security – [koi]

If you know anything about my writing, you should know that I try my best to never miss out on a video that Overcast releases because they’re one of my favorite music video production companies in the world. Their creativity is never anything less than immaculate and the artists they work with are always unbelievably talented, so I don’t think they could miss if they tried. Although. They put me onto new artists all the time, I always love when they work with talents that I’m already familiar with, so when I saw that they teamed up with koi to release a visual for his song “security”, you already know that I was one of the first people to watch. Although this video is a bit tamer when compared to some of their other work over the past couple of years, that doesn’t mean it’s not still an incredible piece of art, and it helps cement the legacy of this wonderful song that koi put together. Things begin in a library as koi walks up and down the aisles while books float around in his vicinity. Various shots take place in different areas of the book collection before we see …

Mayhem – [Kody Lavigne]

Kody Lavigne is an artist I just found out about no more than a month ago when he teamed up with Overcast for a music video for his song “need melatonin”, and ever since I have been a fan. The growing hyperpop scene is constantly flourishing and I find out about new artists literally every day, but it takes a lot for an artist to truly stand out, yet Kody is a talent who I have admired since the moment I first heard his music. While he is still making a name for himself in this competitive yet prominent subgenre of music, I’m beyond excited to talk about his most recently released song entitled “Mayhem” because it’s a banger in every sense of the word. Produced by Theogotit, Bart How, and Nest, there are some very pungent 808s in the instrumental that combines with a lighthearted, electronic-forward melody as well as percussion that sets up the perfect tempo for him to show off his skills, and I think it’s yet another flawless track that is only going to strengthen his already impressive discography. As he begins to sing the hook, his vocals come through confidently yet relaxed, seeming as if …

runaway – [juno]

If you’re hip to the hyperpop music scene, you should know that Overcast is a company that is in touch with some of the smaller yet very promising artists, and they’re one of my favorite sources to go to when finding out about new talents. Not only this, but I’ve made it obvious in my various other articles that their music videos are some of my favorite visuals in the entire world, so I never miss a drop whenever they release something new. Most recently, Overcast and their director Daniel Jordan K teamed up with juno, a blossoming young artist who has been making waves in the hyperpop scene, and they decided to bring his Hallow and Ryo-produced song “runaway” to life, which is the lead single off of his upcoming EP dream logs. When the video begins, juno wakes up inside a classroom that seems to be full of other misfits who look to cause trouble. A note gets passed to him, which he opens, and it reveals the title of the song as it begins to play, and the more this portion of the video continues to progress, it seems as if this seems more like after-school detention …

Juice – [Danny Orange]

If there’s one thing I love about creatives, it’s the fact that they never box themselves into one category or back themselves into a corner where they limit their inventiveness. For Daniel Jordan K, he has been making a very strong case as to why he’s one of the hottest directors on the come up with his production company Overcast, but what so many people don’t realize is the fact that he has an alter ego that goes by the name Danny Orange, and he’s making some of the best music in the underground right now. Luckily, he always knows who to go to in order to direct some of the best visuals out, and this is obvious in the self-directed music video for his latest song “Juice”. This video is full of colors and good vibes, something that I definitely can’t let go unnoticed considering the lighthearted, upbeat energy of the record itself. Various different versions of Danny are shown throughout, opening with a child version who is tossing goldfish crackers into his mouth as he plays with a Tech Deck and watches the TV. As the camera pans in on the television, a group hangs out on a …

Cheater – [Saiah] ft. [Tom the Mail Man]

Just a couple of weeks ago, I was put onto Saiah and their unbelievable music, and I have been hooked ever since. Their song “Cheater” with Tom the Mail Man was my introduction, and while I still need to dive even deeper in order to fully grasp all of the incredibly sonic sounds that they’re bringing to life, I couldn’t help but write about the brand-new Daniel Jordan K and Overcast-directed music video for the record. Overcast literally never misses and they have an entire team full of talented creatives who make sure that whoever they’re working with, they’re going to make the best visual possible for their song, and this one is definitely no exception whatsoever. Opening things up, a set of still shots are shown from a wild night that Saiah and Tom had with their group friends complemented with colors, face paint, and wild antics that I’m sure added up to a night they’ll never forget. From here, Saiah is hanging out in a room on their bed where they flip through a notebook as they’re wearing cut and sewn garments as well as some intriguing body paint that accentuates Saiah’s look wonderfully. From here, a wild …

Lotto – [TiaCorine] ft. [DaBaby]

