i wanna slam my head against the wall – [glaive]

Although I’m relatively new to the world of Hyperpop, it has pretty much ruled my world for the past couple of months. My brother put me onto some unbelievably talented artists, to begin with, and I’ve kind of diverged onto my own path where I’ve come across some of the most wildly underrated artists in the entire music scene. Out of all these talents, glaive is an artist that I legitimately haven’t heard a bad song from. In fact, I don’t think he could put out a bad song if he tried, and this has turned him into not only one of my favorite acts in Hyperpop but one of my favorite artists in the entire music landscape. Earlier today, he decided to release a track entitled “i wanna slam my head against the wall”, which he had previously teased in a snippet on Instagram and I couldn’t be more excited. Produced by a slew of talented hitmakers including Glasear, Kid Icarus, cashheart, Whethan, and youngkimj, they incorporate a variety of sounds lead by a heartfelt guitar melody, some crisp hats and claps, and some smooth bass drums that are taken to new levels throughout the hook as Hyperpop tracks …

All The Time – [AViT] x [d0llywood1]

Though the following statement may sound bizarre to those not yet in the know, the best pop music being made today is coming from paired acts who’s styles differ quite immensely. Today’s alternative pop landscape is less defined by acts who are clinging to tradition, and more so defined by the ones who are doing the absolute most to turn the furthest thing from “traditional” into the norm. Despite their signature styles differing in a variety of ways, that exact sentiment is at least shared in full by both AViT and d0llywood1. These are two of pop music’s most promising rising talents, and it only makes sense that they would attempt to make their styles clash in the most artful manner imaginable. Knowing the unmistakably rich talents that these two both have in their own respective manners, just the prospect of a collaborative effort between them would be enough to solidify it as being incredible.  But if that is not enough, the music does enough to speak on its own — for their track together entitled “All The Time” is a brilliant pop offering that represents everything great about pop music’s collaborative-based current state. These two take that idea to …

cloak n dagger – [glaive] x [ericdoa]

The dawn of a new era for any sort of scene and/or genre has historically been marked by two or more like-minded artists coming together to cement it in stone. These events are certainly rare, but absolutely fascinating to observe as they occur. But even with that being said, no one can truly emphasize the magnitude of an event like this happening to a genre as all-encompassing as the grander state of pop music as a whole. Believe it or not, that event is beginning to take shape before our very eyes; and who better to fully realize this moment than pop music’s two faces of the future in glaive and ericdoa. These two have fostered a relationship that begins at just being genuine friends by themselves, and ends with the two coming together to shift the paradigm of pop music moving into the future. It is a once-in-a-lifetime type of chemistry, and one that without question should be noted as being as monumental as it is.  Right as these two were placed on the cover of Spotify’s wholly influential hyperpop playlist, they dropped a collaborative single entitled “cloak n dagger” along with an accompanying video. This moment represents a …

Fiction – [Jiccjucc]

Despite how openly experimental and free-forming the online music world is to each of its artists, having success within it simply comes down to effectively embracing the unique individual qualities that exist within each of these acts by themselves. Whether comes about via the most abrasive sounds imaginable or through clean-cut and straightforward deliveries, making the absolute most out of what one does best will always grant them a spot in the limelight.  It took some time before an artist like Jiccjucc was able to fulfill this niche. The Atlanta talent spent the majority of 2020 going from sound to sound and style to style, all with quite the large amount of acclaim for their place in the scene, but never honing in on one signature approach that would take them to the next step. But with a new year and corresponding new horizons now in his hands, he has taken it upon himself to deliver a statement piece that finally draws a mark on what makes him special as an individual artist. That statement comes in the form of his debut EP “Fiction” — a 4-track project that does nothing else but cement his place as one of the …

Shaping the Sound of COA

There is no single album that quite matches the level of influence at a forward-thinking level in the realms of pop music this year than ericdoa’s COA. Being the most prominent instance of this coming paradigm shift for the genre, the all-encompassing impact that this album has as it stands today will ring true for the months and years to come as we enter this brand new era. Of course this status mostly results from the album’s star figure in Eric himself; not a single soul could possibly ignore the masterwork that he put in throughout each and every track without a single miss in sight. His energy was enigmatic; his delivery was entrancing; and his overall musicianship was exuberant and ever-so-perfected as he truly came into his own element as the tried and true pop phenom he was destined to be. But even Eric could only do so much on his end as a singular presence on the mic. The setting that surrounded him – both physically and inside the music as it came to be – played integral roles in crafting what would end up being this impactful and momentous musical experience. Simply put, if Eric was not …

Problem – [Delto] x [ericdoa]

