Aura – [Blxty]

One of the most impressive aspects that the next wave of pop music comes to flaunt in a number of its equally impressive artists is the act of turning ethereal and atmospheric stylistics into digestible, appealing offerings with their respective pop sensibilities. This fact is being showcased by acts who take that sense of atmosphere from an instrumental basis – what with its reverberated and ambient tones – and apply their vocals directly atop it while still keeping a sense of rhythm, and an infectious one at that.  Among the absolute best individuals who have come to master this unique and nuanced approach is Blxty — as the Helix Tears and NoHeart progenitor has effectively delivered track after track that sounds just as spacious as it does down to earth and comprehensive as pop songs in their own right.  For a brief, yet completely ideal peer into how exactly they come to deliver with this method, look no further than their latest release entitled “Aura.”  They present their unmatched style over a beat that suits them incredibly well; both Odel and Elias crafted a completely fitting ballad here with its controlled, yet soaring and glistening demeanor acting as a perfect …

Secrets – [Midwxst]

One of the most telling signs of prolonged superstardom as a rising act in any given music scene is when that very artist successfully comes through with a full-length project that exemplifies all that they have worked towards leading up to said project in itself. It is a true moment of self-fulfillment — one that practically any iconic artist can say they have experienced at a single point in their career.  Accomplishing that feat is certainly one thing on its own, but we’re talking about something of a different story when that very project exudes nothing else but pure passion and creative integrity as a result of all of this work put in. Not only does this sentiment work to elevate the aforementioned concept, but it also makes the sheer quality of whatever project being discussed that much greater in the process. While it is quite clear that 17-year-old pop prodigy Midwxst infuses this exact sense of passion into literally every single track he comes through with, he has successfully gone above and beyond to achieve all that these previous descriptions have to offer in such graceful fashion with his debut album Secrets.  Over the length of 9 exceptional tracks, …

2nd Chances – [Dolly]

It may sound presumptive to say, but there is truly no one working as diligently and as prolifically as Dolly is at this very moment within not just the rising next wave of pop music, but practically also within the grander music landscape as a whole. There is no hyperbole in those statements whatsoever, and if that fails to speak to this once-in-a-generation type talent, then nothing else will.    For those that are able to realize this fact in its fullest and most telling effect, then it is nothing new to point out how Dolly is able to take on essentially any sound she pleases while placing her own spin on whatever that may be — with the results always coming out as an utterly of its own sound that only she could ever lay claim to.   These facts are yet again put on full display with her latest release via the Helix Tears collective entitled “2nd Chances” — a track that is nothing short of a brief, yet ridiculously gripping offering that once again proves that Dolly can do anything and everything she wants and only see magic coming out as the end product.    Though this …

Tell Me – [Helix Tears]

As if this fact could ever be lost within the rising cast of talent that make up the next era of pop music, the essence of collaboration as it currently stands between them is alive, well, and thriving at arguably its highest level yet in regards to their musicianship. And though this is certainly the case among these figures on a singular level, it makes it that much more clear when they join their various collectives up for a resounding cypher on occasion.    Though these moments were all-too-rare at one point, they have seen their frequency rise as each and every collective begins to find their footing in the scene. And no collective has their footing as stable and as secured among them than Blackwinterwells’s very own Helix Tears — who has just rounded up acts from the likes of Gooncity, NoHeart, Novagang, and plenty more for their newest lengthy cut entitled “Tell Me.”   15 different artists align this absolute mammoth of a feature list, and they are all held in ideal symmetry and with perfect care by the outstanding work on production from two of the most in-demand producers in the scene itself: Delto and Angelus. The …

Dirt – [Grandee]

As the grander state of pop music further extends its boundaries into the unconventional, acts under this genre are beginning to not only take advantage of this benefit but push it to even higher and unseen levels.  The most prominent figures amongst the contemporary pop landscape are exhibiting this with each and every track they release, and there’s no better example of that sentiment being put in motion than the work of Helix Tears’ own Grandee, who has just followed up their recent string of outstanding singles with one that convincingly tops them all in “Dirt.” Illustrating that aforementioned forward-thinking notion to an absolute tee, Grandee has delivered a track that works just as well as a tried and true modern pop track as a wholly different and off-putting piece of experimental electronica. But together these two aspects essentially make for an experience unlike anything else being released at this moment within this very scene.  At the forefront of the track are Grandee’s superbly soothing vocals that practically embody and encapsulate the song’s atmosphere on their own — an obvious commonality when placed up against the rest of their discography. Where “Dirt” elevates itself in this regard however is through …

Among Us – [Noki]

Arguably the biggest catalyst that continues to drive the rising underground pop scene towards the mainstream is the strikingly apparent sense of community and collaboration that each act within the scene itself shares. Though this concept is carried out on a single artist-to-artist basis, it is better – and exceptionally at that – displayed through the countless amounts of collectives that exist within the community — practically uniting these artists even more than they would’ve been on their own in the process.    That sentiment is exactly what prominent scene figure Noki wanted to illustrate on their latest track “Among Us” — a 7-minute cypher that unites artists from a variety of collectives onto what can only be described as an absolute mammoth of a single.    Though Noki is simply a tried and true member of one of the present collectives Helix Tears, they were also able to compile the likes of Bloodhounds, Novagang, SlowSilver03, NoHeart, and Gooncity to fully complete both this immense song itself and that aforementioned illustrating of the scene and its emphasis on collaboration.    With the amount of talent on this track from the outset, there is simply no way for it to become …

Blackwinterwells: Doing Absolutely Everything, And Then Some

Article by Billy Bugara As both the newest era of SoundCloud-centric music and the next wave of pop that is being brought with it continue to grow in prominence by the day, its most noted artists are beginning to see themselves falling into somewhat distinct roles compared to their contemporaries. From the scene’s leading and most popular acts like osquinn, glaive, and Alice Gas, to the burgeoning collectives waiting to see their immense cast of talent all reach the same level, the genre is not only vast in sheer numbers alone, but in quality and notoriety all the same. Though most of these acts have found the importance of creating and developing one singular name and role for themselves and marketing themselves as such, others have proven that this movement houses far more ways of making your creative outlook known while still finding and securing a distinct role – or multiple roles in this case – within the scene as it stands. And no single artist has put this sentiment in motion more than blackwinterwells — arguably the scene’s most dynamic, passionate, and simply remarkable export thus far. blackwinterwells · IRIS Blackwinterwells is the most prominent alias of a 24-year-old …
