Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2021

Every year, artists hailing from Chicago prove exactly why this is a city that belongs in the upper echelon of music, and this fact grows more abundantly obvious with every release that is put out. Whether a musician is world renown or locally recognized, there is never a shortage of creativity, effort, or innovation, and whether the rest of the country notices this or not, local fans are well aware of the goldmine that we are sitting on here in the Midwest.  Our goal here at Lyrical Lemonade has always been to shine a light on the remarkable sounds coming out of the city every single year, and even when we go in with certain expectations or presumptions, our minds are absolutely blown once we realize just how much dexterous and unique music was brought to life in the span of 12 short months. One thing that is inimitable within the local scene here is simply the sense of community because whether these talents are teaming up with one another or on entirely different levels of fame, everyone seems to show love to each other, ensuring their awareness of the eye-opening and head-turning styles that are being generated across the …

Life Goes On – [Oliver Tree] ft. [Trippie Redd] x [Ski Mask]

Oliver Tree is one of the most unique artists in the entire world, there is no one that makes music like him and I would argue that he has had some of the most creative music videos over the last few years. A few days back, Oliver Tree teamed up with Cole Bennett to shoot his music video for “Life Goes On” featuring Trippie Redd and Ski Mask The Slump God. This visual is already almost at three million views in just a few days, it’s a fun/comical video just as most of Oliver’s are, and I’d argue that this is one of the more addicting LL-directed songs in a long time. This is one of those records that you only need to listen to once before you are humming the melody or the hook for the remainder of the day. Take a few minutes out of your day to check out the latest LL music video below!

Vampire – [Payday] ft. [Danny Brown]

Payday is one of the first up-and-coming artists I found out about when I first started writing for Lyrical Lemonade over two years ago, and she never fails to impress me. While her first few mixtapes and EPs were somewhat elementary and full of endearing, teenage-inspired subject matter, she has come such a long way in her still-growing career, and even though some of these sounds are still incorporated, it’s obvious that she is no longer the kid she once was even just a year or two ago. Now, her bars are even more precise, and her singing has proved her versatility, making her a multifaceted talent that has so much to bring to the table. Not too long ago, she released her latest project Rap in a Can, a 7 song, almost 14-minute-long tape that further proved her skills and ability to thrive in this ruthless industry, and that’s not something anyone should take lightly. Out of these tracks, she only included one feature in Danny Brown which was unexpected, yet very impressive on their song “Vampire”, so once I found out that she was releasing a music video for this hit, I couldn’t wait to write about it. …

Asshole – [Lil Yachty] ft. [Oliver Tree]

If you’re somehow not familiar with the name Oliver Tree, you’re still most likely familiar with the bowl cut-having, JNCO Jeans-wearing, scooter-riding musician from his tirades on social media and all other lanes of the internet. While he might be one of the most intriguing and entertaining people in the world, his music is also beyond creative and masterful. I feel like the number of people who can fit seamlessly into his world could be counted on one hand, and Lil Yachty is undeniably one of these artists. It just makes sense that Yachty and Oliver would team up on Lil Boat’s song “Asshole”, a cut off of Lil Boat 3.5 which was the deluxe version of the Atlanta icon’s third edition in the Lil Boat trilogy. Oliver lives one of the most mysteriously interesting lives, and Yachty seems to live a life just as extravagant as it is an imagined world of his own, so the duo just made sense. That’s why, when they decided to drop a music video for this hit that was also written and directed by the wild mind of Oliver Tree, I was immediately sold from the moment I pressed play. The scene is …

Spicy – [Nas] ft. [Fivio Foreign] & [A$AP Ferg]

There are certain names in the Rap scene that have reached legendary status and they’re cited as influences for almost any artist you can name. Nas is one of these emcees, and although it’s not a shock to anyone that I’m saying this, he is one of the greats. Even after the new age of Rappers came through and changed the scenery, Nas remains one of the best to ever make music, and instead of hating on the new generation of music, he rather likes to include them in his career while also getting them out of their comfort zones and pushing their limits to the edge. His collaborative album with the legendary hitmaker Hit-Boy King’s Disease was a success, including some of the biggest names in music such as Charlie Wilson, Big Sean, Lil Durk, Don Toliver, Anderson .Paak, and more, and seeing him come together with artists like this shows off his dexterity just as much as them, if not more. Luckily, just a few days ago we received a visual for the project’s closing song “Spicy” featuring Fivio Foreign and A$AP Ferg, and the results are as good as the song itself. As for this track, Hit-Boy …

A Conversation w/ Kaash Paige: Debut Album ‘Teenage Fever’, Musical Influences, Crafting a Signature Sound & More

“I just got to be myself at all times and always speak about how I’m feeling regardless of how it may come off. You have to be vulnerable in your music at all times.” -Kaash Paige If there’s one thing thats for sure, is that the women are on the rise right now in the music industry. Competing in a world that has been predominately ran by males is something that many have struggled with for a long time. That is, up until this year. In 2020 alone, we have seen many more female rappers and singers emerging and gaining enough momentum to make it onto peoples radars. One of the biggest stars to blossom this year, would undeniably be the Texas-native Kaash Paige. With the success of her ever-so-popular “Love Songs” record blowing up with over 15 million TikTok clips, as well as over 725 million streams, Kaash Paige was destined for success right from the jump. The “Kaash” in her name standing for “Kill All Arrogance–Stop Hatred”, she is one of the youngest R&B stars in the game now that is no stranger to showing the world just how creative she is and can be. Collaborating earlier this …