One aspect that seems to get lost in the minds of those who are not as accustomed to the rising crop of new-age pop musicians is that they do indeed have quite the telling amount of traditional “pop appeal” in their music despite its progressive tendencies. Acts in this light are simply taking the tried and true stylistics of past eras in the genre and are applying them to these unfounded lanes moving forward — lanes that they themselves are creating in the process. For just about the greatest and most vivid picture of this sentiment in full effect, look no further than the tandem of Delto and ericdoa — two artists who entirely encapsulate the simplest idea of pop music down to its most basic facets, but placed directly in this new and progressing age. While Delto has shined mostly through her remarkably prolific production presence throughout this year, she is beginning to make a name for herself on the mic as well in that exact same light. There is little left to even mention regarding ericdoa’s mark on the pop world in his own right,  considering that he is essentially the spitting image of tomorrow’s superstar talent at …

Tic Tac Toe – [Kaixan]

Though the present intersection between hip-hop and pop exists within quite a wide variety of modern sounds and styles alike, its most vivid representation is most likely seen through the ever-prolific acts that make up grander online music space as a whole. The best artists within that very space are taking advantage of this fact and are utilizing it to their highest level possible, crafting appealing and moving tracks that still have a level of flow, intensity, and directness to them. Amongst each and every artist that is expertly communicating that notion in full effect is Kaixan — without question one of the most integral acts that is keeping this dynamic spirit alive within their music through each and every single offering they have in store. The eminent Graveem1nd member has proven to master both the art of tried and true modern hip-hop while simultaneously displaying their pop prowess on each successful single that they drop, culminating recently in the incredibly delivered “Tic Tac Toe.” The single is arguably the most vivid picture that has come to represent how Kaixan has taken their artful sense of both aforementioned genres and applied them both at an unmatched and unprecedented level. This …

SLiiDE – [SEBii] x [ericdoa]

Music stands out in such a tellingly unique manner when a perceived sense of chemistry between two or more artists can be identified. Not only is the working relationship on the song itself as strong as ever in the process, but this fact becomes that much more abundantly clear when the given artists build off of each other on the track throughout its entirety — creating an atmosphere only reserved for occasions like these.    In saying this, the bond shared by the 5 individuals who come together on pop music phenom SEBii’s latest single “SLiiDE” is unmatched in its vivid sense of comradery and comfort between each other, as SEBii himself is joined by fellow pop standout ericdoa on the mic here, with the duo’s frequent collaborators Glasear, Kimj, and vvspipes all on production collectively.    The song certainly has an incredibly distinct aura about it as a result of these 5 close friends all joining together to make a resounding and simply momentous experience with their ever-so-apparent talents shining through as they do here. Put simply, each and every individual’s most defining attributes are on their fullest display here, and in the process, a magnificent pop offering comes …

Glasear: An Untapped Life Behind The Boards

A telling concept that speaks volumes about the current state of modern music is discreetly defining what one stands for, portrays themselves as, or simply what their title represents as a singular entity — a singular artist. These things not only display what an act’s role is within whatever landscape they find themselves in, but as one delves deeper and deeper into how the nuance of these concepts, the more and more is revealed regarding exactly how their status reflects the type of music they make, and in the medium(s) they make it in.   To say that a now-incredibly influential figure in contemporary underground music like Glasear has quite a lot to exemplify as far as his own status is concerned would be an understatement unlike any single one heard before. On the outset, he is simply an 18-year-old producer out of Atlanta that has come to pave ways for a rising new world of production over the last few years, right alongside his numerous contemporaries in the equally influential Neliaworld collective.   Seeing him from this particular spectacle has become enough on its own for people to recognize his weight over the grander underground music scene that he …

4am: A Prodigy Waiting To Take Off

A consistent trend throughout almost the entirety of music history it seems is the fact that the people behind the boards fail to get the recognition they so clearly deserve from the grander masses, at least compared to the musicians they produce for. The amount of passion, fortitude, and sheer dedication to their craft is something that often goes unnoticed for quite the large majority of producers as it stands — even the biggest and most prolific of them see this issue affecting them for years on end.   To say that 4am – an artist/producer out of Arizona – has laid claim to this exact sentiment throughout essentially his entire career is a complete and utter understatement; this absolute gem of a superstar has been essentially carrying a great deal of the upcoming next era of pop music on his back as far as production is concerned. Though figures like Blackwinterwells, Glasear, and Dolly among many others see their frequent ventures into production acclaimed and allotted for both its quality and/or quantity, 4am has not been categorized with them as much as he really should be in the process.   Through that aforementioned spirit shining through in his remarkable …
