Our 50 Favorite Joey Bada$$ Songs

Every once in a blue moon, an artist will come by in hip-hop that bridges the ever-dividing gap between the new and the old – someone who embodies the best of both, and someone that everyone can agree on. Joey Bada$$ and the Pro Era crew were just that when they first came out. Employing a 90s-influenced style and a classic aesthetic that inspired a generation of artists in New York and beyond, Pro Era had the technical skill and “pure hip-hop” lyricism that one would expect from a 90s act, while they also possessed a sense for style, sound, and group comradery that resonated with current-day listeners. It was an incredible marriage of innovation and influence that came from a crew of artists talented and wise beyond their years, spearheaded by none other than Joey Bada$$: an artist now with several undeniable classics to his name, all the way from pure-as-it-gets hip-hop tracks to high-flying, radio-ready anthems. Frankly, Joey Bada$$ has done it all, and his still-growing contributions to hip-hop – aesthetically, lyrically, sonically, and otherwise – are not to be underestimated. Not often do we get a talent of Joey’s caliber that fans of any age can get behind, …

Waiting For You – [Kelechi]

Atlanta artist Kelechi is someone who I have been a huge fan of for a minute now, and if you ask me from the outside looking in, he has been having the best year of his career the past 12 months, and today he is back on our website with his brand new track titled “Waiting For You”. Kelechi is one of the most versatile artists in the game, you just never know what sounds he’s going to master next, he’s a skilled lyricist + makes ear-pleasing melodies and that only helps him be able to create any type of song. I am expecting Kelechi to continue to get better and better as he sharpens his skills, be on the lookout for him, he’s capable to blow up at any minute. I could go on and on about this release but I feel like Kelechi put it in better words himself than I ever could, adding: I’m 1st generation Nigerian American and “Waiting For You” marks my 1st time making an African influenced song & it was the easiest song I’ve ever made. Shortly after recording it, I got the opportunity to join Jidenna’s 85 To Africa Tour & saw …

Smino: Still Building

Photo by Pooneh Ghana / Red Bull Content Pool On November 23rd, coordinated by Red Bull Music Festival, Smino played for a sold-out crowd at Thalia Hall in Chicago. A few days prior, he was nominated for his first Grammy Award in light of his contributions to the renowned Revenge of the Dreamers III. A few months before that, Smino offered a standout performance on Chance The Rapper’s highly-anticipated album, The Big Day. And before that, the St. Louis mainstay embarked on the 33-stop Hoopti Tour, directly after releasing his critically-acclaimed album, NOIR.  2019 has been busy for Smino. And tiring, probably. But on November 23rd, the wear and tear of a restless year, bounded by success, refused to be seen. Entering the stage with the same effortless cool that swept across his introductory album, blkswn, Smino won the night before it even started. The show was just a victory lap. You see, at one point in his life, Smino moved from St. Louis to Chicago without a dime. He slept on the floor of a cramped recording booth, convinced that at some point or another, Plan A would pay off. In front of an exhilarated Thalia Hall, I was …

PARTY BUTTER – [Josh Mac]

Making his Lyrical Lemonade debut today, New Zealand native and rising star Josh Mac drops off his incredible, energetic collection titled PARTY BUTTER. After finishing his degree in Musical Arts and winning many awards, Josh went on to release his first few singles. To say the least, they began to grow quickly and would eventually land on some of the top radio stations in New Zealand. Although it was released a few months ago, PARTY BUTTER is one of my new favorites and is a must-listen. When I spoke to Josh, he stated that PARTY BUTTER is a “very fun, personal, feel good, and emotional collection of songs that birthed what people now know as Josh Mac.” He then added that “these songs are relatable and others will enjoy the fresh, new vibes.” From a fan perspective, Josh executed this project with ease; smoothly keeping the branding and creative direction very cohesive and easy to recognize. On another note, Josh noted that he is currently working on a whole collection of new songs to release once he has an EP or two that he’s happy with. Be sure to get familiar with Josh Mac by streaming PARTY BUTTER below and by …

