SiLENCE – [The China Blue]

Just a couple of months ago, I was put onto The China Blue by one of my homies, and my introduction to him was his song “Nervous”. This track was very revealing and just out of the ordinary in all the best ways possible, so needless to say, I was spinning the record pretty much every day for quite some time. With all of the positive reception it had right off the bat, you’d think TCB would be on cloud 9, but that’s not always how it works. In a quote, he describes his mental state following the single’s release, stating: “Around a month after my last single ‘Nervous’ was completed and released, I was in a weird spot mentally. I was very humbled by its reception from my regular listeners and the new ones I gained, but on a personal level realized how much my life contrasted from any appearance of comfort and ease I had in that time period of my life.” Music isn’t always as easy and fluid as it might seem to outsiders, and TCB’s latest record “SiLENCE” shows this perfectly. Opening with a somewhat soft, gentle guitar progression that is joined by some resounding hits …

Nervous – [The China Blue]

While some up-and-coming artists seem to be overnight successes that almost seem to be set up for victories before they’ve even taken a deep breath. Of the music industry, others have to grind day in and day out to be able to make a name for themselves. Although some rises to fame take longer than others, it’s clear that when someone has such a special talent, the world will eventually catch on and everyone will hear it. For rising star The China Blue, he just released his debut EP Written in my Head, From my Bedroom in January of 2020, so the bulk of his transformation as an artist over the last year took place in solitude during the pandemic, yet this seemed to truly help him hone in on his sound more than ever. As he ramps up the momentum to drop his second EP at some point this spring, he recently decided to drop off the project’s lead single “Nervous”, and while I had no clue what I should’ve anticipated, he blew any sort of expectations out of the water from the moment he began singing. Reading the press release, it even says that he wrote and self-produced …

Slow Roll- [Boldy James] x [The Alchemist]

There’s no denying the extremely evident talent of Detroit veteran Boldy James. I myself am not as familiar with him as I probably should be, but I am aware of his skill and the reason why he has managed to stick around for so long in the Rap scene. The Alchemist is really the one who drew me into their collaborative project The Price of Tea in China because I’ve always been a fan of the uncharacteristic instrumentals he brings to life for some of my favorite rappers. Usually, these beats sound obscure and weird in the best way possible, because it truly gives a challenge to the artist he’s working with, always leading to an impressive and notable result. After they dropped their collaborative effort earlier this year, the duo is back with a brand-new music video for their track “Slow Roll”. Alchemist brings this beat to life starting with some intergalactic, bubbly synths, some old school reminiscent drums, and some effective yet minimalistic percussion, among other strange but appealing instruments. Boldy’s voice is unaltered and sounds so pure and naturally assertive, which isn’t very common in the current climate of Rap music, so it truly does show that he’s …
