The 2022 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash Through My Eyes: Full Weekend Recap

Preface Yes, this article is super long and tedious, my bad…. Forewarning, if you’ve already read my other recaps for each individual day, skip to the end for a few words of admiration to the LL family, from me! Every year, the Summer Smash seems to get bigger, better, and more insane than ever before, and 2022 is definitely no exception. Unfortunately, I missed the first year or two because of one reason or another, so 2021 was actually my first time experiencing this event live and in person. At the same time, though, I had been to various other concerts hosted by LL dating all the way back to Lil Uzi Vert’s first-ever Chicago performance way back in April of 2016, so I know how we throw down at live events, and I also know just how loyal, supportive, and turnt up our fans get every chance they get. 2022 had some curveballs thrown at the team including a detrimental storm that almost paused the entire festival, but thanks to the consistently hard-working and ride-or-die group of individuals who put this fest together, the show went on without a hitch! I just want to clarify that this article is …

The Top 10 Greatest Running Backs of All-Time

It’s 11:21 PM in Chicago Illinois – June 15th, 2022     I am currently sitting at Space Stage Studios in Chicago alongside my brothers Cole Bennett and Salvatore Tarantino: what are we doing here, you might ask? We are on Day 2 of shooting a music video for an artist that will go unnamed at this time, and we have about an hour of time to waste in between shots. Out of nowhere – Cole and Sal walked up to me wide-eyed and giggly, so I was instantly suspicious.   “Elliot, we have a proposition for you” Cole proclaimed, as I sat in confusion. Sal looked at me dead in my face and said “We have an hour to waste, let’s make a top 10 running backs list.”   Logically, I started to think about how it would make no sense to make this list in the middle of a video shoot. I looked at them both, squinted my eyes, and said: “I’m In”     So this is a little bit different from our other lists because we aren’t in the comfort of our own office, but Sal just stole a small whiteboard from some poor man’s office …

We Outside – [Smokepurpp] ft. [Lil Mosey]

Although there might be some underground artists that provide more output than him, Smokepurpp seems to be carrying the biggest load out of any other mainstream artist I can think of. Even after releasing Florida Jit last year as well as a slew of music videos and other singles, Purpp isn’t even close to content with where he’s at, and this is obvious with the announcement of his upcoming EP PSYCHO (Legally Insane) that’s due out later this week. In order to hype up the project just a bit before its release, Purpp decided to team up with Lil Mosey to drop the one and only single off of the EP called “We Outside” as well as a music video to come along with it, and the results are just unbelievable, in my opinion. Starting out with the instrumental that was a team effort between jordanwtf, Mike Zara, and The Martianz, we are given a couple of interesting guitar melodies that are complemented perfectly with consistently chattering percussion and some incredibly bouncy drums that pave the way for a vibey hit. Purpp begins with the chorus, providing an unforgettably catchy portion that is sure to linger in your mind for …

Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2020

It’s obvious that 2020 didn’t turn out nearly how anyone expected at the top of the year. With a global pandemic shaking things up, a pivotal presidential election coming to a head, numerous generational talents passing away, and racial injustice protests taking place across the country, it’s safe to say that this year was beyond unpredictable from even the most seasoned psychics. Nonetheless, Chicago persevered like only we know-how, bringing attention to these issues while also divulging into a plethora of other, more personal narratives in the form of music. Throughout the year, some mainstays in the city continued to impress us here at Lyrical Lemonade while other up-and-comers made some very valid, attention-grabbing claims as to why they’re the next rising star that deserves a place at the table. Also worthy of note, Chicago had some truly excruciating losses this year in terms of music legends whose work still shined through as some of the most impressive of the year, primed to carry on their legacy for years to come. All of that said, we’re more than excited to round this farfetched year out with Lyrical Lemonade’s Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2020. This is our 5th year bringing …

Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2019

Turning the page into the next decade, our fourth edition of the “Top 50 Chicago Projects of the Year” list marks a special occasion. From the first list until now, four years means more than just four years of picks. It tracks four years of growth from some of our favorite artists, and a chance to watch last year’s entries rise up the ranks and improve, one year after the next. This year, we’re welcoming several Chicago mainstays as well as a plethora of new faces. The constant between every pick? A strong representation of the talent in Chicago, solidifying the city as a front runner in the trend-setting landscape of hip-hop. If there’s any city presenting some of music’s premier faces, both old and new, it’s Chicago, just as we aim to capture on this list. That said, below is Lyrical Lemonade’s top 50 Chicago projects of 2019. Thank you to all of the artists working so hard to provide us with music, and here’s to a promising decade to come for Chicago music. From 2019 ’til infinity.
