Right Now – [Jaah SLT] ft. [Young Nudy]

After finding out about Jaah SLT just a few months ago, I constantly find myself being surprised and on my toes when it comes to his music. Just when I thought he was one of the more aggressive, carefree, and ruthless artists in the music industry, he completely switches up the vibes and goes in a different direction, doing so as effortlessly and naturally as anyone possibly could. This is clear as day on his most recent project 9-25-20, where he mixes in some heavy, gritty sounds with other, more jazzy styles that shouldn’t work together from the outside looking in, but complement one another in such a remarkable fashion, words just don’t do it justice. It’s a project you just have to hear to understand what I mean, and it’s well worth the listen if you somehow haven’t heard it already. This is as obvious as ever on one of the standout tracks on the project “Right Now” featuring Young Nudy, where he incorporates some Jazz-influenced Trap sounds that almost come off as being slightly playful and elementary while Jaah’s bouncy delivery and lighthearted flows shine through unlike anything else you’ll hear on the entire tape. I’m going to …

Grimey – [Jaah SLT] ft. [Sleep Walkin SLT]

Out of all the low-key hubs for Rap music around the country, North Carolina just might be the most slept on. Whether artists are local legends, barely coming onto the scene, or on the cusp of breaking through to the masses, there are so many different styles and talents coming out of the East Coast state. Out of all the artists, Jaah SLT is one person who I have only just recently found out about but have enjoyed diving deeper into his archives. With the announcement of his upcoming project 9-25-20, which is set to release that very day later this month, he decided to get even more momentum moving in his direction be releasing a music video and a single off of the project entitled “Grimey”. He recruited fellow SLT member Sleep Walkin SLT to assist him and although this was my first introduction to his crewmate, I was thoroughly impressed. Spread-out, tiptoeing, somewhat creepy synths create a simple melody for the instrumental while rattling percussion and speaker busting 808s take the mainstage and provide Jaah with a hard-hitting base to build off of. As he comes in, he divides up his lines, reciting a few words at a …

Real Shit – [Jaah SLT]

Prior to just recently, I was somehow unfamiliar with Charlotte emcee Jaah SLT. I’m a bit ashamed and embarrassed about this, to be honest, because I have followed the North Carolina scene somewhat closely in recent years, so the fact that he’s been blowing up and I kept a cheek turned is unacceptable. I guess it’s better late than never when it comes to learning about his music, and now that I’ve been formally introduced, I’m left with no choice but to tune into his new releases moving forward. Based on his most recent single “Real Shit”, I can tell that his style is right up my alley and I couldn’t be more anticipative of what he has to come in the future. The beat is simplistic but menacing at the same time, including chattering, lingering high hats along with pungent 808s, and a bit of a haunting melody that all come together for a foundation that Jaah seems all too comfortable with. The way he speaks as he begins to recite his lyrics is insistent and attention-grabbing, but there’s really not a ton of effects or alterations to his voice keeping his messages pure and intact. There also just …
