It’s no secret that the Florida rap scene has a special place in my heart, but even after finding out about a ton of different artists throughout the years, there are a few that always stand out to me, and I know that whenever they drop something new, I have to tune in. Kuttem Reese is an artist who I found out about later than most, but ever since I first heard some of his music, I knew that he was a force in the music business, and I have been tapping in every chance I get. After receiving nods from superstars like 21 Savage, Lil Durk, Rod Wave, and fellow Floridian Hotboii, the 20-year-old talent has been amassing millions of plays and views which in turn has to result in millions of dollars as well, and that’s not something that he’ll let you forget while listening. After releasing his debut mixtape Kutt Dat Boy last year to critical acclaim, he is back like he never left with his video single “Different”, and I couldn’t be more eager to share it with you all. I feel like I’m beating a dead horse at this point, but I seriously can’t go a week it seems without writing about another artist from Florida, and that’s something that I seriously can’t wait to do. This region is simply full of some of the most talented emcees in the entire game, and it seems like they’re in their own little world down there. Whether they’re artists like Kodak Black, Hotboii, or 9lokknine, or other talents like Pouya, Denzel Curry, $NOT, or Ski Mask the Slump God, they all have one thing in common, and that’s the fact that their work ethic is unmatched. Some of these artists may have a similar accent or drawl within their music, but that is basically the extent of their similarities because even if they make a comparable style of music, they always incorporate so much personality and individuality into their songs that comparisons can’t be thrown around easily whatsoever. Out of all the artists I can think of from the southern state, Kuttem Reese is one who has such a specific sound and journey that he simply can’t be ignored. The Florida rap scene has been absolutely booming over the past year or two, but it seems like it’s taking a while for the rest of the country to catch on. It reminds me a lot of the Michigan scene as well because until Lil Yachty went up there to put the rest of the country on, it seemed like a very niche and close-knit community of fans that were ride or die, but everyone else was sleeping. This is what has happened in Florida as well, but the number of talented acts emerging is literally countless, and every single day a new artist rises from the shadows, it seems. While emcees like Kodak Black, Hotboii, and 9lokknine are some of the more notable names coming out of the southern region, Kuttem Reese is a talent who I’ve become very familiar with, and I feel like he just continues to get better with every new release he puts out.
