The Autobiography – [Vic Mensa]

Wow, this is truly a beautiful moment in music right now, as Chicago’s own Vic Mensa just blessed the world with his highly anticipated album The Autobiography. If you are anything like me, you have been impatiently waiting this moment ever since he dropped Innanetape back in September of 2013, and you are feeling nothing but pure joy as you first dive into this one. The intro to this tape is beautiful to say the least, Vic jumped on the most ear pleasing & soulful beat that I have heard in recent memory and reflected on his life. The momentum carried all the way throughout the project, each song seemingly being better than the last.  This album is a total of fifteen tracks in length, and contains some fantastic features from Weezer, Syd, The-Dream, Pharrell, Saul Williams, Ty Dolla $ign, Pusha T, The O’Mys, Chief Keef & Joey Purp! One track that really stuck out to me was “Heaven On Earth”, because Vic told the story behind his friend that was tragically murdered in Chicago a few years ago, but the main thing that grabbed my attention was how he spit a verse from his perspective, Cam’s perspective, then finally the gunman’s point of view. If …

Workin’ On Myself – [Golden]

Whether it’s touring overseas, performing with Chance & Donnie at TipFest (in quite possibly the freshest pair of Bucketfeet ever), or headlining the Metro with The O’Mys, Mike Golden has been staying very busy as of late.  He continued that trend yesterday, giving us his third track in roughly two months, titled “Workin’ On Myself.”  This is without a doubt a feel-good tune, sure to leave you singing it randomly throughout the day.  Listen to ‘Workin’ On Myself” below, and check out Golden at the Taste Of Chicago, July 10th on the Bud Light stage. Earlier this week, Chicago producer Odd Couple gave us an amazing record titled “Me Time,” featuring a stellar verse from Kweku Collins, & solid contributions from The O’Mys and Jack Redd.  Be on the lookout for Odd Couples project, “Chatterbox” which is set to drop June 30th, but for now tell your ex to kick rocks & listen to this soulful jam below.

Surf – [Donnie Trumpet] & [The Social Experiment]

First off, shout out to the police officer that caught Chance smoking weed a couple blocks away from his high school a few years back, you the real MVP. Because your the reason for the 10-day suspension Chance received, which lead to his debut tape “10 Day,” which lead to well received project “Acid Rap,” which has now lead us all to today, the moment Chance The Rapper fans have been dying for. (story behind 10 day) FINALLY! After countless months wishing this day would come its officially upon us as Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment have released their highly anticipated mixtape “Surf.” Before diving right into the music, lets take a brief look into the past together. “We gon’ get this paper, put that on my mama. You gon’ see us later, put that on my mama.” – “Hey Ma” (Visuals) Bold statement by a young Chancellor Bennett back in 2012, almost as if he knew where he was going all along. Lets face it, the teenage kid passing out his CDs on State Street in front of Jones College Prep is long gone ever since his 2013 project Acid Rap, which dropped just over two years ago. Today? Chance …
