King Marie Interview: Rejuvenated, Realigned & Reborn

“This music feels like the most me. I love my first EP The Prelude and I think it’s a great project, but with 222, I can feel the growth of me. The amount of confidence I have instilled in myself over the past two years, 222 is a dedication to my arrival. I am present and I am here. I’m exactly who the fuck I say I am.” -King Marie More often than not, lots of artists glorify the amazing parts of being musical artists. The studio sessions, having fun traveling and doing shows, music video shoots, so on and so forth. However, there aren’t too many artists that show the opposite side of that lifestyle. Those days as an artist when you get knocked down and have to pick yourself back up. When you have identity issues or question if this lifestyle is even for you or not. Having tons of music and scrapping it because the timing wasn’t right. These are all things that people never consider when it comes to being an artist, but for King Marie, she went through all of that, and then some. Born and raised in Chicago, King Marie was brought up in a …

Rain – [Tommy Ice] ft. [Annamarie]

Atlanta is obviously a music city that needs absolutely no introduction, but it goes so much further and deeper than just the surface. While names like Future, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, and countless other massive artists are lucky enough to call this city home, there are definitely so many other artists that are making remarkable music, even if these aforementioned names might get all of the mainstream attention. Nonetheless, I want to bring these underground icons the credit that they rightfully deserve, and my list begins with Tommy Ice. Tommy is someone who I have been listening to for years, watching him come into his own as a producer, rapper, and all-around creative, and at this point, I feel like I’m lucky enough to even consider him a friend, even if it’s just through the internet at this point. He never fails to impress me, and he definitely continued to do so on his latest SoundCloud released song “Rain”, featuring Annamarie. Produced by Tommy himself as well as Guala, this one features lighthearted ukulele-sounding strings that clash with pungent 808s and crisp percussion that give a slightly trap-like sound to an otherwise serene foundation. Annamarie, who I wasn’t …

My Favorite Projects of 2021

2021 has very much been an up and down year for most, but it’s undeniably been a phenomenal year for music. In fact, I enjoyed listening to so many releases that I’d forgotten some even released this year. Not only has there been plenty of stylistic/genre variety, but also artists of all types (small, emerging, mainstream) actively releasing their art. To showcase my appreciation, I decided to put together a list of my favorite projects; (in no particular order) all of which remain in my rotation heading into the new year. I hope you discover an album, EP or mixtape that you might have missed! Last but not least, this list is also a token of gratitude to each and every person that has read a Lyrical Lemonade piece of mine. I wish you a happy and fulfilling New Year. – – – – – Issa Gold: Tempus (album) Genres: Introspective hip-hop, Conscious rap Favorite track: Cold Summer   Amaria – Bittersweet (EP) Genres: R&B Favorite track: Lose Control   Richie Quake – Voyager (EP) Genres: R&B, Indie Favorite Track: Sensitive   Jean Deaux – Most Wanted (EP) Genres: Hip-Hop, Modern R&B, Electro-Trap Favorite track: Stay Down Marlon Craft – How We Intended (album) Genres: Hip-Hop, Jazz …

KING 2.0 – [King Marie]

Chicago’s multi-faceted star known as King Marie has been someone who has been making a killing within the Chicago music scene for years now. Also known as DJ King Marie, she has been a part of many major events and has DJ’ed tons of functions all throughout Chicago. Not being limited to just one outlet of music, King Marie also makes music as well and does a very amazing job at it. After the release of her debut EP The Prelude back in 2019, she would spend the next year or so focusing on bettering herself not only as an artist but as an overall human being. Today, she is back and better than ever premiering her brand new single and video for her song “King 2.0”. Being someone who is as active as King Marie is in the creative world, there’s no doubt in my mind that being rebuilt and reborn again is inevitable. In “King 2.0”, she reflects on that process and speaks on everything that she has worked so hard for in her life, and now being able to enjoy the fruits of her labor. While she primarily sings on her other records, this time around she lays …

Gifts From… – [Matt Audio Dope]

