The Cheater – [Lil Gotit]

Throughout my years in this industry as a writer and contributor for Lyrical Lemonade, I have honestly come across few talents who are as surprising as Lil Gotit. The Atlanta emcee was always someone I had enjoyed even early on, but I really only listened to him when he was featured on one of his brother, Lil Keed’s songs, and that was really the extent of my experience with him. Then, one day I randomly decided to check out one of his earlier mixtapes to just find something new and different to listen to, and that is exactly when I turned into a fan of the young star. I honestly don’t know what song did it for me, but I knew that as soon as I heard how versatile his voice could be and how enthusiastic his cadences proved to be, I knew that he was going to be one of my favorites for quite some time and that admiration only continues to skyrocket now that his latest project The Cheater is in our hands. I am always happy when we receive new music from him, but it seems like this year started out pretty quietly when compared to other …

Behind The Track: Featuring Menace

This year at Lyrical Lemonade, I’m starting a feature section titled Behind The Track, specifically to shine a light on producers. A producer oversees all aspects of the creation of a song or album. The choice of song, choice of musicians, instruments, and vocalist(s) and how it all comes together. Your favorite artist makes dope music but without an amazing producer, your favorite song might not be so great after all. In this industry, the artist always receives credit for producing records that the world wants to listen to. However, as you start to learn more about the music business, you begin to understand how important having a dope producer is. Behind the track was created to give acknowledgment to producers that are behind our favorite songs. Whether the song might be big or small, producers deserve just as much credit as an artist. The first producer I had the opportunity to learn more about is Adnan Khan aka Menace from Manchester, England. Menace is the face behind the 2016 mega multi-platinum smash hit ‘Panda’ by Designer. This record sold over 20 million copies and collected over 7 billion + streams and counting. The beat was so popular that artists …

Multi-Talented Steelo Brim Reveals New Project Titled Eldorado Excursions

Steelo Brim is best known as the co-host of the MTV series Ridiculousness for over 10 years. The comedian, producer, writer, and actor has always juggled many roles throughout his career. However, the Chicago native decided to embark on his new journey as a musician. Brim began to cruise through the music industry as an A&R & publisher, working with legends such as Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, MikeWillMadeIt & more. On March 17, 2022, Brim’s dreams became reality. He released his debut 13-track project Eldorado Excursions with features from Dej Loaf, Vic Mensa, Fabulous, Buddy, and more. This project is me taking the vibe back to the backseat as I rode on a weekend to Franklin,” says Steelo.  Eldorado Excursions is the beginning of something spectacular for Steelo Brim. One of my favorite songs on this project was My Love ft. Buddy & Arin Ray. Produced by Rob Holladay, this track is an instant summer hit. Between the visuals and impressive punchline from every artist on this song, it’s no wonder why the video racked up 374,899 views in a short amount of time. Last week we had the opportunity to learn more about the multi-talented artist. Check out …

Looking – [Hovis]

Being from North Carolina I feel as if I have to be a great brand ambassador and curator for the Carolinas as a whole with my platform. Of course, I’m only going to try to highlight the music and artist worth peeping. Today I’m going to introduce you to Hovis the 18-year-old artist out of Wilson, North Carolina, and the smooth and quirky track “Looking.” I really wish I could use another word to describe it as quirky but I can’t really describe it and I don’t want to butcher the description. Lately in the underground pop and hyperpop scene. There’s a sub-genre that’s adding a lot of traditional pop elements along with digicore and hyper pop elements. I know that sounds like a lot of different sounds fused into one but trust me there are a lot of artists that are going to break this year and next overall sound. Some of Hovis’ influences include Dolly, Kurtains, and Veezuh in the digicore scene. However, he also stated that he finds inspiration in artists such as Brakence, underscores, Quannnic, and more. This s another young artist that didn’t start making music until recently as he started making music in mid-late …

POOR – [$avvy]

