Yung POLO – “Gettin Dem Loads Off”

This year, I have written about a few producers who transformed into artists. In my opinion, it makes the artist a double sword because you understand different components of what goes into creating music. Up-and-coming artist Yung Polo from Chattanooga, TN always had a passion for music as a child. His father was a part of a popular group called Reel Tight composed of Tennessee natives Bobby Kane, Bobby Rice, Danny Johnson, and Reggie Long. Watching his father as a child made Polo want to follow in his father’s footsteps. He got his foot into the door by engineering for almost the whole city of Chattanooga. He eventually landed major placements with Lil Baby, Glorilla, Kwony Cash, and more. However, once the rising artist relocated to Knoxville, he began to take his career more seriously. Last month, Young Polo shared his latest record “Gettin Dem Loads Off.” He linked up his producer friend Cuzyn, who he has been working with for the last two years, to create a track his audience can relate to. “I freestyled the whole song and was done recording it within 45-50 mins. I feel like the meaning of this song is for all the hustlers …

FREE SOUNDs [Volume 2]

Cover Photo by @135alistair After introducing the new FREE SOUNDs column two weeks ago, we’re back today with round 2. From NY to Atlanta, Toronto, London, NOLA, and the Carolinas, here’s another batch of interesting and true-to-self things that have been in rotation as of late. Check out Volume 2 below and if you haven’t already, peep FREE SOUNDs Volume 1 here. – – – DEXTER I’ve been a fan of London artist dexter for some time now, and “Pressure” might just be my favorite release of hers thus far. The energy on the song is infectious, the production urges for movement, and dexter’s hook has found itself etched into my brain ever since it came out. Adding additional excitement to “Pressure” is the fact that dexter is also wearing a Corteiz tracksuit in the video, having released the song with Corteiz’s RULESTHEWORLD Records. The UK’s busiest streetwear brand can’t seem to miss, and signing an artist like dexter only enriches the existing connection between London’s fashion and music scenes. “Pressure” checks off every box, leaving me me just as excited as a fan of dexter as it does as a fan of Corteiz. Check this one out below: MEL GLIZZY …

Lady London releases “Lady Like: The Boss Tape” with 13 of her most celebrated freestyles

If you have been watching Lady London over the years, you know her craftmanship is finally receiving the recognition she deserves. As a poet since 2018, London grew to fame on social media by flipping and remixing a few of Hip Hop’s most revered tracks from artists like Foxy Brown, and Busta Rhymes. Hip-Hip icon Cardi B praised her bars in “Money Over,” and expressed that London is “the most slept on.” The song has accumulated over 500k views on Youtube thus far. As an artist, London’s versatility sets her apart from her peers. Being an artist is only one part of her puzzle. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Howard University and a Master of Science in Global Medicine from the University of Southern California. Her knowledge and hustle mentality help to develop her into the artist she is today. “There are multiple levels to me,” she explains. “I’m not one-dimensional. I really take my craft seriously. I consider rap to be an artform—not a trend. I’ve studied cadences, timing, breath control, double and triple entendres, and syllables. It almost breaks down to an exact science. I pay attention to verbiage, semantics, and diction. I’m …

Walk Down – [Lil Gotit] ft. [CEO Trayle] [Lil Double 0] & [Biggz]

Lil Gotit has always been an artist who I felt like I was on a weekly streak of writing about something new that he released. It almost felt like he never found time to sleep because he was always working, but I’m not complaining even slightly considering he was one of the most entertaining names in the entire rap world. Of course, as a lot of other fans were, I was put onto him through his older brother Lil Keed and his affiliation with Young Thug and Gunna, but I quickly realized he was as individual as it gets, and he wasn’t just another Atlanta clone like so many other artists seem to be. This past summer, he turned even more heads with his album Top Chef Gotit, but ever since that was released and he dropped a few music videos for it, it seemed like he went a little quiet, and I found myself hungry for more music from the ATL up-and-comer. Thankfully, that hunger was satisfied recently after he dropped a brand-new song entitled “Walk Down” featuring CEO Trayle, Lil Double 0, and Biggz as well as another dope music video that was directed by Shotbywolf and Nelshoitit. …

YXNG K.A Drops Visuals for His Latest Single “LOVE ME”

North Philly Rapper YXNG K.A revealed visuals to his latest single “Love Me” under Double O/ Interscope Records. The melodic and soulful record showcases heartfelt honesty and vulnerability. The song has received over 33k views in only 24 hours. This is no surprise considering his single “Can’t Break Me” has received over 1.9 million views in just one month. YXNG K.A presents a more compassionate side in his new single which is a love letter to his imminent future queen. Running a bit over two minutes, the video showcases his vocal range, harmonizing melodies, and undeniable bars even in a love song. With the SiAngie twins by his side, this video was an eye-catcher for the fans. Even though his debut album REAPER SZN was released in 2020, he hasn’t slowed down since. He has been catching the eye of fellow stars J.I., and Lil TJay. Just last month, he appeared as a guest artist for Meek Mill & Friends’ Expensive Pain live with Lil Uzi Vert, A Boogie, 42 Dugg, Est Gee, Fivio Foreign, Rowdy Rebel, and many more. “It’s a good feeling knowing they reaching out. I was just listening to them, man. When Uzi hit me, I …

