The Ultimate Drake Album: A Twisted Love Story

FOREWORD In the history of the hip-hop industry, there has never been a more dominant artist than Aubrey “Drake” Graham. The 33 year-old superstar has undergone several re-inventions over the years, much to the delight of his ever-growing fanbase. As much as we have seen him progress, however, the substance in his music carries one glaring constant – heartbreak. It’s no secret that Drake is the master of the introspective love song, and as much as it probably pains him to have to go through experiences that inspire these records, the music has continued to serve as salvation for distraught fans everywhere.  At this point, we owe Drake for giving us all this incredible music at the expense of his own emotional distress. My first thought in paying homage was to curate a carefully-selected 100-song playlist of all his best music. Quickly, I realized that: 1) it’s an impossibly subjective task to narrow down his 100 “best” records, and 2) a playlist that deep is sure to oversaturate the respect we’re trying to pay in this instance. So I took a different approach. I thought to myself, ‘what would Drake appreciate the most from the perspective of a long-time fan? …

It Was Good Until It Wasn’t – [Kehlani]

It’s nothing but amazing when artists really take the time out to perfect their craft and figure themselves out, to the point where they are happy with the product that they are putting out. You can make countless music day in and day out, but it takes time to really hone in and figure out what direction you would like to go in for a certain project, or for the remainder of your career. While Kehlani has always been an artist to deliver music that comes from deep within her soul, she has been tremendously underrated since her initial burst onto the scene with her Cloud 19 mixtape. It often blows my mind that we had not received a full length album from Kehlani since her 2017 album SweetSexySavage. While we have heard a handful of mixtapes and features from her during that time frame, fans were eagerly awaiting her next full body of work. At last, our eardrums are finally being soothed with amazing sounds from her latest offering It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. Kehlani first emerged onto the scene at a younger age, so the direction of her earlier music was a lot more pop-ish and aimed towards a younger demographic-which …

P*$$Y Fairy (OTW) – [Jhene Aiko]

Many of us may look at Jhene Aiko as the soft-spoken, soul healing queen of R&B–and would not be wrong for those depictions. However, very seldom do we see the other side of her–the side where she becomes more in tune and expressing her sexuality and intimacy within her music. Of course, we all remember the “groceries” that went viral, and her 2017 track “Maniac” in which this is when we first caught a glimpse of the luscious side of Jhene. Now that we have seen both sides, there’s no telling where she will go, what subject matter she will speak of, or the direction she will go on her next full-length project. She has been releasing music and features pretty frequently, but just a few moments ago she debuted her newest single titled “P*$$Y Fairy (OTW” (stylized for the sake of cleanliness I’m sure). In this song, we receive much more of the lusty side of Jhene Aiko as she sings about her intimate interactions with her love interest. “You can’t get enough of me, well I guess it’s looking like you stuck with me” she sings–speaking to whomever she has sprung on her love at the time. Of course, …

Tobi Lou: Chicago’s Rising Superhero

Tobi Lou is a lot of things: he is a unbelievably talented artist, a trend setter, a Chicagoan, a unique individual and a self proclaimed superhero. I don’t believe that’s far fetched either: the way that Tobi has built his career to this point, the positive + contagious energy he puts out, his extraordinary charisma, it’s something like a superhero. About a month or so ago I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to interview Tobi Lou after his sensational set at Governors Ball in New York, and after being a huge fan & rooting for Tobi over the past couple of years, I had a bunch of questions I wanted to ask him! I have spoke to hundreds of artists in the past but this conversation that I had with Tobi Lou is one of my favorites for sure, he has a great energy & aura around him, he is undeniably himself and it’s only a matter of time before he is one of the biggest artists in the world. Take some time out of your day to learn about Tobi Lou below, and don’t forget to follow him on Twitter & Instagram! Visit Tobi Lou’s website here!   EM: …

I Rather – [Lexxy]

