SURFIN – [Kojima Plus] feat. [ZAYALLCAPS]

Though the world of upcoming artists is decorated with an endless roster of undeniable talent and boundary-pushing music, few artists get support from me like Kojima Plus and ZAYALLCAPS. Carter Fife devotees (my mom) might recognize Kojima Plus from the TikTok favorite “snow elf” or LL coverage for his last project SKYLINE UNLIMITED – an EP decorated with futuristic and genre-blurring bangers from one of LA’s best kept secrets. On SKYLINE UNLIMITED there exists a bop known as “SURFIN”, an atmospheric and hypnotic R&B-meets-hip-hop-meets-DnB anthem featuring two of underground music’s most cherished darlings. Enter Kojima Plus and ZAY: together they unite to amplify each other’s undeniable artistic spirit and charisma on what is possibly the best song of 2022. This month fans are treated to “SURFIN”‘s long-awaited visual, a hazy and melancholic masterpiece filled with 203 seconds of raw and film grain sunset vibes. Directed by SEBCUBILLE – shots of the beach and airplanes flying overhead are juxtaposed against shots of Kojima and special guest ZAY simply doing their thing. If the visual leaves you ravenous to see this song performed live – you’re not alone, but you’re also too late. The duo recently performed this track together at LA’s Jojank & …

JAPANESE SYNTH (MOODS RADIO MIX)-[kojima plus]

Does your ‘going out’ playlist need some freshening up? Are you and your friends tired of dancing to Honestly Nevermind and Brent Faiyaz? Are you tired of clubs that charge you 15$ for the worst Vodka Soda you’ve ever had in your life? Me too – and the sad truth these days is that fewer and fewer people can relate to our struggles. Thankfully last week LA’s very own kojima plus returned with the long-awaited Moods Radio remix to “Japanese Synth”. Named after the LA-based multimedia collective of the same name, the remix to “Japanese Synth” is a fast-paced and ~kaleidoscopic~ take on kojima’s previously-released hip-hop banger. Featuring dreamlike instrumentation, pounding kicks, and little vocal samples trashing (fairly) one of LA’s most anodyne clubs – “JAPANESE SYNTH (MOODS RADIO MIX)” is the perfect track for spending your nights virtually anywhere but Vermont and 3rd. Between kojima plus’s recent success on TikTok and the painstakingly polished SKYLINE UNLIMITED EP released earlier this summer, 2022 is certainly gearing up to be the year of kojima. With more music and visuals likely slated for release soon, kojima plus is an artist worth keeping an eye on this year. Check out kojima plus new single “JAPANESE SYNTH …

SKYLINE UNLIMITED – [kojima plus]

If you’ve spent any amount of time on TikTok this past spring, it’s likely that you’ve come across LA native kojima plus and his signature blend of hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music. Going from effectively 0 to 3400+ followers in a matter of weeks, the South Central artist is quickly picking up traction with his near-genreless music that pulls from a wide range of styles and influences (Toro Y Moi, Kanye West, Choker). Kojima’s an artist known only by the lucky few that keep their ears to the ground – but that changes today. Returning this week with his newest EP SKYLINE UNLIMITED, kojima plus hones his sound even further with five futuristic new tracks that span the genre register from hip-hop and pop to plugg and electronica. From the opening cinematic energy of “Saturn” to the final moments of space-age psychedelia on “Surfin’”, SKYLINE UNLIMITED is the most concentrated and boundary-pushing release from kojima plus thus far. Tracks like “Colors” are sparkling and melodic cuts that could have been pulled straight from Channel Orange, while the anthemic “Japanese Synth” sounds like an alternate reality where Kevin Abstract existed in the Cowboy Bebop universe. Synthesizing multiple influences and elements into something …

ichigo ichie – [kojima plus] ft. [Skiez 7]

May is here – which means that summer is finally right around the corner. As we scramble to assemble our poolside playlists, many of us are looking for the perfect tracks to keep in rotation as the weather begins to improve. This week the search ends, as South Central prodigy kojima plus returns with “ichigo ichie” featuring Skiez 7. Aside from kojima plus’s presence in the blog space – you may know him from his recent success concocting viral TikToks and producing bangers like “Pasadena” or last year’s “snow elf”. Sporting a lofty and dreamlike mix complemented by its hard-hitting and futuristic percussion, kojima holds nothing back on what is hopefully the first step in his next album rollout. Joined by Skiez 7, our LA-based king details a bittersweet relationship wrought with tension on “ichigo ichie” – but around the track’s second act, listeners are taken through a jazzy beat-switch. Skiez 7 then enters the scene with an equally nostalgic and lighthearted verse, and a bow is put on the incredible gift given to us by kojima. Genre-wise it’s hard to contextualize “ichogo ichie”, and though it has the charm and sincerity of a bedroom-pop banger, kojima’s delivery and production …
