Fall Apart – [Nicholas Mick] ft. [Prentiss]

No matter what style of music you’re into or what sort of genre you may gravitate towards, I just love music because every song comes with a story. Whether someone is making a party anthem, a love ballad, or an ode to their upbringing, every artist has a story that has led them to that point in time, and I love trying to get to the bottom of that history in order to gain an even firmer grasp on their sound. Nicholas Mick is a talent who is new to my radar, but when the homie sent me a song and told me he felt like he was on cloud 9 when listening, it was simply a description that I couldn’t ignore, and I’m glad I didn’t. As far as his story is concerned, at least according to his Spotify bio, he was born into a musically inclined family in Maryland before moving to Virginia and then to South Carolina. With a plethora of musical inspirations, Nicholas began making music in the middle of 2019 after falling into depression due to another move. Considering he is still only 17 with this much experience under his belt, it’s eye-opening when I …

i will wait – [Prentiss]

My brother has always been someone who is on the cutting edge of the hottest, most promising young artists, so I honestly have him to thank for so many of the people I listen to today. When he would tell me about some early teenage rapper that is getting major attention and deserves a listen, I used to find it a bit strange and I would typically dismiss his suggestions on that front, but I have realized that closed me off to so many incredible innovators in the world of hip-hop and rap music. Since opening my mind for the last year or so, I found out about Prentiss, a 14-year-old Jackson, Mississippi native who has been taking the music world by storm, and I understand exactly why when listening to any of his records. After tuning in, it makes sense why he signed to Cinematic Music Group and has gotten nods from superstars like Justin Bieber and Meghan Trainer, as well as the fact that he’s being embraced in all different types of subgenres of music. Simply put, he’s such a talented artist no matter his age, and his latest song “i will wait” is yet another reason why …

too fast – [Prentiss] ft. [Matt Ox]

It has probably been right around a month since Mississippi artist Prentiss came across my radar, and he has been making some major moves ever since. At just 14 years old, it can be hard to imagine an artist with as much promise and talent as him, but he continues to turn heads, linking up with everyone from the underground music scene to getting nods from icons like Justin Bieber. When I heard he was in the studio with Matt Ox, it only made sense considering Matt was probably around the same age when he started to blow up, and even though their musical styles vary, I knew they’d make some magic together. The outcome was their song “too fast”, an absolutely remarkable record that is something you need to tune into immediately, so you don’t miss out. Accompanied by an Always Aden-directed music video, this record was produced by Cxdy from Internet Money and Rod Made It who utilize some strong electronic synths that are eventually met with piercing percussion and thumping 808s when the beat drops, giving us a very energetic foundation that the two artists can build wonderfully off of. When Prentiss gets right into the hook, …

Thrill of It – [Prentiss]

Every day, I come across new artists, and in recent history, it seems like each one is more unique and unconventional than the last. While I don’t really have a favorite genre considering I can find myself listening to anything from R&B to rap to hard rock to soul and everything in between, I have truly been taking a liking to the new aged pop-punk sound that has taken over the hip-hop landscape. That’s why, when I came across Prentiss, I wasn’t necessarily shocked at the genre of music he was creating, but I was more so shocked at the artist himself. Remarkably, he is actually only 14 years old and doesn’t necessarily have the look of a typical musician, but that’s what I truly love about this kid. He pretty much knew he had a talent, saw what it took to get in the public eye, and said screw any of the haters who are going to try and bring me down. After beginning his music career, he has turned tons of heads and had made a very notable name for himself in music, and at such a young age, that’s not easy to do, so I can’t help …
