Gucci Mane of VA – [Young Crazy]

See why Young Crazy claims his title as the Gucci Mane of VA, with his brand new EP that was released just last week. One of my favorite parts about being a music writer is following the careers of those you’ve written about in the past, which is exactly the case with Virginia star Young Crazy. I first wrote about his single “Suburban Kid,” a fiery, catchy track that had both his streaming numbers, and his home state jumping. Recently, he was able to regain 100% of his mastered tracks, allowing him to bless his fanbase with a surprise “greatest hits” LP Who TF is Crazo Damn, which only generated a bigger buzz around his name prior to the release of this latest tape Gucci Mane of VA.  The tape starts with paying homage to Gucci through a beautiful beat by Moye & The Beatman, showcasing Young Crazy’s talent and providing a retro 2000s feel that represents Gucci’s style. “BLIT” and “Suburban Kid” are singles that are already hot in the DMV and add solidified status to the project, and “Bombaclat” is a brand new joint that looks to have the surrounding club scene in its grip. “On the Radar Freestyle” is …

Suburban Kid – [Young Crazy]

Another Virginia artist on the rise, the “Suburban Kid” Young Crazy had me locked in from the first couple of lines of this new track. “I’m a suburban kid, black track, suburban kid / Pull up swerving in it.” His distinct voice and delivery are something that I haven’t heard, and in combination with the flawless beat produced by Moye and Beatman, I was glued to the screen as I both heard the track and saw the visual for the first time. The track speaks on life experience; loss, glory, and tribulations that come with his rise to stardom. The subtly detailed and clever lyricism is fantastic and is only amplified by just how intriguing and different the sound by Young Crazy is. The visual is phenomenal, done by Jordan Dunman. The uptempo song calls for a fiery visual, and he delivered. Action shots of the rapper and his crew riding wheelies and swerving through the street, beautiful cut-out transitions, fantastic lighting effects, and unique camera shot styles and framing make for a cinema-like experience packed into only three minutes. I’m hyped that I was introduced to yet another Virginia star, and Young Crazy is definitely someone that will be …

On August 17, North Ave Jax released his 10-track debut project titled “LaZy, but i have goals ” via LVRN / Interscope Records / Field Trip Recordings. This project takes us on a journey about North Ave Jax and how he is on his way to becoming a big-time hero in the small town of Burlington, VT. Jax uses his music as a vessel for getting him through dark experiences and situations. From having a constant battle with his inner struggles of anxiety, substance abuse, and everything in between, this mixtape resonates with anyone who is going through a tough moment in life. “LaZy, But I Have Goals” represents the feeling of almost every kid growing up in this generation. The feeling of not wanting to do what is expected but instead doing what you please to be successful,” The 20-year-old shared. “Sometimes that leads us into showing people that we “don’t care” about what we’re told to do but that’s not true…and it might look like we’re lazy but I’m tryna be a global superstar. My priorities aren’t what they try to narrate on kids at a young age. I didn’t want a job, I wanted to rule the …

Paper Route–[NilexNile ft. Huey V]

Whenever I feel the need to get rid of ruminating thoughts of, “I don’t know what to do with my life,” out of my head, I turn to music. As cliché as it sounds, listening to music distracts me from this habit of overthinking and provides an escape from my mind. Despite studies that show listening to music is distracting, it’s never diminished my concentration to focus on the good. Reflecting on my recent conversation with NilexNile about his latest single “Paper Route” feat. Huey V, he reminds me of the importance of having patience and trust in yourself. At 25 years old, he’s found his craft (which is probably the most important quest in your life.) As an up-and-coming hip-hop artist, his dreams of being a positive change in music have come to fruition. Having just released “Paper Route” last Friday, the song made its way on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, one of the top radio stations in the city. “It’s been received really well, I got a lot of people hitting me up telling me they like the song… and a lot of people are starting to believe now that I’m actually becoming an artist that I always was meant to …

The Daniel Price Interview: Part 2

If you’re reading this, congratulations; You’ve made it to the second and final part of the Daniel Price Interview. On Tuesday, we left off chatting with Daniel about his upbringing and today, we dive back in to the conversation. Just a week ago, Daniel released his highly anticipated project called, “Peaking”, which has been met with nothing but positive reviews. A body of work this good though doesn’t just appear out of thin air, which is why for part two, we are going to uncover what makes Daniel the artist and musical mind that he is. The Daniel Price Interview Part two is now live, enjoy! — Sam: So tell me this…What do you make music for? In part one, we left off and you alluded to the importance of being able to share your perspective with others, but what do you truly make music for? Daniel: This recent music is more so storytelling, some of it is autobiographical, some of it features things that never happened, but it’s just a good story that I think people need to hear. Overall, just trying to implement what my mom implemented in me. Self belief…thinking for yourself and just not having any …

