Badmon – [Kill Jasper]

On one hand, you’ve got Kill Jasper: a 19-year old talent emerging from Compton, California whose voice and thoughtfully-melodic tone are his defining features. On the other hand, you’ve got Melvoni: a Brooklyn-bred name a few years younger than Jasper, but similarly melodic and faithfully emotive in his vocals. Today, pairing the two artists in a song that envelops the talent of opposite coasts, Jasper and Melvoni are here to unveil “Badmon” – an obviously melodic cut, but one that dives just deep enough to cut through the oversaturated market of melodic rap right now. Just under 3 minutes in length, “Badmon” is a paced release, resorting to a speed under which both artists’ vocals are able to fully shine. With each line, from Jasper’s rags-to-riches opening verse to the heart-in-hand shine of Melvoni’s feature, the song uses vocals to light the way while the production creates a consistent, impassioned backdrop, conducive to such a sound. Flowered with brief guitar licks, echoing background vocals, and even the in-and-out presence of the drums, every step along the way is calculated, and every note delivered in its fullest emotion. The result, a standout release in Kill Jasper’s growing catalog, and another must-listen …

Who We Are – [Journey Gz] x [Melvoni]

I think my past five posts have all been rappers from New York, but the thing is you’d probably not know they all hailed from the same city given the sheer versatility of sounds coming out of the hip-hop epicenter right now. Journey Gz is yet another testament to this versatility, and the 19-year-old artist sets his unique melodic rap style aflame with his new music video and single “Who We Are”. Journey Gz proves to have a masterful handle on balancing emotional melody with straightforward lyricism on this track, drawing inspiration from his own come-up and struggles to paint a vivid sonic picture for a listener. By his side is another young and buzzing New York prospect by the name of Melvoni, and once the two link up over the piano-driven trap beat, it seems like there’s no stopping them. Both Journey Gz and Melvoni go bar-for-bar on this song, populating the beat with a barrage verses that come from a place of genuine rawness and pain. They deliver exactly what a listener might expect from a song titled “Who We Are”, spitting a grim and unedited autobiography straight from their hearts onto the track in a way that’s …

Oh No – [Mel Glizzy]

Alongside the wave of Brooklyn drill taking over New York City and beyond right now, the Bronx is another hotspot for new talent, clearly ready to offer a bright future for the city. From Lil Tjay all the way to Melvoni, the area’s melodic sound is a must-listen, with numerous stars-in-the-making to attest. Most recently, I stumbled on a talent named Mel Glizzy from the Bronx, who is determined to put on with anthemic offerings such as his latest, “Oh No.” According to Glizzy himself, the song represents “my life changing and me elevating as a person. I lost a close from of mine who passed away due to the streets, so I put it all in one song — straight pain from the trenches.” Following this blueprint, “Oh No” meshes the melody-driven Bronx sound with passion-packed lyrics, placing Glizzy’s heartful songwriting atop a knocking bed of production. The result is a song that arrives equal parts genuine as it is catchy, indicative of one of the Bronx’s brightest new artists. Get hip by streaming “Oh No” at the link below, and be on the lookout for an accompanying music video soon!

Who We Are – [Journey Gz] x [Melvoni]

It seems as if every day I’m writing up somebody different from NYC, and as the hip-hop scene continues to explode on the East Coast, I have to dive deeper into some of the artists who are making it happen. Melvoni is someone I’ve covered before, and I must say after this track “Who We Are,” there’s no question that he’ll become a household name sooner than later for hip-hop listeners everywhere. Melvoni pairs up with fellow NYC native Journey Gz, who has also made a name for himself across music platforms with roughly 400k streams on his latest five-song EP Better Days which only released a month ago. “Who We Are” was just released a day ago, and has accumulated 5k streams since. The two bring a soulful feel to a narrative filled with trials, tribulations, and frustrating realities that come with living a life on the come-up. Fake friends, street gossip, and long nights in the struggle are some of the prevalent themes in this ear-worm by the NYC duo. Both obtain light, rare vocals that provide an extra asset to entice the listener even further. “I remember them days, when I was hanging ’round with them snakes,” Melvoni …

To the Top – [Melvoni]

Most people at age 15 are attempting to navigate their awkward bodies through the stages of puberty. However, Brooklyn native Melvoni seems to have matured much faster – though his voice may not show for it. His luminous vocal range spread thin over exceptional lyricism and flow shows his raw talent in his latest single, “To The Top”. “I pray to God I don’t lose myself, I pray to God I don’t abuse my health – I still keep the deuce-deuce under my belt.” Melvoni preaches his harsh realities as a teenager in Brooklyn while trying to maintain his sanity in attempting to make it out of his current situation. Further exemplifying the fact that he is beyond his years, he exclaims struggles with his love life and plans of reaching goals of fortune and fame. “I will not stop, I want the guap, I’ma keep rising until I get hot.” This is the first track I have heard from Melvoni, but with his smooth, light vocals infused with his experiential coming-of-age realities, he’ll have a returning listener. His early tracks on Soundcloud have amassed hundreds of thousands of streams across the platform, with “To The Top” already reaching 167k plays in …

To The Top – [Melvoni]

New York City may be a hotbed of talent right now, but even so, few artists are doing it quite like the 15-year old legend, Melvoni. Arriving to the scene with a slew of heartfelt, deeply-reflective anthems, this budding star has captured NYC’s ear with some truly remarkable vocals, and even further, his increasingly impressive songwriting skills remain equally as captivating. Today, we welcome Melvoni back onto our pages with his brand new offering, “To The Top.” In signature style, this offering takes things slowly, allowing Melvoni to develop his sound and get in his zone as the song progresses. The accompanying visuals speak to this same purpose, as the illustrative scenes translate the NYC representative’s vivid allure onto the big screen with ease. “To The Top” keeps success on the mind with music as its main focus, and if not anything else, it acts as proof of why Melvoni is going to be huge — that is, so as long as he continues growing and developing his sound. And just a reminder, he’s 15, so there’s plenty of room for that. I can’t wait to see where Melvoni heads next, and by the looks of it, neither can he. Check …

Memories – [Melvoni]

Personally, contrast is one of the most effective traits of music when it comes to grabbing my attention, and today, an incredibly promising young talent from New York, Mevloni, is here to display just this with his brand new offering, “Memories.” The reason that I mention contrast here is that one of the most striking qualities of Melvoni’s latest is the way that such pain-stricken lyrics are able to coexist in a beautiful and complementary manner next to the weeping acoustic guitar riffs. If you only heard the instrumental here, you would guess that “Memories” is something closer to a country song, but when the buzzing talent’s impassioned vocals come in, the feeling changes entirely, taking on an impactful narrative about the strength surrounding Melvoni’s come-up. With all odds stacked against him in many ways, this rising talent refuses to give up, and his latest offering is a direct reflection of this determination to find success in the music world. That said, all signs are pointing up for Melvoni, so be sure to hop on the wave by checking out “Memories” at the link provided below! Directed by: @jvyneta & @officialmikelo
