The Top 10 Moments From Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash Festival

Creative Direction: @shotbycones We are a couple of weeks removed from our annual Summer Smash festival, and we are all still having major withdrawals from such a great weekend. After the past year that we had of quarantining, social distancing, and avoiding large events, it felt amazing to be able to come outside and enjoy our festival once again. With over 75 artists on our lineup ranging from the up-and-coming rappers to superstars and legends, it was truly a weekend to remember, and a special moment for not only Lyrical Lemonade but Chicago as a whole. I had the opportunity to work as a lead for the Summer Smash Media Team—a squad full of some of the best photographers and videographers in the game put together by our guy Cones. All weekend long, they captured tons of videos, photos, and clips of the entire run of show. While our full recap of the entire Summer Smash weekend is dropping very soon, I felt it would be a great idea to give my perspective on some of the best moments that happened during Summer Smash. At last, here are some of the best moments of Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash 2021!   …

Retail (Remix) – [Cam Wallace] feat. [Wiz Khalifa]

Houston-native Cam Wallace has been an artist that I have been championing a lot lately on this platform. Three’s just something about his approach to his artistry and the way he crafts his music that just reels me into his releases every single time he drops. Back in May, we covered his Wiz Khalifa-assisted track “Retail (Remix)” and it has been going crazy ever since its release. Spotify stats shows that the song has now earned over 1.2 million streams on that platform alone. To briefly recap the track, Cam and Wiz Khalifa (whose name is also Cam) trade verses over a chill instrumental as they both talk that talk. Today, he is back on our platform to drop off the new visual for his collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, “Retail (Remix)”. “Wiz always brings the ultimate vibes to any record he’s on. When I heard his approach to his verse, I was like ‘oh this is perfect’. He literally added another layer of cool to the record.” – Cam Wallace For the visuals, Cam Wallace sits sideline at a fashion show as he watched many beautiful ladies cross his path, admiring them all. As Wiz gets his verse off, he walks …

Drugs N Hella Melodies – [Don Toliver] feat. [Kali Uchis]

The Houston-hit maker known as Don Toliver is absolutely killing his album rollout and having the time of his life doing so. Since announcing the title of his upcoming album, Currently titled Life of a Don, it’s been all gas and no breaks when it comes to just how strategic he is with rolling this out. Recently celebrating his birthday, and spending more time with his lady and amazing songstress Kali Uchis, there is no way that Don can miss right now, and we are gearing up to witness one of the best albums to drop this year. Today, Don has released single number two from his album, titled “Drugs N Hella Melodies” featuring Kali Uchis.  Leaving fans at the edge of their seats from Don’s last video “What You Need”, it ended with a “To be continued…”. What we are witnessing here today, is the continuation of the story told in the last visuals. For a quick recap, Don Toliver is maneuvering around the town in Colombia, following a mysterious red aura. That aura led him into a forest in which he discovered Kali Uchis and he became captured by her essence. On “Drugs N Hella Melodies”, he then …

3AM (Remix) – [E BLEU] feat. [Derez De’Shon]

““I’m big on things happening organically. It started with Derez genuinely liking the song and showing me love just off that. I stopped in ATL for a promo tour a few weeks back and the rest is history. We left the studio at like 8am. Bro is one of the most solid people in this music thing.” -E Bleu Houston-native E Bleu has been making some solid moves within the industry as of late. Recently hitting over 30 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and his smash single “3AM” getting almost 200k streams on the same platform, it’s safe to say that his time is near. Making another appearance on our site, E Bleu is back with a remix to his smash “3AM”, this time featuring a guest verse from Atlanta-native Derez De’Shon. If you happened to miss the original release, E Bleu speaks on the creation of it and said, “I’ve always been a night owl. The energy at night is just different to me. I remember being in an Uber on the way home just mentally recapping the night and feeling like it’s somehow a pattern I fall into every night”. Continuing that same sentiment and vibe here, it’s …

Get Refreshed: One Year Of “How I’m Feeling Now,” The Nature of aldn, and Nigo Being Nigo