Some voices can just reel you in. New York-based singer, Lexxy, does exactly that. On her newest single, I Rather,” the young artist keeps it real with her lyrics: “Invite me to the club won’t matter, I never dress up anyway no matter / See, I’d rather stay up in the crib that’s some real shit.” For Lexxy, this song describes the stance of a popular introvert. She has a lot of friends, gets invited to the bars, but really wants to spend her nights at home creating and kick it (which a lot of us relate too). Lexxy’s beautiful voice, comparable to Jhene Aiko, is accompanied by equally as beautiful production done by Invisible Will. Trap drums and acoustic guitar have never sounded better. “I Rather,” is a hit. Period. I’m excited to see what the Bronx artist will create next. Stream “I Rather” here: Words by Barry R

Lyrical Lemonade Presents: The Abby Jasmine Q&A

Abby Jasmine is one of the most talented new upcoming artists in the game, I recently got the chance to meet her while speaking on a panel at SXSW a couple of weeks ago, and then when she was in Chicago the other day for a concert with T-Pain I thought why not bring her through our office for an interview for the website? One thing about Abby that stands out is her unbelievable charisma and her stage presence when performing, she appears like an experienced veteran although she is just only twenty years old, which is exactly why she is touring the country on with the OG T-Pain at this very moment. That crazy part is that I haven’t even mentioned her stellar vocal abilities and her crafty song making ability, and impressive catalog she has created up to this point. On top of all of this she has an amazing team backing her over at Cinematic, so the sky is truly the limit for this young superstar. I am extremely excited to see where she goes from here but I expect nothing but the best for her, so go ahead and get in tune with the New York native by learning …

Alaska – [Sra]

Let’s give South Carolina songbird Sra a warm welcome to the Lyrical Lemonade pages with her new project ‘Alaska’. As a sucker for a good aesthetic and appealing artwork and her abstract for ‘Alaska‘ is what drew me in the press play. When you hear Sra’s voice over the first track in “South Village” you get the sense that this is more than just a look, she has some big-time talent. Her vocals over the five-track extended play sound so fluid and effortless across her production. Similar popular acts that come to mind when I’m running through this body of work, are people like Jhene Aiko and Solonage as far as vibes go. With all the talk of who the king or queen of r&b was near the end of 2018, the flare and hype of the genre are back. Don’t be surprised if you see Sra come out as one of the sleeper newcomers of the genre this year. Stream Sra’s project ‘Alaska’ below.

4 AM – [2 Chainz] ft. [Travis Scott]

Last night, 2 Chainz took to social media and released a new single, 4 AM, featuring Travis Scott.  Although 2 Chainz is still enjoying the success of his previous singles Big Amount (ft. Drake) and Good Drank (ft. Gucci Mane and Quavo), it appears that he may have another smash hit under his belt with La Flame.  This banger is also produced by one of the hottest producers in the game, Murda Beatz.  2 Chainz also revealed the tracklist for his upcoming album, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which will be released June 16.  The album features the Migos, Sawe Lee, Pharrell, Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz and Jhene Aiko.  In the meantime, check out the new single below.

It’s A Vibe – [2 Chainz] x [Ty Dolla $ign] x [Trey Songz] x [Jhené Aiko]

After recently announcing a push-back on his latest project “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music,” 2 Chainz is still continuing to put the work in with a hot new visual for “It’s A Vibe” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz and Jhené Aiko. The G Koop and Murda-produced record originally surfaced last month and rides a smooth, acoustical beat which saw each artist deliver their seductive R&B-type lyrics on vibing with your girl and so much more. Not only that, the visual is exactly what you’d expect with several model-women chilling in a low-lit club, multiple bottle-popping, and even Trey Songz hanging out with a girl in what looks like a Rolls Royce convertible. 2 Chainz recently stated in an interview that there is no longer a release date for PGLTM due to collaboration issues, so it’s looking like we’ll just have to be patient until everything is worked out. Until then, make sure to peep the “It’s A Vibe” visual below and let us know what you thought about it in the comments section.