Southside Interview: Putting the Craft First & Watching Success Come After

“I learned one thing from Kanye that I will always think of going forward. He told me to always make sure I focus on the music, and the money will come afterward. If I put all of my focus on the music, the music will sound better and I won’t have to worry about the money later on because it’s gonna come from the great music I’ve been making.” -Southside As more time passes, people are beginning to realize just how much impact producers have and recognize the overall importance that they play in the overall creation of a song. One thing we have been seeing a lot over the past couple of years is producers getting listed as main artists on songs now, rather than their name being in the backend on the credits. Producers are letting their presence be known, and rightfully so, it’s about time. That being said, when speaking about the producer pioneers and the people who really helped shape and shift the culture, it’s very difficult to speak on that without mentioning 808 Mafia, and Southside. Being the founder of 808 Mafia alongside TM88, Southside is responsible for hundreds of songs that we all know …

Tfemi Joins Forces With Coi Leray On “Same Sh*t

Our goal at Lyrical Lemonade is to highlight artists who create music that we enjoy listening to. One of the best parts of my job is finding new music from artists that I’m unfamiliar with. Tfemi is a rising artist out of New Jersey, building a name for himself in the music industry.  In just a few years, he racked up hundreds of thousands of streams independently worldwide. The Nigerian artist also had the opportunity to have 3 headline shows in his hometown. A lot of his musical inspirations comes for Atlanta superstar Young Thug (#FreeThugger) and Xxxtentacion (RIP). As I began to review Tfemi music, I noticed his flow improves with each release. With each single he puts out, Tfemi shows how versatile his music can be. Two months ago, Tfemi had the chance to collaborate with his fellow New Jersey resident Coi Leray. Over the past few years. Coi’s sharp flow, slick delivery, and catchy hooks has led her to stardom and appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 with her RIAA Certified Platinum hit single “No More Parties”. The pair released their single titled  ‘Same Sh*t’ produced by Levanto. I must say they created a dope record.  “My …

Concert Review: Yeat at the Fonda

The year is 2019 – Baby Keem walks onstage in front of a packed audience in Los Angeles, California. This is one of his first performances ever, the last of six shows that comprised the highly-anticipated ‘Die For My Bitch Tour’. The air is nothing if not rarified – Drake is somewhere in the building, fans murmur about celebrity sightings like Taco and Cuco, and the excitement is so palpable that you can practically see the energy erupting from Keem’s earliest diehard fans. As you could expect, the show was an enormous success, and since then I have been actively trying to fill the Keem-shaped hole in my heart in an attempt to re-experience that kind of feeling again. Last Thursday, I was finally successful. On May 12 I had the pleasure of attending the final LA show of Yeat’s sold-out ‘2 Alivë’ tour at The Fonda Theater. After Yeat’s performance at the Roxy got shut down earlier this year, I knew that nothing on this fucking planet was going to prevent me from being at this event. Upon arrival, I took quick note of my surroundings: insane line (which is usually a good sign), appropriately priced merchandise for fans …

Behind The Track: C-Moski

We’re back again with the Lyrical Lemonade: Behind The Track feature. This week I decided to put the spotlight on C-Moski from Memphis, Tennessee. Moski always had an ear for music, however, he didn’t pursue his career as a producer until his thriving football career came to an end. Sometimes, it’s not what you know, but who you know. Thanks to Blac Youngsta and Ju his manager, Moski had the opportunity to become a part of Heavy Camp and produce three records on ‘Fu*k Everybody 2’ in 2018. Moski began to gain more recognition in 2021 after linking up with 1017 hottest artists on the rise, Pooh Shiesty. Moski is the face behind Pooh Shiesty’s smash Hit “Neighbors” featuring BIG30. This song received over 62 million views on Youtube and went on to become RIAA certified gold on May 27, 2021. The following year, “Neighbors” went platinum on January 18, 2022. I had the opportunity to learn more about C-Moski and his growth throughout the years. Check our interview out below. — Lyrical Lemonade: Where did you grow up? North Memphis, Douglass & Raleigh areas.  Lyrical Lemonade: Were you always involved with music growing up? Or was it something you …

Getting to Know YUME

Young artists have been on the rise for some time now. 15-year-old YUME is unlike anyone you have seen before. The multi-skilled artist is widely known as a producer for heavy hitters like Drake, NLE Choppa, and Young Thug. She is also the face behind Chris Brown’s hit record “Go Crazy” which spent multiple weeks at the top of Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop radio airplay chart. This year, YUME is reinventing herself not only as a producer but also as an artist. After receiving a co-sign from Hip-Hop legend Lil Kim and being commended as a mix blend between Travis Scott and Aaliyah for her dope sound and personality, YUME continues to strive for greatness. On April 29, the rising artist released her highly anticipated single ‘Do It Better’ with the visuals to match. In just three days, the song has received over 262k views on Youtube. “Anything she does, I can do it better. Put you on just like my Gucci sweater OK! See you dripping’, I can do it better. Put you on just like my Gucci sweater OK! Leave the light up, this sh*t fya. We living better, it’s okay.” Not only did she write and produce her own …
