Come Alive – [Taylor Bennett] ft. [TheHxliday]

Over the past handful of years, few artists in Chicago have remained at the top of their game as Taylor Bennett has. While many people might’ve come for his music because they had to hear what Chance’s little brother sounded like, they stayed for years and years because it was clear that talent was a common theme in the Bennett family and Taylor was giving Chance a run for his money more often than not. Just before the weekend, Taylor dropped off an unexpected yet much-appreciated collaboration with Baltimore native TheHxliday called “Come Alive”, and while I never really thought of these two talents sharing a record together, they did an absolutely remarkable job. Although I was bumping the track all weekend, when I saw that they decided to team up with Goood Dylan to direct a music video in the city that Taylor and I both call home, I couldn’t resist sharing it with you all. Although Goood Dylan is a relatively new director and editor on my radar, I have realized that he uses lots of specific, unique animations that are somewhat similar to fellow videographer Lonewolf, yet Dylan puts his own spin on these intriguing edits. After …

With Dat – [TheHxliday] ft. [Polo G]

I’ve been a fan of TheHxliday for quite some time, at this point, yet as of late, I’ve found myself pretty much completely consumed with his discography. He has similar qualities to living legends such as Lil Uzi with overtones of emotion and pain that are more so along the lines of a Juice WRLD or XXXtentacion, and although this combination might come off as strange or out of the box, TheHxliday makes it work in some of the most remarkable ways I could’ve ever even imagined. Last week, I was beyond excited to write about his latest single “Wit Dat” not only because it was a great song, but also because it featured Polo G, one of my favorite Chicago artists out right now. While I don’t think anyone saw this collaboration coming and I was even more intrigued to see what it would sound like, they both killed their parts and brought an insane record to life. Just when I thought the fun was over, the dynamic duo teamed up once again to bring an awesome music video to life directed by Kevin Mares and Dogfood Media. Right off the bat, TheHxliday and his girl are hanging out …

Wit Dat – [TheHxliday] ft. [Polo G]

When it comes to artists making major moves so far this year, TheHxliday has got to be towards the top of the list if not in the #1 spot. He released his EP Batbxy, dropped numerous singles, and has provided some videos as well, so my only question is, when does he find the time to sleep? As far as Polo G goes, everyone knows that he’s one of the strongest contenders in the game, recently dropping his song “RAPSTAR” which earned him his first-ever Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper, and for good reason. Although this might seem like an unlikely duo considering they’re from such different parts of the map and make very unique styles of music, when I found out that they teamed up on TheHxliday’s latest single “Wit Dat”, I stopped whatever I was doing and immediately tuned in. When it comes to the incredibly eerie beat brought to life by ilykimchi, they utilize a mixture of pan flutes with tiptoeing piano keys that are met with some classic, crisp trap percussion for a foundation that is honestly probably more so Polo’s speed than TheHxliday’s, but he does a remarkable job adapting, nonetheless. As he sings the hook, …

Opps – [TheHxliday]

If you’re even somewhat familiar with Lyrical Lemonade, you’ve definitely heard of TheHxliday. Beyond that, if you’ve heard of him and listened to his music, then it’s pretty much assumed that you’re a fan because he’s one of the most intriguing and entertaining young acts in the entire country. Whether he’s singing melodic verses full of heartbreak and pain or rapping his heart out, his skills are apparent, and considering he’s only 19 years old, it’s even more exciting to see what he’s going to do as he gets older, more experienced, and truly masters his craft more than anyone could have imagined. While certain artists need some sort of reason to drop content whether it’s to promote an upcoming project or continue the legacy of a previous release, TheHxliday just likes to please fans in any way he can, whenever he can. This is one of my favorite things about the young talent, and he decided to drop off a random song entitled “Opps” along with a wonderful music video to accompany it. Damian Vinh Hien produced this hit with some deep 808s, chattering percussion, and a subdued melody, but the Baltimore hitmaker steals the show with his energetic …

Batgirl – [TheHxliday]

TheHxliday is one of the budding new stars in the music industry, but that’s no secret, he has been rising rapidly for a couple of years now, and recently he dropped a new music video for “Batgirl”. This song was off of TheHxliday’s latest project called project Batbxy, a six-track project that displayed a ton of great music from the DMV native, and this song was a fan favorite, so it’s only right that it received the proper visual that it deserved. TheHxliday has never put out any content that’s anything less than sensational, this is music video was no exception, take some time out of your Tuesday to watch this new music video below! Produced by Flex Lennon

