Spend It – [Babyface Ray] ft. [Blxst] & [Nija]

People who grew up in rough areas of the country typically let their upbringing influence the type of music they make, and that’s completely understandable. I mean, you can’t expect them to talk about things that they’re not familiar with or haven’t been through because then it just wouldn’t be honest or genuine, so the fact that these emcees have lived through pain, violence, and hardships make their story that much more captivating, and it often leads to much more authentically impressive music. Babyface Ray has been through a lot and seen even more, so while his music often reflects these moments and experiences throughout his life, the career he has built through music has allowed him to witness another way of living, and that’s something he never shies away from while flexing on people with his designer goods and flashy jewelry. His latest release “Spend It” takes a bit of a pivot to this approach, though, because in the James Rico-directed music video, he decides to shower his love interest with wealth and appreciation rather than brag about his own riches. Accompanied by Nija who delivers an amazing hook and Blxst whose second verse is certainly one of my …

Deal Or No Deal – [Benny The Butcher]

With rap capos Boldy James, Conway The Machine, and Westside Gunn, sharing the headlines, Griselda affiliate Benny The Butcher is ready to make strides in 2020. Benny is coming off a three-year project run, having dropped Butcher on Steroids, (2017) Tana Talk 3, (2018) and The Plugs I Met (2019) respectively. “187 with Griselda wrote in Arabic, murder I’m aware of it, cause I’m who takin’ care of it..” is the chilling opener from Butcher off his latest titled “Deal Or No Deal,” produced by the Buffalo, New York favorite Daringer. Daringer’s instrumentals are always a perfect match for Griselda due to the producer’s ominous signature sound; every collaboration of theirs is like an unreleased scene from your favorite mafia film. Not to mention, Benny is the head of the Black Soprano family. Benny’s motto “violence the only way you answer violence” is well understood by Daringer, incorporating a beat that perfectly emphasizes DANGER to the listener. Labeling Griselda the “super-villains to the music business,” Benny announces that he’s made coke rap sound like a new invention, all while abiding by actual street codes in real life. Butcher implicitly implies there is a good chunk of artists attempting to maintain a similar identity, …

Watch Rico Nasty’s New Freestyle With Kenny Beats on “The Cave”

On the verge of Rico Nasty and Kenny Beats’ forthcoming collaborative offering, Anger Management, it’s more than exciting to see that the latest episode of Kenny’s new series, “The Cave,” features none other than the dynamic duo, themselves. While drinking Yerba tea and relentlessly roasting one another, Kenny puts together a simplistic, haymaker-inducing instrumental, allowing Rico to hop in the studio and perform quite possibly the most entertaining freestyle I’ve seen all year long. Even more worthy of mention, however, is Kenny and Rico’s chemistry, as they constantly joke around with one another while nonchalantly creating a banger. That said, Kenny Beats and Rico Nasty is like if Michael Jordan and LeBron James were on the same team, so I wouldn’t sleep on the heat they have coming. If this episode of “The Cave” is any indicator, Anger Management is about to be one hell of a project.