Sofaygo, The Boy Who Believed

When Andre Dontrel Burt decided to release the three-track EP, We Are Aliens, as SoFaygo, a new pseudonym to replace his former rap name, Trvllinese, the reception wasn’t exactly favorable. “I was getting backlash when I made that transition in 2018,” the 19-year-old rapper remembered, “People was not fucking with it. They liked Trvllinese better. I told them, bro, watch, y’all gonna see.” You make it seem like you knew what was going to happen? “I did,” he replied, “I always felt like I was going to be great, bro.”  Self-assurance doesn’t come in short supply for the Georgia-born teen. His need for a superstar’s resolve dates back to Junior year at Harrison High School. “I started caring less about people’s opinions in 11th grade,” SoFaygo recalled, “That’s when I started wearing different kinds of clothes, dyeing my hair in all different kinds of colors, just adapting to what Atlanta was on at the time.” “But niggas used to try me, bruh,” he asserted. “I don’t know why, maybe because I was different, but they would call me and my music weird.” With a light chuckle, the confident rookie added, “I was having none of that, bruh. I was always …

Stunt Double – [Lil Yachty] ft. [Rio Da Yung OG]

Despite the fact that Lil Yachty hails all the way from Atlanta, it almost seems like he turns into a different person when he finds himself up north in Michigan. He’s one of the few people who truly respects all of the insane talents coming out of the state, and even though there are so many different styles and sounds that all of these artists are delivering, I truly and firmly believe that Yachty did his very best to encapsulate just about all of these personalities on Michigan Boy Boat. Even though he might’ve been slightly out of his comfort zone when first starting to rap over some of these beats, he seemed to come into his own on this project and the most noticeable thing is the fact that his wordplay seemed to be at an all-time high. While it’s tough for me to pick a favorite song on the album considering it’s jam-packed full of bangers, one track I found myself gravitating towards earlier on has got to be “Stunt Double” which features the unbelievably talented Rio Da Yung OG. Despite the fact that Rio is currently locked up for various reasons that he describes as things that …

Bob Ross – [A$AP Ant] ft. [Lulu P] & [A$AP Twelvyy]

Right at the end of last year, A$AP Ant decided to bless us with his unbelievable project entitled Lil Black Jean Jacket 2, an album containing 17 songs that ran just under 40 minutes long. While I think it goes without saying that Ant is one of the more underrated members of A$AP Mob, he knows exactly how talented he is, and fans aren’t quick to forget that either. A few days ago, the homie hit me up and told me about a brand-new music video for the album’s record “Bob Ross” which also features the unbelievably talented Lulu P and fellow Mob member A$AP Twelvyy. While I’m not entirely sure who shot this flick, I do know that they made it an entire community affair, bringing out what seemed like the whole city of New York to back up some of the best emcees coming out of the city. Opening up in a crowd of people, certain individuals are showing off their designer garments as well as the substances they’re carrying around with them like lean and countless blunts, of course. The entire visual seems to have some sort of granular filter as we move on throughout, giving the …

Toosie – [Lil Gotit]

Lil Gotit has got to be one of the most consistently impressive Atlanta up-and-comers over the past year or two, and he isn’t even close to done when it comes to turning heads. Most recently, he decided to sample the famous 69 Boyz’ song “Tootsee Roll” in his latest track “Toosie”, and the results are as wacky as they are entertaining. While you can hear the hook of the original track pop in and out throughout, things change to a relatively more simplistic rhythm in between these portions to allow Gotit to display his bars. While spitting, Gotit shows off some inventive flows and wild deliveries, per usual, yet his wordplay and creativity seem to be at an all-time high with this record, making me excited for what’s to come in the future. In the music video, he decided to recruit the legendary star Gunna to direct for him, and the recognizable face also makes a brief cameo in the middle of the visual that brought some cool familiarity to the party. Throughout this flick, certain scenes show Gotit in a film studio either hanging out around some props or inside of a car surrounded by lovely females who are …

Summoner – [BBY GOYARD]

There are very few artists in the underground that have even close to the amount of respect that I have for BBY GOYARD. He is simply in a world of his own, and if you’re not creative, open-minded, or ready to hear some of the best and most unique music in the entire industry, then you’re going to breeze right past him without even realizing it. If you are any of the previously mentioned things, though, you just opened your world up to some of the most unbelievable songs that have ever been made, and you have Lil Shannon to thank. When you tune in to one of his projects, it’s almost like he’s a group of artists within one being because the dynamic sounds he can create and very different vocals or stylistic choices he brings to life always bring something new to the table and I’m always curious which persona is going to come out in each new song he drops. Most recently, he decided to drop off an incredible new record entitled “Summoner” which was produced by Taylor Morgan and 4evr. These two hitmakers joined forces and brought a few intriguing sounds to life including dreamy, ambient …