Batbxy – [TheHxliday]

Obviously, TheHxliday isn’t anywhere close to a new name here at Lyrical Lemonade, but even with the fact that he’s released hundreds of songs since he first began his career, he never fails to continuously outdo himself. The 19-year-old Baltimore artist has one of the most distinctive sounds in the entire Hip-Hop landscape, and his ability to consistently change his style and shake things up is as noteworthy as it is masterful. In order to bring an end to a brutal 2020 and ring in the new year, TheHxliday decided to drop off a brand-new EP entitled Batbxy, continuing his legacy while also proving just how consistently brilliant he can be even with his already impressive arsenal of hits. Throughout these 6 songs and the almost 17 minutes they last, he provides an enormous amount of variability and dexterity, not only in the intriguing percussion but in the multitude of melodies and harmonies he brings to the table. One of my favorite parts about this EP is the layers he brings to the table on pretty much every song. One layer might be deeper with more stretched-out hums, another might provide a quicker, more pliable cadence while a third provides …

Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2020

It’s obvious that 2020 didn’t turn out nearly how anyone expected at the top of the year. With a global pandemic shaking things up, a pivotal presidential election coming to a head, numerous generational talents passing away, and racial injustice protests taking place across the country, it’s safe to say that this year was beyond unpredictable from even the most seasoned psychics. Nonetheless, Chicago persevered like only we know-how, bringing attention to these issues while also divulging into a plethora of other, more personal narratives in the form of music. Throughout the year, some mainstays in the city continued to impress us here at Lyrical Lemonade while other up-and-comers made some very valid, attention-grabbing claims as to why they’re the next rising star that deserves a place at the table. Also worthy of note, Chicago had some truly excruciating losses this year in terms of music legends whose work still shined through as some of the most impressive of the year, primed to carry on their legacy for years to come. All of that said, we’re more than excited to round this farfetched year out with Lyrical Lemonade’s Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2020. This is our 5th year bringing …

FAMILY – [DJ Scheme]

If you’re a fan of Lyrical Lemonade then there’s no doubt that you are familiar with the living legend that is DJ Scheme. The DJ turned Producer has taken his talents up a serious level with the release of his highly anticipated debut album FAMILY. There is a reason why artists flock to Scheme, he is one of the most genuine souls in the music industry and the album’s stacked tracklist proves exactly the type of reach he has built purely off his talent and grind. If you’ve ever seen a live set from DJ Scheme, you’ll know the ferocious energy he brings to each and every stage he touches. The crowds almost instantly dissolve into insanity, mosh pits opening throughout crowded venues with audiences thirsty to lose themselves to the madness that is “Take A Step Back”. Damn, I can’t wait to see that again soon. Off the strength of 2019’s Preseason EP, we saw what Scheme was capable of as a producer. With a small sample, we knew that the debut album he would eventually release would be a perfectly curated collection of collaborators that reflect the relationships he has built throughout his career of touring with some of the biggest …

TheHxliday: The Lemonade Stand Interview

Over the past year or two, it’s been an honor for me to watch TheHxliday grow into the artist that he is today. Just about eighteen months ago he was a little-known artist from Maryland who was gaining some traction via his Soundcloud releases, and now he is one of the hottest new artists in the music world. In this interview, I spoke to TheHxliday about several topics including the impact his mother had on him, growing up in Perry Hall, working on the Internet Money album, why he decided to sign to Motown Records, artists he wants to work with in the future and much more! Take some time out of your Friday to watch this brand new interview below!

We Ain’t the Same – [TyFontaine]

When TyFontaine announced the arrival of his album We Ain’t the Same a few weeks ago, I was absolutely sleepless for many nights anticipating the greatness that he was going to deliver. I knew it was going to be a magnificent effort, but every single time I know he’s dropping, I have no idea what kind of sounds or styles to expect because of how versatile he is, so I get beyond excited to hear what he has in store for fans. I also knew that I was going to need to take the weekend to listen to it in order to run through it multiple times and not miss out on any of its artistry, so that leads us to now. As far as writing about the brand-new album, I could truly go on for days and probably write an entire novel, so I just want to cover some of my personal favorites and highlights, but I’ll let you tune in for the rest of the offerings as well to see its incredibility for yourself. It opens up on the highest notes, unsurprisingly, with “Activities”, which boasts some intense, powerful, electronic-sounding synths that are only elevated by piercing percussion …
