The 2021 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash Recap

It’s been just over a month since we wrapped up our Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival, and a couple of days ago, we released the official recap for the fest. There was plenty of memorable moments from the fest, if you weren’t lucky enough to attend, catch up with the action by pressing play below!

GOAL – [Komla]

Chicago native Komla is fresh off of a performance at the Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash Festival that took place just a few weeks ago, and today he is back with his first release in a minute called “GOAL”. When it comes to music in this day and age, having a distinct voice and sound is arguably the most important thing that you can have, and it’s something that I believe Komla does very well. Once you hear his music playing, you can instantly tell that it’s him with his unique raspy vocals and aggressive lyrics. I am excited to see what Komla does for the rest of 2021, but for now, press play below!

The Top 10 Moments From Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash Festival

Creative Direction: @shotbycones We are a couple of weeks removed from our annual Summer Smash festival, and we are all still having major withdrawals from such a great weekend. After the past year that we had of quarantining, social distancing, and avoiding large events, it felt amazing to be able to come outside and enjoy our festival once again. With over 75 artists on our lineup ranging from the up-and-coming rappers to superstars and legends, it was truly a weekend to remember, and a special moment for not only Lyrical Lemonade but Chicago as a whole. I had the opportunity to work as a lead for the Summer Smash Media Team—a squad full of some of the best photographers and videographers in the game put together by our guy Cones. All weekend long, they captured tons of videos, photos, and clips of the entire run of show. While our full recap of the entire Summer Smash weekend is dropping very soon, I felt it would be a great idea to give my perspective on some of the best moments that happened during Summer Smash. At last, here are some of the best moments of Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash 2021!   …

bastard – [glaive]

As we get closer and closer to the release of glaive’s upcoming project All Dogs Go to Heaven, I couldn’t be more excited. His debut project Cyprus Grove is still a project that I revisit on a weekly basis, and I truly don’t believe glaive has ever put out a miss, so I don’t see that streak coming to an end anytime soon. Obviously, glaive has become a good friend of the Lyrical Lemonade family over the past couple of months, and he’s an artist that I think has unlimited potential. Considering he’s still so young and already making some of the best music in the industry, there’s no telling where he’s going to go next, but his upcoming project is definitely going to be one for the ages, without a doubt in my mind. As he continues to hype up this project, I couldn’t be more excited for some of the singles he has put out, most recently blessing us with his latest release entitled “bastard”. Produced by a slew of friends including delto, Lunamatic, and Whethan, things begin very tranquilly with a nice, touching guitar progression that is quickly met with a beat drop that brings things out …

Don Toliver + Saba added to The Summer Smash lineup!

Back at the start of May, we announced our third annual Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival lineup, the all hip-hop festival that takes place right here in Chicago. At the time of the announcement, we received a ton of positive feedback regarding the lineup, but we knew that the updated lineup was going to make it that much better. Today we are extremely proud to announce that we have updated our lineup with artists, Don Toliver and Saba! Obviously, Don Toliver has played a big part in Lyrical Lemonade this year with the music videos we have directed for “His & Hers” as well as “Lemonade”. He is one of the brightest young stars in the entire music world, he was widely requested by our fanbase, and we also felt like he was the missing piece to the festival and are very excited to add him to our lineup! Chicago native Saba is without a doubt one of the best rappers that the city has to offer, we here at Lyrical Lemonade have been massive fans of him since he released Comfort Zone back in 2014, and he has grown tremendously since then. Here at the office, Saba was considered …

Dro Kenji Interview: The Golden Child of Internet Money

“A lot of the things that I speak about in my music are the same things that a lot of other people go through too. That’s the whole point of my music really is to make people feel, and not feel bad. I don’t want people to feel negative all the time even if it’s from a negative event.” -Dro Kenji As the music industry grows more and more each day, and more music gets uploaded to your favorite streaming platforms, it does feel like today’s artists are getting younger and younger. While it may feel a bit congested at times and a little overwhelming to be receiving so much new music and have to keep up with so many artists, it’s a beautiful thing to see so many kids and young adults find a love and passion for music so early on in their life and get to live out their dreams just the way they imagined it. Dro Kenji is a 19-year-old superstar in the making, and he caught his first big break into the industry last year. Kenji’s expressive melodies and bars full of emotion laded him an opportunity to link up with Internet Money–the super-producer group …

Tell Em – [Cochise] x [$NOT]

A few days ago my close friend and co-worker Cole Bennett brought an artist to Chicago by the name of Cochise, it was my first time meeting Cochise, and we quickly hit it off because he has such an infectious and friendly personality. Cochise is also an unbelievably talented artist, so this past Wednesday, we took the trip to Sandwich, Illinois (yes that’s a real place), and Cole directed a brand new music video for Cochise’s song “Tell Em” featuring $NOT! The music video shoot started early in the morning and didn’t wrap up until almost five in the morning on Thursday, and after a few hours of sleep, Cole decided that he wanted to edit + turn around this music video in ONE DAY. Now, at 1PM on Friday, we have just been blessed with the final product. This was honestly one of the most fun visual projects that I can recall in a minute, Cochise and $NOT are amazing people and this whole process was just memorable. The fact that Cole invited these two artists to stay at his house for the few days they were in Chicago, and he actually edited the video with $NOT and Cochise …

Dior! – [ka$hdami]

Just over a week ago, we announced the lineup for our Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival, there were plenty of talented musicians on the lineup, but one of the rising acts included on there that we at LL are excited about is ka$hdami! Today, ka$hdami is making his debut on our website with the premiere of his brand new music video for “Dior”. ka$hdami is an artist who is originally from Las Vegas but now stays in the DMV, and he has a sound that I believe is easily digestible and really hard to not enjoy. This is extremely exciting considering that he is still only sixteen years old, he has plenty of time to continue to craft + refine his sound, but honestly, I give it a couple of years before he really blows up. This is an artist that I suggest our audience keeps a close eye on, before you know it, he will be one of the biggest artists in his lane. Listen to this brand new tune via YouTube below, and be sure to give him a follow on Twitter here! Produced by fwthis1will

Groceries – [Pi’erre Bourne]

Every now and then, we get to fitness a full-circle moment in the rap game. One of those moments where we get to see where an artist came from and see where they are now, and how much they’ve grown since then. We always hear the “started from the bottom” rap stories, but we never really get to hear the stories about artists doing regular things like working a 9-to-5 job. In the case of Pi’erre Bourne, before he would gain the success that he has now, he would spend his days working at his local Target. Pi’erre has come a very long way since then, and he is back today recreating those days at the grocery store with his new visuals for his single, “Groceries”. Coming fresh off of the success of “4U”, Pi’erre Bourne wasted no time at all delivering a second single from his highly-anticipated album The Life of Pi’erre 5. In “Groceries”, Pi’erre is walking around a grocery store with an apron on and flexing his wealth and jewelry that he’s gained since the old days of working on the clock. Mixed in with scenes of him standing on top of check-out lanes, the second verse is …