“Get Refreshed” is a weekly column by Billy Bugara covering all things digital in the music world. Refresh yourself here.  Cover by Parent Company Fresh Reflection: A Year Later, and How I’m Feeling Now Is Better Than Ever I never thought I’d say this, but let’s ignore “hyperpop discourse” for a moment. You know, the discourse that began in the summer of 2020 and still fervently lingers to this very day. It has made up the majority of this column’s content, the content of my closest working contemporaries, and has cast a cloud of influence over all music discourse and its respective content. It has dominated my life, and it has probably dominated yours, too. And I’d like to forget about it… at least for like 5 minutes or so. Because I want to take us all back to the album that arrived just before all of this discourse truly started to kick off and become as inescapable as it did and still is. Just before all eyes were placed on Charli XCX’s role in making the hyperpop playlist as forcefully influential as it is today, she put out an album that, in the context of everything discussed here, acted …

Huffy – [WebsterX]

Milwaukee native WebsterX is someone who we are very familiar with here at Lyrical Lemonade, we have been fans of his for years, there’s an interview + recap video of his from 2015 that live on the LL YouTube channel, and he even performed at our legendary concert with Lil Uzi Vert back in the day. WebsterX has always been one of my favorite artists out of the midwest, he always rhymes with conviction, making music with a purpose, and at the same time, it’s just flat out addicting. I don’t want to sound too dramatic, but this song just might be my favorite song that I have heard all year, and the AMAZING music video along with it made it that much better. I loved this music video because it’s honestly a simple concept when you think about it, it’s not a big-budget video, but they executed their idea to its fullest potential and made a better visual with pure effort than most people do with big-time budgets. Much love to the video director Cody LaPlant, he’s been doing great work for a minute now, and this just might be my favorite project he’s ever done. I hope to …

007 – [Rot Ken]

Although Atlanta always seems to get all the clout and recognition when a new southern artist comes out of the woodwork, which seems to be every single day, not every artist is from the Georgia capital. This goes for Augusta’s very own Rot Ken, a rising talent who is only 17 years old, and although this city might be better known for the most popular golf tournament in the world (The Masters), it’s also the second-largest city in the state, so you know that there have got to be some talented individuals immerging from there as well. I might’ve just been put onto this young talent, but that doesn’t mean he’s new to others considering he has caught the eye of many prominent ears that are sure to help him get to the next level, and his most recent offering “007” is definitely going to have you bobbing your head and realizing why he’s beginning to gain some much-deserved traction with his music. In this one, some very interesting and momentous synths are used in combination with a mischievous flute, rattling percussion, and pounding drums that are the perfect foundation for a trap anthem such as this one. As Ken …

Risk – [Landon Cube]

It’s no secret that Landon Cube is a pretty close friend of Lyrical Lemonade’s. Ever since he teamed up with Lil Skies to bring their hit song “Red Roses” to life and got Cole to shoot the visual, the bond was created, and I don’t think it could ever be broken. Landon’s just such an easy artist to root for because he seems like such a normal, down to earth persona rather than this inhuman superstar that he honestly probably is. Back in early December, Landon finally decided to drop off his debut album Sapphire, a 14 song, half-hour-long project that gave fans an even deeper, more introspective look at the incredible talent beyond all the pomp and circumstance that his life might seem to contain from the outside looking in. While fans seem to be as loyal as ever supporting his album, as they should, Landon isn’t even close to done with the fun he has been creating with this release. To further emphasize his point, he recently decided to drop a music video for a cut of the album entitled “Risk”, and I couldn’t be more excited with the results. Landon teamed up with director Sam McGrath, a …

Delectable – [TyFontaine]

It’s no secret that I’m a massive fan of Internet Money, and I have been even longer before their unbelievable album dropped. I can press play on any song by Iann Dior, Poorstacy, Lil Spirit, Turbo, or anyone else on their roster and be transported to an entirely new universe in the blink of an eye. Just a week ago, Internet Money’s very own Tyfontaine dropped off his brand-new single “Cuff Jeans”, and I haven’t gone a day without listening to it probably ten or more times. Its hook is absolutely incredible, his verse is as impressive as it is diverse, and his abundance of talents are sprinkled all over the short offering. Fast forward seven days, and it turns out that the fun is only beginning. As he has been preparing fans for the release of his second project of the year entitled We Ain’t the Same, he finally announced the mixtape’s official release date, which is next Friday, as well as the tape’s tracklist which includes features from 24kGoldn, Coi Leray, TheHxliday, and of course Lil Keed on their previously released single “Duse N Juice”. With a list of 16 songs, there’s no telling what we can expect, …
