Bloom – Jack Swoon Remix [R.I.Pablo] x [Jack Swoon]

“I hit up Jack after I heard “Somebody.” I must have played it 100 times. I was obsessed. It’s just so original and trippy, and I felt like we were both trying to achieve similar things in our own lanes. I was so happy when he actually agreed to do it! Jack really brought the track into a darker space. It sounds like “Bloom’s evil twin or like you’ve gone into a really dark space at a party, but it’s alright you can still vibe there for a little too” –  R.I.Pablo “When I heard the original I instantly connected with the vocal. I loved everything about it, timing, delivery, subject matter, everything! It had exactly what I look for in a vocal for my own tracks. With the remix I envisioned stripping back the music and letting the vocal do the hard work as that was the star of the show. I just added my signature bass and keys as well a tasty guitar lick on top so it could be something I could play in my sets. Worked perfectly!” – Jack Swoon UK based artist R.l.Pablo recently released his nature-inspired Bug Lyf EP, and the Jack Swoon remix …

MALDEAMORES – [moanday] feat. [GOMZ]

The beauty of the internet is tapping into the creativity of artists anywhere in the world, leading me to the funk-centric single from Madrid-based duo moanday. The pair made up of Rafael Pérez Santonja and Pablo Vergara de Cantos, have released their latest single, “MALDEAMORES,” featuring GOMZ and the collaborative effort is nothing short of a groove-inducing anthem that teeters the line between English and Spanish lyricism atop funk-soaked guitar riffs. With an eclectic background in music, the quickly ascending duo spent their formidable years in the United States, returning to Spain after their College careers, then immediately forming the funk-pop tandem you hear today. Although the duo’s latest single is my personal favorite from the pair thus far, there is no denying the group’s earlier releases, “Blue Ceiling” and “Tell Me,” both monumental flagships in the duo’s budding discography. Listen to “MALDEAMORES” by moanday featuring GOMZ below.

The Color Blue – [D2X]

Back in the day when we used to hear legends such as Kanye West & Pharrell Williams refer to sounds as colors and how their music “paints pictures”, it may have been a hard concept to get a grasp on. It’s obvious that sound waves aren’t visible, so the average listener may let statements like this go over their heads. As we mature and we become students of the game, we understand the importance of it. When music is fueled by real-life pain, emotions, and situations, these colors begin to show in the music. Each feeling is accompanied by color, and each color has a meaning. Often so, we see these colors in album art and think nothing of it. Chicago up-and-comer D2X took this artistic approach and applied it to his debut album, The Color Blue. “The color blue, in definition means peace, wisdom, understanding, as well as its association to spiritual realization. It also represents sadness/calmness. My album The Color Blue is really about me finding myself. It’s an album in sync of nostalgia, as well as emotional twists and turns that I deal with in my everyday life. I grew inspiration from Pablo Picasso’s “Blue Period” which was a …

Lil Yachty Interview: Five Years In & Still Persevering

“When I was like 18, I used to really care about what everybody thought about my music and it used to get to me. I just started to realize that when you do good, people will criticize you, and when you do bad, they still criticize you.” -Lil Yachty Photo Cred: Gunner Stahl If there’s one thing that the roller coaster of a year that was 2020 has showed us, is that time is flying by. It seems like just a couple of years ago we were introduced to Apple Music and transitioning to an all-digital era of music. Some of the favorite songs, albums and mixtapes that existed over the last half of a decade are aging faster than we can count to 10, and  we are even nearing the anniversary of some projects turning 10 this year. It sounds crazy to even say this out loud, but 2021 will be the 5 year anniversary of the amazingly iconic XXL Freshmen class of 2016. Regardless of what good or bad may have happened in peoples lives that year, we can all agree that 2016 was a very important year for music. It sparked the brand new generation of rap–a …

Whole Lotta Red – [Playboi Carti]

Suspense can make or break an album. There is truly no getting past the fact that the way one builds up anticipation for a particular project plays an integral role in how that same project ends up being received as once it finally sees a release. This idea has made such albums as Frank Ocean’s Blonde and Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo as incredibly momentous and gratifying as they were come their respective releases, but it has also made for quite the few underwhelming releases like Lil Wayne’s ever-divisive Tha Carter IV. Simply put, acts that repeatedly act on the idea of suspense are essentially betting on themselves for both critical and commercial acclaim. This scenario is one that Playboi Carti absolutely had to find himself in if his long – and it bears repeating – long-awaited album Whole Lotta Red were to ever come out. The speculation had grown to seemingly immeasurable levels by themselves; the hype was not just through the roof, but through the stratosphere. And yet, after 3-plus years of this unprecedented teasing game that Carti himself had played with his audience, it finally happened in 2020.  But as with any project that has this …

