For the indecisive and uncertain, let this list of must-see acts be your guiding light during the weekend’s festivities. Maxo Kream It’s been a minute since Maxo dropped his newest LP Weight of the World late last year – but having just dropped the long-awaited deluxe version, few artists on the lineup are as essential to see as this young rapper. Maybe Not – [Unusual Demont]

Though Valentine’s Day has come and gone, many of us are still perpetually ensnared in love’s mercurial throes. Not me, but like I’m sure some of the people reading this are – which is why it feels important to shed a light on Unusual Demont’s newest single “Maybe Not”. It’s been a minute since our king dropped HUES last September, and since then it seems like Mr. Demont has spent all that time honing his sound into something refreshingly unique. Providing listeners with a bittersweet blend of pop, hip-hop, and R&B – Unusual Demont flexes both his vocal and storytelling chops on a story wrought with romantic uncertainty and Batman references. The beat is fun and sounds like ambient Wii menu music which I have a clear weak-spot for – and Unusual Demont’s singing and rapping both sound stronger than they ever have before. “Maybe Not” marks the first release of the year from the young multi-hyphenate, so can fans expect a new project soon from Demont? It’s too early to tell, but I’m sure that when our king drops again I’ll be rushing another article into the LL drafts to ensure that my fellow Unusual Demont stans can stay in the …

Cotton Candy Sky – [Fence Badcliffe]

LA artist Fence Badcliffe makes his Lyrical Lemonade debut with an imaginatively playful new single titled “Cotton Candy Sky.” Fence not only plays bass for rising artist Unusual Demont, but happens to possess his own vocal talents. Identity wise his voice is difficult to draw any comparisons, which should make him a memorable name as his discography develops. Sonically “Cotton Candy Sky“ employs a groovy upbeat instrumental that you’d expect to hear from a talented band such as Argonaut & Wasp. The lyrics are fancifully optimistic to produce several feel-good vibes, and the record’s lighthearted qualities make it a suitable choice for various occasions. Fence Badcliffe is an artist I’ll be paying attention to not only because of his talents, but also his mysteriousness. With a unique artist name, a distinguished voice and a genre-bending single, it’s refreshingly difficult to predict what his next offering will sound like. Peep “Cotton Candy Sky” below!

My Favorite Projects of 2021

2021 has very much been an up and down year for most, but it’s undeniably been a phenomenal year for music. In fact, I enjoyed listening to so many releases that I’d forgotten some even released this year. Not only has there been plenty of stylistic/genre variety, but also artists of all types (small, emerging, mainstream) actively releasing their art. To showcase my appreciation, I decided to put together a list of my favorite projects; (in no particular order) all of which remain in my rotation heading into the new year. I hope you discover an album, EP or mixtape that you might have missed! Last but not least, this list is also a token of gratitude to each and every person that has read a Lyrical Lemonade piece of mine. I wish you a happy and fulfilling New Year. – – – – – Issa Gold: Tempus (album) Genres: Introspective hip-hop, Conscious rap Favorite track: Cold Summer   Amaria – Bittersweet (EP) Genres: R&B Favorite track: Lose Control   Richie Quake – Voyager (EP) Genres: R&B, Indie Favorite Track: Sensitive   Jean Deaux – Most Wanted (EP) Genres: Hip-Hop, Modern R&B, Electro-Trap Favorite track: Stay Down Marlon Craft – How We Intended (album) Genres: Hip-Hop, Jazz …

HUES.-[Unusual Demont]

Madison, Wisconsin native and LA based artist Unusual Demont returns to Lyrical Lemonade with his highly-anticipated HUES EP. The EP features his first and most iconic single “AMBER,” along with the other singles “PINE,” “PURPLE,” and “VANTA.” With an even eight songs total, truth be told there’s not a single mediocre track. Each song contains its own vivid ‘hue’ which provides a luminous listening experience. Sonically the vibes are plentiful, with a balanced variety of smooth and more dynamic tracks. Not to mention, it’s quite difficult to narrow down personal favorites, which tends to be the sign of a highly-accomplished and/or unblemished project. Demont unsurprisingly excels vocally; it’s the impeccable beat selection and original instrumentation that adds vibrancy to his sound along with the seamless transitions between each anthem. In the best way, there’s no clear standout since HUES. is unsparingly filled with quality from start to finish. However, “BLUSH” is unquestionably among Demont’s most proud creations since he also produced the song. Overall, HUES. is a fantastic offering filled with passion and creativity, and the EP itself is lustrous opener for Unusual Demont’s promising career. Have a listen below!

Vanta – [Unusual Demont]

“The Vanta music video was the first time I tried my hand at writing a music video. Nicole Blue took all my ideas, combined them with her own, and turned it into something amazing. We really wanted the video to match the electric energy of the song, so down to the angles of the shots you can really feel that. We also wanted to have a band element, so I got to bring in a bunch of homies (Kieran Watters, Ezra Waters, and Leon Zhang) to just wild out in a giant igloo dome and ride bikes. I’m really excited to share this video and I hope you can feel how fun it was to make” – Unusual Demont Madison, Wisconsin native and LA based artist Unusual Demont returns to Lyrical Lemonade with his most experimental offering yet titled “Vanta.” The band support creates a unique soft-rock jam with Demont’s familiarly smooth R&B vocals to once more expand the depths of his artistry. In a way, frequent spiraling shown throughout the video reflects the artist’s ‘Unusual’ way of doing things, which enables him to effortlessly distance himself from any form of musical conformity. Visually “Vanta” primarily has darker hues, but …

Purple – [Unusual Demont]

“Purple got it’s name due to me listening to ‘The Beautiful Ones’ by Prince a loooot during the time I made it. The producer – Elijah Cruz – was actually a friend of a friend and had no idea what kind of style I was into or looking for at the time so them sending *that* beat while I was on a Prince kick was damn near divine timing. The song itself is about being with someone and knowing they’re only sticking around to avoid hurting you. It’s a bittersweet experience cause even though it hurts, you still have them around. But in the same way, letting them go is just as bittersweet. I’m excited to put out Purple because it holds a lot of the more alternative elements I hope to present as an artist from this point forward” – Unusual Demont Madison, Wisconsin’s fan favorite Unusual Demont returns to Lyrical Lemonade with a fantastic lyric video for his most recent song “Purple.” With cited influence from the likes of D’angelo and the late legendary artist Prince, the track is a much slower sensual record compared to his previously released singles, “Amber” and ”Pine.” Admittedly, strict R&B records such …

Pine – [Unusual Demont]

“With pine I wanted to show a dichotomy between the lyrics and energy of the song again. Although the song itself is really bouncy and upbeat, it’s actually about the moral dilemma of a homewrecker coming into a dying relationship. As I wrote it I imagined a roller rink in the late 90s / early 2000s lit up with green lights on a Friday night. I chose the name Pine because green is the color of envy and that’s the exact hue I visualized at the roller rink” – Unusual Demont Unusual Demont’s long awaited single “Pine” is finally here! Specifically following his ‘stepping stone‘ debut “Amber,” the Madison, Wisconsin native’s new song delivers in every way imaginable. Netting a highly deserved Zane Lowe/Beats1 radio premiere, “Pine” provokes the pleasing smell of a brand new air freshener with a lingering after scent of a certain someone. As the artist alludes to in the quote above, the electrifying groovy bassline should not be confused with the gravity of his lyrics. Unable to shake the admired individual off his chest, and the ‘favorite times’ off his mind, the shadowy gray overcast clouds Demont’s judgement, which leads him to a compromised position. Contradicting …
