D-LOW – [ITSOKTOCRY] & [Koto.]

I owe a whole lot to various artists who never shy away from a challenge, bringing innovation and artistry to the forefront of their music regardless of the judgment that haters may feel the need to share with them, usually on the internet. These fearless tastemakers are the reason why up-and-comers can be open to any style that helps them stand out and feel confident in their music without the fear of arbitrary opinions or subjective trolls. ITSOKTOCRY is one of the first emcees I go to when I get bored of everything else (which seems to happen quite often, to be honest), and he never fails to deliver exactly the kind of imaginative music that I crave after hearing so much monotony from time to time. I’ve been a huge fan for years, even before I got the chance to chop it up with him on social media, and seeing just how much confidence he exudes as well as the belief he has in his art helps illuminate his experimental nature and clarify why he’s not even close to afraid to take risks. When I saw that he posted a snippet of his brand-new song “D-LOW” on Instagram earlier …

Thriller – [ITSOKTOCRY] & [demxntia]

I have to credit so many people for broadening my horizons and helping me realize the fact that music doesn’t have to be “normal” in order for it to be enjoyable or good. In fact, as the years have gone on and more and more imitators have given a crack at making music, I tend to even prefer more obscure, forward-thinking music over the stereotypical rap song that has a boom-bap beat and a standard flow. Although there are plenty of artists who have proven that atypical is best, I think the one person who has shown me this more than anyone is ITSOKTOCRY. CRY not only pretty much helped pioneer a subgenre that is now classified as hyperpop, but he is also someone who seems to get more creative and artistic as his career continues and he keeps on thriving. I mean, he is probably the one person I can think of, other than Young Thug, who makes you feel like an entire group of emcees are spitting on a song with the various voices he is able to naturally incorporate into a singular track, and his latest song “Thriller” with demxntia is no different, while being completely different, …

OH NAH OH NAH – [93FEETOFSMOKE] ft. [Kamiyada+]

Music is full of characters, personalities, and an innumerable number of individuals who are unapologetically themselves, and I am forever grateful for the ones who stay true to who they are rather than trying to switch things up in order to follow certain trends or fit into certain borders. I feel like there are certain types of music or subgenres that definitely are better at this than others, and even though it can be hard to describe exactly what kind of music 93FEETOFSMOKE makes due to his sheer skill set and versatility, he never conforms just because that’s what others do. I’ve become the most familiar with his work on certain tracks with artists like ITSOKTOCRY, Shinigami, LiL Lotus, and Savage Ga$p, among others, but I have been wanting to catch up even more considering I’ve enjoyed these offerings so much, so I was thrilled to see that he dropped a brand-new self/Aaron Osborne-produced track with Kamiyada+ called “OH NAH OH NAH”. Of course, the music video that was directed by both 93 himself and phvzes is unbelievable as they take a small function and turn it into an all-out rager, but the song became stuck deep in my head …

F.A.O – [ITSOKTOCRY] ft. [Surf]

ITSOKTOCRY is one of the most unique and innovative emcees in the entire industry, and if that’s something you disagree with, then you clearly have some catching up to do in terms of educating yourself on his career. While he has long been one of my favorite artists out, he never fails to impress me when he drops something new, and even though we haven’t received nearly as much of an overflow of music as we have from him in previous years, that just makes his drops that much more special. GWEN STACY 4EVER was an absolutely outstanding project, and while I tended to lean towards certain tracks over others at times, I was blown away with the deluxe version CRY dropped a few days ago which added 7 new songs to the instant classic. While these new tracks were amazing, I was thrilled to see him drop an animated visual for his cvtus-produced song “F.A.O” with Surf, because for me, this has been played on repeat for literally weeks on end. In the BADPITBOI-directed motion picture, there is this extremely enthralling style of animation that basically opens up in a city that is being tormented by a creature that …

I Met God Online – [grandma]

If you’re at all tapped in with the hyperpop community, then grandma shouldn’t be someone that you’re unfamiliar with. He has been crafting some of the most unique and constantly enthralling sounds in the entire underground music scene, but it seems like he doesn’t quite get nearly enough credit for the impact he has made on the music business. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t actually had a solo release in just about two years, or maybe it’s because people aren’t ready for the splash that he is making, but either way, I am not afraid to say that he is one of my favorite musicians in the current state of music. His diversity is seriously so underappreciated, and although I was introduced to him through artists like ericdoa, Tony Velour, and ITSOKTOCRY who are traditionally labeled as hyperpop emcees, grandma transcends this label by far, and I think that more people need to start giving him the credit that he deserves. Bending genres is his forte, and although we waited a few years for new individual music from the Atlanta representative, his brand-new self-produced song with some assistance from Lars Stalfors and Johan Lenox entitled “I Met God Online” was …