10 Year Anniversary: Revisiting Kanye West’s Magnum Opus, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’

“Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it/Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it/Guess every super hero need his theme music” -Kanye West on “Power” The Chicago legend that is Mr. Kanye Omari West–many people love him, some people hate him. Regardless of how you feel about him, his views, personality traits, political stance, etc., it’s almost impossible to deny the impact he has had on this world, amazing level of artistry that he has delivered, and crowing him as nothing less than a musical genius. While as of late, his music may not be resonating with the listeners as it once did ten years ago, or even five years ago after the release of his highly-anticipated and critically acclaimed project The Life of Pablo, hip-hop historians and all-around music lovers never count out Kanye West as being one of the best creatives of all time. November 22, 2010 would be the day that Kanye West would release his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Little did he know that it would go down as one of the best musical bodies of work of all time, and end up being arguably one of the best …

The Life of Pablo | Forever Fresh

Today’s world has certainly skewed nearly every single aspect of life as it once was some five years ago. In an everyday landscape that sees this unprecedented deadly outbreak go hand-in-hand with some of the most heightened political unrest throughout history, it seems almost comical that in late-2015 leading into 2016, the world was very, very concerned with the now-tame antics of one Kanye West. The man spent that period announcing an album, changing its title a number of times, and all-around doing what was then known as just “silly Kanye things” — nothing more, nothing less. But oh my, were we all invigorated. If anyone today were to tell another individual at that time that Kanye’s actions and overall popular presence would become exponentially worse, problematic, and purely reactionary above all else, they may agree, but certainly not to the sincerely frightening scope that he ended out that decade with. So with that being said, it makes looking back at this far more “down to earth” version of Ye quite a lot more fascinating by itself, and absolutely more refreshing by extension given the man we see today and the world that we all live in together. As off-the-wall …

My Dawg – [21 Savage] x [Metro Boomin]

Just last week, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin finally delivered their highly anticipated collaborative album Savage Mode II, and fans have eaten it up ever since. I have to admit, my first run through I enjoyed, but I had some skepticism. Since the first listen, though, I have revisited it probably more than ten times in its entirety and it has rapidly become one of my favorite projects to drop all year. The inclusion of Morgan Freeman’s narration was as unexpected as it was brilliant and hearing him describe certain situations related to the streets was unbelievable. The plethora of samples, beats, and homage being paid to other artists throughout the album are remarkable, and I want to go and listen to it all over once again after just talking about it. “My Dawg” is a standout on the album not only because of the catchy vocals and infectious flows, but 21 also goes into detail about the situation that arose early last year dealing with being born in the U.K. where he talks about how much of a struggle that was for him and his family. Luckily, the new content doesn’t just stop at the album, and the super …

Get in My Bag – [Hoodrich Pablo Juan] & [Danny Wolf]

Hoodrich Pablo Juan and Danny wolf are obviously no strangers when it comes to working with each other, and few duos make nearly as much magic as these two talents do. Danny has obviously been paving the way for underground artists for years at this point, and Hoodrich Pablo Juan has been one of those artists who constantly breaks through barriers and pleases fans with every new drop. Although it’s been a few years since their latest installment to the Hoodwolf series, you know they’re going to make a hit every time they get together no matter how much time has passed. HPJ’s hard work has been as consistent as ever this year, and although this consistency has been provided through a plethora of random loosies and a project called Hood Champ back at the beginning of summer, his output has been a constant throughout his extensive career in music. Luckily, he and Danny teamed back up to provide us with a brand-new single entitled “Get in My Bag”, and the results speak for themselves. Danny’s eerie instrumental begins with creepy, haunting synths before eardrum-shattering 808s shake your speakers and spread out, tapping percussion consumers your ears and captivates your …

Premiere: Pablo – [18veno]

Since the last time we spoke with South Carolina’s 18veno, the BoyMeetSpace representative has been on a tear, offering new music and new videos every few weeks for the past couple of months. In light of this consistency – never misstepping and always raising the bar – Veno has quickly transformed into a favorite for next up out of South Carolina. Today, he’s here to prove it with an official stamp: his debut project, Pablo. 11 tracks long, Pablo fuses Veno’s massively versatile skillset into a pot of mean-mugging charisma, quotable lyrics, and otherworldly production. The result is a project that not only has something for everyone, but flows seamlessly as a whole, upping the ante with each successive track. You couldn’t write a better story. Coming from Winnsboro, South Carolina, Veno landed in company with jetsonmade and Neeko Baby, among others, all of the sudden being paired with some of the best producers in music to kickstart his career. And when it came time to take that first step into the spotlight, Veno didn’t fold. He’s been on an unstoppable rise over the past few months, with Pablo as the celebratory exclamation point to cap it all off. This project is the …