Chicago producer and engineer Matt Audio Dope is very well established in the Chicago music scene and has built up an amazing track record of artists from the city. After putting in so much work behind the boards, Matt takes on the executive producer role and decided to put together his own star-studded cast of artists for his own body of work. Handing all the producing, mixing, and mastering, Matt Audio Dope is dropping off his brand new EP titled Gifts From… Born in the Northwest Suburbs, Matt started producing music of his own just over ten years ago. After obtaining his Audi Arts degree just a few years ago, he began working at Classick Studios, a legendary recording studio here in Chicago with artists such as SZA, Chance the Rapper, and Smino all having been recorded here in the past. In celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month this October, Matt recruited tons of Filipino artists in Chicago to lay down tracks for the EP. The amazingly talented King Marie kicks the album off right with an old-school Chicago house track with “Free.99”. She also has a song featured on the tape titled “Out Of Love” which is the first song …

Gravity – [Marie Noreger]

“In the process of making my ep Gravity I painted a picture of emotional episodes that I feel like a lot of us can connect to. It starts with “Adore,” the opening track. “Adore” brings up the feeling of having an exposed heart.. being captured in between, fragile and naked.. basically falling in love. “On you” is the second track of the ep, which brings up the feeling of waiting, daydreaming of getting together again. The title really says it all, it´s on you, I´m here waiting on you. But it´s a hopeful kind of waiting. “Eager to feel” is tapping more into introspection, and “Bullshit in disguise” and “Soulfully high” is both songs about how I sometimes view the world. Bs in disguise Is almost like a reality check tbh, like “What dream should I wake up from?” That´s really how I can feel sometimes. The ep ends with the track “Gravity” which brings up a pure yet nostalgic feeling. Your person may not be there anymore but you’re still caring as if they were.. You cherish the moments you got together and the only reason for why you can, is because you found the love within. Even though …

just friends now-[Sally Boy]

When taking into account the impressive year that Sally Boy had, many would assume that the Los Angeles based artist would be taking time after the release of his debut EP to rest and take a much deserved break from dropping music just like everyone else; but, Sally Boy is definitely not your regular artist. If you listened to the Erez EP, then you know that the up and comer overachieved with the collection of music that he blessed us with. A lot of us are still listening to tracks like, “I Wonder” “To You” and “Marie”, but to keep us on our toes and end the year with a bang, Sally Boy decided to releasee one more single before we hit 2021. His new offering called, “just friends now” made it onto streaming platforms last night and it is already one of my favorite songs of the month. The one-minute and thirty-nine second offering is a fresh breath of air and the perfect piece to bridge the gap between Sally Boy’s exponentially grab 2020 and the much anticipated 2021 that he’s about to have. From the production to the melodies and harmonies, Sally Boy didn’t miss a beat with …

Sun – [Leslie Marie] ft. [Shantina Lynet]

Chicago singer Leslie Marie is making her debut on our platform tonight with her brand new offering titled “Sun” featuring Shantina Lynet. I randomly found this song while browsing through Soundcloud and once I saw the production credit from Banks The Genius I knew I should give it a spin, it seems as if whatever records he has his hands on turn to gold and sure enough that was the case here! Leslie Marie and Shantina Lynet used their soothing vocals to create this uplifting anthem, complimenting the soulful production by Banks The Genius and GØL perfectly. Listen to this brand new tune below and if you like it be sure to follow Leslie here!

Marie Curie – [Pi’erre Bourne]

As we should all know by now, Pi’erre Bourne is the definition of a hit machine. His music oozes with addicting melodies and other-worldly styles, and today, we see this on full display yet again with Pi’erre’s latest – the music video for “Marie Curie”, which he dropped just a few weeks back. Taking into account the extremely ambitious and creative sonic direction that the song takes, the accompanying visuals act as just the right illustration to pair alongside such an intoxicating song. Rapidly-moving, colorful scenes cross the screen with video game and VHS influences, watching as Pi’erre sings his song surrounded by hypnotic effects that any viewer is bound to love. This is yet another quality release to add to the rising star’s catalog, so check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments!
