Poppa – [Calez]

You may have seen Calez on our Top 50 Chicago projects list back in 2016 with his Baby record, and late last night, he came through with his first tape of the present year titled Poppa. Coming in at 5 tracks, the stellar production came from the likes of Drake Connor, Thelonius Martin, Calev, Cartin Lang & Calez himself with the lone features coming from Mick Jenkins and Alex Wiley on Cool. I’ve been keeping tabs on the Chicago talent since that Baby album and immediately after pressing play on this one, the overall growth in the sound & style were both at the forefront right away. Let’s hope that Calez has more plans for releases like this one as the year carries on, but until then let loose the Poppa EP below!

Supa Bwe has been featured on our pages a lot recently with the release of new singles, visuals, and most importantly- his debut album Finally Dead; but this time around we are not celebrating the release of something new but rather the resurgence of the classics. Notorious for taking down tunes from Soundcloud without notice, much of the music that has built Supa’s cult fan has not been readily accessible in one package-until now that is. Freddy wanted to express gratitude for all the support which propelled his album to debut at #3 on the Itunes charts, meaning all the old songs are finally back! The many phases Supa has embodied in just the last 4 years of his musical career are reflected in this private 142 track playlist, which features 7 and a half hours of music, including about 23 never before heard songs. These rare tracks include remnants of what was supposed to be the Down Comes The Spaceman EP, a track called “CPDK(Film A Cop)” which hits close to home on the racist power structures in our country, 3 nostalgic Hurt Everybody songs produced by Thelonius Martin which remind us what a powerful force the trio was for Chicago, 2 …