The female wave of hip-hop and rap music has been upon us for quite some time now, and I couldn’t be more appreciative. Just thinking about all of the amazingly talented women in this industry is enough to make me smile and be thankful for the incredible music they’re making, and it seems like every day, I find out about someone new. Most recently, I haven’t gone a day without hearing about TiaCorine, and while I don’t know much about her or her music, at this point, when I saw she teamed up with DaBaby and Overcast to create a music video for their song “Lotto”, I couldn’t have been more ready to write about it. Things open up in a casino as DaBaby and Tia sit around a pink-colored table full of feathers and frills, making it a table you most likely wouldn’t see on the Las Vegas strip. While DaBaby raps his verse, shots from the security cameras zoom in on him, allowing him to show off his various diamond-studded jewelry pieces as he recites his lyrics. From here, Tia raps the hook as she kicks back with her feet on the table in an all-pink outfit, shooting …

need melatonin – [Kody Lavigne]

Although I like to take pride in uncovering promising up-and-coming artists before anyone else, the fact of the matter is that it is quite literally impossible for me to discover everyone. That’s why I often turn to friends, family, and other internet entities to find out who I need to pay attention to early on in their careers. One of my go-to places is almost always the Overcast YouTube channel, because they’re working with some of the most prominent up and comers in this day and age, and without some of their amazing music videos, I would have no idea that some of these massively talented artists existed. Just the other day, they decided to team up with Kody Lavigne to shoot a music video for his song “need melatonin”, and I was absolutely stunned at the results. Kody was an artist I wasn’t very knowledgeable about prior to this offering, but director Daniel Jordan K always brings the most out of the artists he works with, and Kody’s song undeniably speaks for itself first and foremost. As it opens, Kody and another gentleman wearing a suit as well as a bag on his head can be seen hanging out …

glittr – [aldn]

Hyperpop has pretty much consumed my life over the past few months, and I constantly find out about new artists on a daily basis. Out of everyone I have come across, aldn has become one of my all-time favorite musicians for more reasons than I can count, and when I first heard his song “glittr”, I was undeniably sold. You can only imagine how over the moon I was when I found out he was dropping a music video for this hit, and I was even more excited to learn the fact that Daniel Jordan K and Overcast were taking the reins for this visual, so I had to share it with you all as soon as I possibly could. Opening up, aldn is sitting in the middle of a dark, empty room typing into an old computer before pressing a button to prompt the song’s drop. When this happens, he is transported to another dark scene where shiny green strands of tinsel drape behind him as actual glitter covers his face and hair. Obviously, glitter is a major part of this visual, but so is the color green which comes up again sporadically during a scene where he sits …

melatonin – [Zac Greer]

Over the past couple of months, Overcast has become one of my absolute favorite music video production companies. Not only are they making some of the most creative visual to date, but they’re working with some of the most promising, underground, and even certain undiscovered talents that the world needs to know about. While I might’ve gotten into their offerings from hyperpop visuals and their work with artists like ericdoa, midwxst, glaive, and brakence, I have been introduced to multiple other acts such as XIX, lilspirit, koi, and most recently, Zac Greer. Although I have known about Zac ever since I began to watch their visuals, I somehow didn’t realize exactly how unbelievably talented he was until his most recent song “melatonin”. When this track dropped not very long ago at all, I was consumed with not only the upbeat, bouncy instrumental and Zac’s incredible vocals, but I was also captivated by the way he was able to share his story about the hardships of a relationship that fell through his fingers because I think that’s something so many listeners can relate to on a very personal, melancholic level. That’s why, when I found out he was teaming up with …

Hotel Bed – [Chelsea Collins] x [Swae Lee]

“We fell in love, but I was living in LA and he was living in Utah. I felt like he didn’t understand my passion for music as well as my struggles with depression, and it was starting to make me hate myself. I ended up breaking up with him without a reason other than little excuses. I still regret parts of it to this day – he truly was one of the only people I’ve met who saw me for the person I really am, the person I’m scared to show most people – and I think me ruining that relationship stemmed from me thinking that some things are too good to be true” – Chelsea Collins LA’s rising pop artist Chelsea Collins nets her Lyrical Lemonade debut with a fiery song and visual entitled “Hotel Bed.” The 22-year-old  recruited fellow superstar Swae Lee on the romantically charged single, which is inspired by an ugly break up due to her personal dealings with depression. Despite the pleasure-filled sex scenes throughout the video, there is an ominous overcast of conceptual emptiness, as Collins comes to the realization that she’s discarded the only person that truly understood and respected all of her …