It’s been a minute since we last heard from Nashville multihyphenate $avvy. Following the release of his last project Boys Wear Pearls early last year. Save for last summer’s lone single “Calling It Quits”, it’s been mostly radio silence from our young king. If you live on the east coast you might have been able to catch $avvy perform live, but chances are you’ve been just like me – patiently waiting for new music from one of Nashville’s most exciting newcomers. Luckily today fans are treated to a project many months inthe making, POOR, the newest LP from $avvy himself. Known for his unique take on R&B and hip-hop, POOR sees $avvy flexing his artistic talents even further while sounding more concentrated than ever before. This is a theme that comes up frequently on POOR, as each track showcases a new musical style and aspect of versatility from the young Tennessee artist that fans have missed over the past year. POOR‘s opening track “CALL” features a serene and shimmering mix that sees $avvy leveling his own modern style with a vintage 90’s R&B sensibility. The next minute he’s spitting bars on “CRUCIAL” with laid-back confidence over a nostalgic mix that sounds like it could …

Vaderz-[Rico Nasty] x [Bktherula]

Washington D.C. superstar Rico Nasty returns to Lyrical Lemonade with an electrically experimental new banger titled “Vaderz.” Featuring Atlanta’s Bktherula, the song is accompanied by an aesthetically punk, multi-colored visual. Both Nasty and Bktherula employ confident, aggressive flows with ease over the daunting punk-rap instrumental, and their chemistry is so elite that the track hardly ever pauses. “Vaderz” is a legendary linkup between these two genre-bending icons, and I have a feeling that it won’t be the last. Watch the official music video below!

Get Refreshed: Blogger’s Choice Vol.1

“Get Refreshed” is a monthly column by Billy Bugara covering all things digital in the music world. Refresh yourself here. I Don’t Have The Stamina For This Blogging Shit Billy Bugara Hi. I’m back, and this time I brought my friends. So… I feel like this column could use a lot less Me every once in a while. I don’t treat blogging like a sport; I barely even blog at all. But even still, I know damn well that blogging isn’t really where I strive compared to others, and that’s okay! I have to write research papers every day… we are simply not the same. In all seriousness, I do want to explain what’s going on here before we jump into things. I am a person of platforming, a platforming person, if you will (it is my job for SoundCloud, after all). I just really enjoy turning the spotlight towards those who deserve it most. Most of the time – all of the time, really – I’m featuring musicians. But what about turning this spotlight towards other people who like to… spotlight musicians as well? Is this really ever done? Not often! Can it be done? Should it be done? Yes and yes! …

T-Shyne New Project ‘CONFETTI NIGHTS’ Out Now

Confetti Nights call for a celebration. That is exactly what Young Stoner Life signee T-Shyne’s new project calls for. A celebration of his journey thus far as an artist. Confetti Nights 15-track list includes features from Young Thug, Gunna, Meek Mill, Nav, JID, NAV,6lack, Swae Lee, Dougie F, and Westway. This album has generated a lot of buzz surrounding two-time NBA championship winner, Kevin Durant being listed as an executive producer on the project.  “Confetti Nights is like a celebration of sorts. The basketball player who just made it to the league, following him on his journey from his rookie year to his first championship win. As life goes, most people don’t start at the top,” T-Shyne explained. “But no matter your status or position, we’re all on a journey to improve some aspects of ourselves. This has been a very personal project for me. I tapped into a new vulnerability, sharing parts of my life I’ve never shared before. Stories I’ve never told. I truly believe others will be able to connect to this project more than any other project I’ve released.” The Bronx rapper’s unique style, vivid lyrical caliber, and determination to bring out different styles and showcase …

Melt My Eyez See Your Future – [Denzel Curry]

Confucius once said that real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance. Unfortunately for him, self-reflection doesn’t seem to be a particular strength for our species these days – many of us are prone to ignoring hard truths, content with living in our bubble away from the news and reality we’re captive to. Does salvation really exist alongside our suffering? Or does knowledge simply bring a painful consciousness regarding things we cannot change? On his long-awaited LP Melt My Eyez, See Your Future, Denzel Curry makes a strong case in favor of intense introspection, presenting listeners with a story of rapturous deliverance following years of meditative habits and inevitably facing himself. The album’s title is a direct reference to this – “Melt My Eyez” representing our own avoidant behaviors that ultimately harm us. “See Your Future” representing our shared humanity, the benefits of self-reflection, and the knowledge that we all have the power to better not only ourselves but the world around us. Inspired by “a combination of what’s going on right now in the world and Akira Kurosawa films with Toshiro Mifune”, Denzel Curry’s newest LP is his strongest yet, combining both classic and forward-thinking elements of …
