The One – [OG Stevo]

Chicago emcee OG Stevo is one of my personal favorite artists coming out of the city right now, he’s very talented (other than his cookie selection), and today he is back on our site with the release of his new music video for “The One”. I’ve been a fan of all of Stevo’s music, but this record here stood out to me in particular because he displayed a few different catchy flows back to back to back. OG Stevo has a window of opportunity wide open for him right now, I am eager to see how he + his team take advantage of what’s in front of him. Watch this new music video below!

The Top 5 Greatest Cookies of All Time

It’s 9:40 PM in Chicago Illinois – May 6th, 2022   I am in the living room of the Lyrical Lemonade office with Ausar, OG Stevo, Chris Patrick, and Justin Alvarez. I just got back from two weeks of touring with femdot on the ‘Back Home’ tour, and one question that arose in the green room multiple times was: What’s the best cookie of all time? We had plenty of passionate and spirited debates about this on the road: Frsh Waters loves butter cookies, femdot is a fan of snickerdoodle, and Amindi is a fan of the frosted animal crackers. After many days of thinking about this in my head, I bought this question up to Ausar, OG Stevo, and Chris Patrick. So here we are – now 9:50 on a Friday night at the Lyrical Lemonade office, ranking our top 5 cookies. _____   First things first – Chris Patrick is the WILDCARD of this debate. For starters, he started his list from 5 to 1, which I think we can all agree is weird. He was extremely passionate about these things called Vienna cookies, must be a New Jersey thing because none of us from the midwest has …

Stop Signs – [OG Stevo]

Being from Chicago, I know just how many local icons there are, and I take pride in trying to tap in with their music whenever I get the chance. This city has always had this magical buzz behind it, and I still don’t know if it’s in the air or the people that we are lucky enough to be around on a daily basis here, but regardless, the talent pool here is pretty much unmatched even if the rest of the country isn’t ready to accept that. Well, one emcee who has had the city’s heart for years is OG Stevo, and whether you’re from here or not, it’s probably a name you’ve come across a handful of times if you dive a bit deeper than the mainstream superstars that are household names at this point. Although Stevo might not be as well-known as some of these world-renown artists, he has been receiving some much-deserved recognition from major outlets, attracting attention from us here at Lyrical Lemonade, The Chicago Reader, Revolt TV, while also being played on city-wide radio staples like Power 92. I think this says so much more about his abilities, because not every independent artist gets this …

Same Day – [OG Stevo]

I know I talk extensively about just how underrated and amazing the music scene is here in Chicago, but it’s just something that is constantly on my mind, and if no one else is going to praise it the way it should be, I’m going to shout it from the rooftops until I’m blue in the face if it means that one more listener is put on to the blossoming sounds here. Considering Our Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2021 just came out a few weeks ago, it’s still fresh on my mind, and it’s something that I find myself constantly sharing with others in order to show them exactly how diverse the styles are here in the Windy City. Year after year, there are a variety of names who find themselves featured on the list, and rightfully so, but one of my absolute favorite local icons is OG Stevo. He’s definitely not a new name to regular Lyrical Lemonade consumers or fans of the local music in this city, but I can’t believe the amount of complexity and adaptability he portrays throughout his extensive and impressive discography, which is one of the many reasons why his project Days in …

OG Stevo: The Lemonade Stand Interview

OG Stevo is one of the best rising rappers that Chicago has to offer, and he is also a close friend of ours here at Lyrical Lemonade. I interviewed Stevo back in 2019, but about a month ago, I brought OG Stevo by the office for his second interview on The Lemonade Stand. I spoke to OG Stevo about many things such as the impact his parents had on him, attending Von Stuben High School, his Days In LA EP, Warren Park in Chicago, Kevin Durant, when he got caught stealing from Dominick’s as a kid, participating in our turkey drive, his experience performing at The Summer Smash, Chicago’s music community and more. This was a great conversation and interview, check it out for yourself below!

Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2021

Every year, artists hailing from Chicago prove exactly why this is a city that belongs in the upper echelon of music, and this fact grows more abundantly obvious with every release that is put out. Whether a musician is world renown or locally recognized, there is never a shortage of creativity, effort, or innovation, and whether the rest of the country notices this or not, local fans are well aware of the goldmine that we are sitting on here in the Midwest.  Our goal here at Lyrical Lemonade has always been to shine a light on the remarkable sounds coming out of the city every single year, and even when we go in with certain expectations or presumptions, our minds are absolutely blown once we realize just how much dexterous and unique music was brought to life in the span of 12 short months. One thing that is inimitable within the local scene here is simply the sense of community because whether these talents are teaming up with one another or on entirely different levels of fame, everyone seems to show love to each other, ensuring their awareness of the eye-opening and head-turning styles that are being generated across the …

Don Toliver + Saba added to The Summer Smash lineup!

Back at the start of May, we announced our third annual Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival lineup, the all hip-hop festival that takes place right here in Chicago. At the time of the announcement, we received a ton of positive feedback regarding the lineup, but we knew that the updated lineup was going to make it that much better. Today we are extremely proud to announce that we have updated our lineup with artists, Don Toliver and Saba! Obviously, Don Toliver has played a big part in Lyrical Lemonade this year with the music videos we have directed for “His & Hers” as well as “Lemonade”. He is one of the brightest young stars in the entire music world, he was widely requested by our fanbase, and we also felt like he was the missing piece to the festival and are very excited to add him to our lineup! Chicago native Saba is without a doubt one of the best rappers that the city has to offer, we here at Lyrical Lemonade have been massive fans of him since he released Comfort Zone back in 2014, and he has grown tremendously since then. Here at the office, Saba was considered …

One Take – [OG Stevo]

When it comes to Chicago, there is always a new talent rising through the ranks on a daily basis. For many artists, they might drop a song that goes crazy in the city and everyone here sings it for a few months, but that just might be the extent of it. When it comes to Rogers Park’s very own OG Stevo, though, he has been dropping off a slew of memorable hits for quite a few years, and even though he just started gaining the attention of a more widespread audience within the past year or two, he is making a case as to why he isn’t going to simply be one of those one-hit wonders that we talk about for one minute and then forget about the next. In order to back this up, Stevo is back with a brand-new song entitled “One Take” which is just another prime example as to why you need to put some respect on his name if you’re somehow not familiar quite yet. Opening up with a melody that is very familiar and sounds like a sample from another rap song that I’m mad at myself for not being able to remember off …

On Me – [DCG Brothers]

I hope the music community has been paying close attention to what’s been going on in Chicago because we are having a massive amount of talented artists popping up left and right. There are several young acts who I believe have the potential to be superstars such as Serena Isioma and OG Stevo, but two of the acts that I am most excited about are DCG Bsavv and DCG Shun. These two brothers might as well be twins because they are so close in age, but they are two of the most energetic + superior rappers to come out of the city in recent memory. Their music videos are always top tier while their music never seems to disappoint, they are a promising young duo who I believe will be superstars someday soon. We also have the DCG Brothers performing at our Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival in a few months here in Chicago, you can purchase tickets to that here.

Watch OG Stevo perform on ‘1Take’

OG Stevo is a native of northside Chicago and an artist who I have become a huge fan of ever since femdot put me onto him, and earlier today his new live performance of “Neighborhood Hero” dropping via 1Take. This is a new series that is brought to us by the good people over at Classick Studios, a legendary place in Chicago that’s responsible for helping put out plenty of amazing music throughout the years, and now they are helping shed more light on some of the city’s finest young talents through this avenue. 1Take has quickly become one of my new favorite pieces of content, they have already built up a solid catalog, but it’s only a matter of time before this series is a must for any artist in or visiting Chicago. This song is one of OG Stevo’s most reflective tracks that he’s ever made, it’s a touching tune that hit even harder when performed live. Watch this new live performance below and make sure to subscribe to 1Take’s YouTube!
