SURFIN – [Kojima Plus] feat. [ZAYALLCAPS]

Though the world of upcoming artists is decorated with an endless roster of undeniable talent and boundary-pushing music, few artists get support from me like Kojima Plus and ZAYALLCAPS. Carter Fife devotees (my mom) might recognize Kojima Plus from the TikTok favorite “snow elf” or LL coverage for his last project SKYLINE UNLIMITED – an EP decorated with futuristic and genre-blurring bangers from one of LA’s best kept secrets. On SKYLINE UNLIMITED there exists a bop known as “SURFIN”, an atmospheric and hypnotic R&B-meets-hip-hop-meets-DnB anthem featuring two of underground music’s most cherished darlings. Enter Kojima Plus and ZAY: together they unite to amplify each other’s undeniable artistic spirit and charisma on what is possibly the best song of 2022. This month fans are treated to “SURFIN”‘s long-awaited visual, a hazy and melancholic masterpiece filled with 203 seconds of raw and film grain sunset vibes. Directed by SEBCUBILLE – shots of the beach and airplanes flying overhead are juxtaposed against shots of Kojima and special guest ZAY simply doing their thing. If the visual leaves you ravenous to see this song performed live – you’re not alone, but you’re also too late. The duo recently performed this track together at LA’s Jojank & …

Mama’s House – [My Favorite Color]

My Favorite Color has been crafting some of the most imaginative releases that I have ever witnessed throughout the past few years and considering they’re always over the top and executed so incredibly well, I am past questioning if he will ever run out of ideas because that’s just impossible at this point. Whether it’s his diverse songs, mesmerizing music videos, or simply his compelling persona, MFC checks all the boxes for what it means to be an artist, and I really wish that other rising musicians would take note. His songs are always a spectacle in and of themselves, but his music videos are things that I can never pass up no matter how late to the party I may end up being. Today, I realized that I missed out on a music video for his ZAYALLCAPS and KEEM THE CIPHER-produced song “Mama’s House” that dropped just about a week ago, but I didn’t let my self-disappointment or self-reproach prevent me from enjoying every single second of this release that takes us through what I would imagine is the worst nightmare for anyone bringing their significant other to meet their parents. After knocking on the door and being greeted …

Mountain – [KWAMZAY]

It’s been a minute since we last heard from the dual coast duo KWAMZAY, but this month the two hip-hop prodigies make their long-awaited return with Mountain – their sophomore mixtape. Comprised of New Jersey-born rapper Kwame Adu and LA-via-Sacramento producer ZAYALLCAPS, Mountain is the latest offering from a duo caught in the wake of overnight success. Following the release of their debut project Motherland! earlier last year, Kwame and ZAY have seen viral TikTok success, stamps of approval from the platform’s most decorated curators, and even a spot opening for MAVI late last year. Despite the influx of attention and opportunity, Mountain sees the duo delivering their most focused offering yet – a five-track mixtape that bleeds undeniable charm and charisma from Kwame Adu and ZAY. If you missed Motherland! last year, worry not as Mountain is the perfect place to start becoming a fan of one of hip-hop’s most soulful upcoming acts. Fans of sample-laden and wordplay-heavy hip-hop like Earl Sweatshirt, Armand Hammer and Moor Mother are sure to gravitate towards KWAMZAY – as all acts are instilled with a deep spiritual reverence for the genre’s past, present, and future. While “Peanuts” and “Get Like You” showcase Kwame and ZAY …