GWEN STACY 4EVER – [ITSOKTOCRY]

ITSOKTOCRY is one of the most captivating artists in the entire music industry, and if you don’t believe me, just check out any of his countless songs and tell me you disagree, because I’d tell you that you’re factually incorrect. The way he is able to manipulate his voice is unheard of and can’t be compared to anyone else in the entire music scene, and the instrumentals he uses always keep you on your toes because you have no clue what kind of sounds to expect prior to listening in. He is grossly underrated, in my opinion, but his fans know just how special of a talent he is, and I won’t be quick to let that point go by the wayside because he’s just making music in his own lane, and no one else is even close to catching up to him. After a lot of hype was built up around his album GWEN STACY 4EVER over the past few months, the day has finally come, and after tuning in, I can say with the utmost confidence that the wait was well worth it. With 11 songs that add up to just over 25 minutes, this is more than …

ACID RE-FLEX – [ITSOKTOCRY] ft. [SURF]

If you know anything about me and the artists I write about, the more versatile someone can be, the more I’m prone to enjoy their music. I admittedly just have a somewhat short attention span, so if someone keeps putting out the same type of music, I find it hard to continue tuning in because it all tends to ultimately sound the same to me. When it comes to ITSOKTOCRY, you already know this isn’t a worry even in the furthest depths of my brain because he never settles for typical, and each and every song he puts out sounds nothing like any of its predecessors. Whether he’s trying out different voices, flows, instrumental styles, or anything else, he always rotates in something brand-new that we’ve never heard before and this makes me more and more excited to tune into his music. If you’re familiar with the multifaceted Denver talent, you know that he is also working on some sort of animated series which couldn’t be more perfect for him and the many voices he has demonstrated so far, and his two worlds sort of collide in the brand-new music video for his song “ACID RE-FLEX” featuring SURF. In this …

isolation – [Demxntia] ft. [ITSOKTOCRY]

Not too long ago, I was put onto Demxntia’s very versatile discography of music, and even though I still need to do more digging to familiarize myself with the rest of his music, let’s just say that I haven’t heard a miss yet, and that gets me excited for the future of his career. Beyond this, I’ve also come to learn in a short period of time that he’s an all-out workhorse, never taking a minute off but rather grinding day in and day out to deliver a plethora of songs that are all even more creative than the last, so there’s never any shortage of output from the Florida talent. Although he typically spends his time in the studio behind the production decks, he decided to show off some of his vocal skills in his latest song entitled “isolation”, which also features one of my personal favorite artists ITSOKTOCRY. In the beat, there are some toned-down guitar strums combined with some intriguing percussive elements and some booming drums, but when Demxntia comes in as soon as you press play, his vocals just resound in your head as you hear so much passion and emotion going into his delivery. While …

CRYING IN THE CLUB – [Curtains] [ITSOKTOCRY] & [demxntia]

At this point, you’re all probably tired of hearing me talk about ITSOKTOCRY and how much I truly enjoy, respect, and appreciate his diverse catalog of music. He has been one of my favorite underground acts for quite some time, and while that’s never going to change anytime soon, I am always beyond stoked to find out he is dropping new music. Oftentimes, it’s a simple tweet or Instagram post the night before saying that he’s got something new for us the following day, and once I see these things, I can’t sleep because I’m just too excited. Right before the weekend, I saw the tweet, and when I heard the final outcome, I was left speechless once again. The song is called “CRYING IN THE CLUB” and features a singer by the name of demxntia who I didn’t know before this, but I’m sure glad I know about now. I also believe it’s produced by the legendary producer Curtains who brings an all-out party to your speakers with a completely thumping bassline that is accented by some plucky synths that switch up a few times throughout, and a very club-like vibe that makes it impossible for you to not …

DETACHED – [Austin Skinner]

I love the underground music scene because once I find out about one artist, they almost always lead me to an entire world of new talents that I might’ve never found out about had I not known about the initial artist in the first place. It almost feels like a constantly growing tree, and the more branches I venture out into, the more unbelievable talent I discover, which I have turned into a mission of mine to put as many people on to these unbelievably skilled individuals as I can. Austin Skinner is definitely one of these artists, and while I was put onto him after his work with BIGBABYGUCCI and ITSOKTOCRY, I was fully engrossed in the sonic world he was creating. Not only that, but he has also introduced me to countless other artists he has worked with in the past as well which helps me continue branching out and diversifying my musical taste. While I don’t think Austin can do any wrong whatsoever, he continues his hot streak with his brand0new album DETACHED, and after I realized it released, I stopped everything I was doing and tuned in. When I saw him hyping it up for the …
