, reflecting his personality and easy-going, fluid style. This is yet another fantastic release from KOTA The Friend, so be sure to check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments! Extra Credit: …

Released – [Sydny August]

Sydny August is a super talented artist from Chicago who I have been covering here at Lyrical Lemonade since about 2015, and today she is finding herself back on our platform with the premiere of her brand new record called “Released”. Sydny has always had an ear for great production and that’s exactly what we got here as Db_Flock blessed her with a slow & steady yet beautiful instrumental, and Sydny took full advantage of the golden path in front of her and created an ear pleasing jam that anyone can vibe out to. Stream this brand new joint below and if you like what you hear be sure to keep up with Sydny by giving her a follow on Twitter here. produced by @db_Flock

december – [syd B]

Today, I’m writing about a song that I’ve been bumping on heavy rotation for some time now. If you find yourself in the mood for a chill and relaxing vibe, keep on reading, because this one is for you. “December” is a track by 21-year-old singer/songwriter, Sydney Basket, who goes by the name of Syd B, and quite simply, it’s one of my favorite discoveries that I’ve made as of late. After two years of making music on her own, Syd decided to start her art project back in 2017 and hasn’t looked back since. That said, throughout the song, The LA native sings about her longing for “something better’ during the month of December. syd B is the type of artist who steers clear from the status quo, which is something you will notice when you hear her storytelling throughout the song. The smooth ambience created by this simple yet mesmerizing production is something that should be cherished, and equally as impressive are her velvety vocals. In this track, syd B is fighting for better times, which is something that we all should do. If you want to be whisked away to LA in the month of December, make …

While Chicago has been known as a reputable city in hip-hop for numerous years now, this revered position has not arrived without the constant innovation and hard work of the artists that so faithfully represent the prowess of their home city. It is these artists that we have to credit for this respected reputation, and we here at Lyrical Lemonade try to honor this in every way possible by constantly bringing new Chicago acts into our headlines here on our website. That said, 2018 has been yet another fantastic year for Chicago music, so we went ahead and compiled a list of our “Top 50 Chicago Projects” of the year. This now marks the third year that we have been putting out this list, and we believe that it’s safe to say this year’s list might just be the most solid one from top to bottom that we’ve seen yet. Thank you to our terrific writing staff for all of the hard work they have put in this year, I will be linking their socials below so be sure to contact them about getting featured on the website in the future. Watch Vince Staples brand new interview with Vince Staples

Vince Staples is fresh off of the release of his fantasic new album, so it’s only right that he stopped over by BigBoyTv for an awesome new interview. You will find Big, Vince and the team speaking about plenty of interesting subjects such as his brand new album FM!, his relationship with Mac Miller, why Vince decided to use Big Boy on the album, deciding he wanted to make music at fifteen years old, his experience with the school system, why he titled the album FM, iPods, his relationship with Earl, Tyler & Syd, when he first got signed to Def Jam, taking care of his mother, the fake promo saying he was going to quit rapping and he even called his mother live on air. Check out this awesome new conversation below!

TINTS – [Anderson .Paak] feat. [Kendrick Lamar]

Anderson .Paak has released the video for his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar titled, “Tints.” The single is the first off his highly anticipated album, Oxnard, set to release November 16. The new video is cinematic to say the least, capturing the “dirty little secrets” that exist in every one of us. Anderson .Paak is the main character throughout the video playing a litany of roles, from the repair man, to a doctor and bus boy. The video features cameos from Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Syd and Tayla Parx. The video is everything we would expect from the dynamic musician furthering our anxiety for the release of his album. We are thoroughly excited for what Anderson .Paak has next and cannot wait to see what other creative visuals he has up his sleeve. Check out Anderson .Paak’s new video for “Tints” below and tell us what you think in the comment section!

Beauty & Essex – [Free Nationals] feat. [Daniel Caesar] & [UMO]

The Free Nationals have released their newest single from their highly anticipated, self-titled debut album. Many know the Free Nationals as the backing band for Anderson .Paak but what many don’t know is their heavy involvement in all of .Paak’s projects. Their newest single, “Beauty & Essex” is a sultry, bedroom bop about the feelings of overwhelming infatuation. Utilizing Caesar’s croon, the band matches his tone with subtle live instrumentation that act as an accentuation to the vocals. UMO (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) provides additional production value to the song giving it it’s psychedelic shimmer. The new album from the Free Nationals is set to feature Kali Uchis, Syd, Chronixx, Mac Miller and many more. Check out the Free Nationals new song with Daniel Caesar and UMO below and tell us what you think of the groovy new track in the comments!

The hardest working boyband in the world has recently released their new riotous video for “NEW ORLEANS.” This is the second video release from BROCKHAMPTON’s new album, iridescence. Directed by Kevin Abstract, the video is filmed in Sydney, Australia in what looks like a movie theater overflowing with hundreds of ecstatic BROCKHAMPTON fans. Opening up on Don McLennon, the video begins as fiery as the song does capturing McLennon aimlessly bouncing around rapping his verse. The video continues to individually profile each member of the group during their respected verse in the song. The video serves as a great example of the boyband’s character, utilizing their fanbase to create an anarchic atmosphere that they themselves become a part of. I applaud you if you are able to make it through this entire video without recklessly jumping around. Watch the new video below and tell us if you ended up breaking anything in the comments!

Ride – [Sydny August]

Sydny August has been a familiar name on our pages here at Lyrical Lemonade for a few years now, and today she is making her way back with her brand new offering titled “Ride”. I have been listening to Sydny’s music for awhile now and I believe most of her fans would agree with me when I say that her growth as an artist has been amazing to watch, she is truly (for lack of a better term) finding her sound & I am very excited about her future. I really enjoyed this new record and I know that you will too, check it out for yourself below!

435 – [Tyler The Creator]

435 is the latest single from none other than the one and only, Tyler The Creator. As always with Tyler’s music, the production on this track is unorthodox, but with Tyler spitting the raps, he makes it sound awesome. Have a listen below.