The Next Wave Of Emerging R&B Artists

Post By: Lee Mcintosh Although Hip-Hop/Rap is amongst the most popular and impactful genre of music in the world, R&B is not that far behind. There are lots of Rap artists who teeter the lines of Rap and R&B–whether that be from the composition of the music, the lyrical content, or even just the way the lyrics soothe over the track. Ever so often, it can be difficult to decipher if an artist is in fact a rapper or a singer. Artists such as Bryson Tiller, 6LACK and Sy Ari Da Kid are amongst the best to master the art of both genres. Singing over rap beats, or rapping over singing beats–that just shows the amount of influence that R&B has on the culture today. Often so, Hip-Hop delivers a new wave of emerging artists every few years or so. The R&B world once did not operate on that fast of a time schedule–usually only bringing in the new “it” singer every 5 years or so. In the new digital/social media era, the rate at which new R&B artists transpire is almost as often as the rappers. Here at Lyrical Lemonade, we are most known for our coverage in Hip-Hop, …

Hit – [Kenny Mason]

It’s been a long 18 months since Atlanta emcee Kenny Mason has dropped new music. Last night the wait came to an end as Kenny released a brand new single entitled “Hit.” If you’ve immersed yourself in the life of the music industry there’s the certain artist you just hear people talk about before they even release new music or music in general. One of the last artists I heard this much industry buzz about before they dropped was Dominic Fike before he dropped his ‘Don’t Forget About Me Demos’ project. After listening to “Hit” and snippets such as “HIGH” and “FIRESTARTER it’s easy to see why everyone has been so excited about Kenny starting to roll out new music. Mason is able to flash a unique skill set of various flows throughout “Hit” that should keep listeners entertained. After he has a couple of projects under his belt I can see Kenny Mason breaking out similar to how fellow Atlanta emcee JID has done recently. Stream Kenny Mason’s new offering “Hit” for yourself after the break. Produced by Julien Earle

Revenge Of The Dreamers III – [Dreamville]

The moment we’ve all been waiting for since January is here, J.Cole and his Dreamville posse have dropped their highly anticipated compilation album Revenge Of The Dreamers III. 2019 has been a huge year for Cole and it seems him and all of Dreamville is going to be on our necks all year. This album is the final product from the mythical and legendary Dreamville sessions that took place in Atlanta, Georgia back in mid-January. Even though I’ve only been through the project twice so far you can tell the energy in these rooms were special. It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite track this early on but they’re a lot of people and moments that stood out to me. Some of the MVP’s of the album from my perspective were JID, EarthGang, Buddy, Guapdad 4000, Lute and Yung Nudy. A couple of songs that I found myself gravitating to this early on were “Under The Sun”, “1993”, “Self Love”, “Sunset” and the standout single “Down Bad.” The Dreamville troop were successful in trying to mix and match different styles and talent and weave and integrate them together to create which is probably their best album in the …

Past Tense – [Mulherin]

Finding new and fresh music is what we pride ourselves on here at Lyrical Lemonade. Today, it is my pleasure to introduce you all to Patrick and Marshall Mulherin, who make up the R&B duo, Mulherin. Their music popped up on my spotify discover weekly playlist a while back and I have been hooked ever since. There are a lot of great artists making great strides in this industry and Mulherin should definitely be on your radar. Last year, the brothers dropped an album that is filled with amazing ballads, but one of my favorites is their song entitled “Past Tense”. The track truly speaks for itself. Marshall and Patricks’ smooth vocals take over the song and create a beautiful ambience that is extremely infectious. From a production standpoint, there’s really nothing more you can ask for. The seamless beat structure paired with the creative instrumental inclusion adds so much depth to this overall masterpiece.  Theres not much more I can say without spoiling the song, so go click on the link below and let us know what you think! If you’re a fan of Mulherin, make sure to follow them on their social media pages here and here.
