Better Float – [Highway] & [Xjay]

The pacific northwest region of the country might not necessarily be commonly known as a place that breeds talented hip-hop artists, but if you give any city in the world enough of a chance, you’re bound to find musicians who are seriously skilled and deserve as much attention as other celebrated cities are used to receiving. A few years ago, Seattle’s Lil Mosey took the scene by storm with his bubbly, easygoing personality and beyond catchy songs. Even though his buzz may have calmed down a bit since, Portland’s Yeat was undeniably one of the biggest success stories over the past year or two, and he is only continuing to rise up the ranks of the industry. Although these are just two names out of countless artists, one person who I have had on my radar for a handful of months is Highway, another Seattle bred emcee who is trying to make a case as to why he deserves a spot at the table, and after a few unignorable moves throughout his young career already including work with producers like Jetsonmade, Nick Mira, and many more, and this is only the beginning of what is sure to be an eye-opening …

The Talk – [Chief Keef]

Whether you’re looking at the history of modern-day music in Chicago or music throughout the entire world, Chief Keef is an artist that is simply a legend. While people might hate on him a bit in recent years because of his influx of releases, I think he’s still one of the most creative and inventive musicians in the entire game. Despite his wealth and life on the West Coast ever since leaving Chicago, he still remembers his roots clear as day and makes sure he specifies that he’s not someone to mess with no matter who you think you are. I truly believe Keef still has a ton of unbelievable music in the vault that old Sosa fans would enjoy, yet so many people have just closed their minds to a new age of Keef because it’s not Finally Rich, and that’s just unfortunate for them. Recently, he teamed up with producer Akachi Glo to bring his song “The Talk” to life, and this is a great example of an incredible song that haters are going to miss out on because they’re too busy dwelling in the past to look ahead at the future. As the beat begins, we can …

Count Fast Island – [Highway]

Seattle artist Highway is certainly no stranger to our pages at this point. With a well-developed sense of artistry and a fairly consistent release schedule over the past few months, he’s building out a lane entirely of his own design, and isn’t showing signs of slowing down anytime soon. Today, Highway hits our pages yet again with a brand new song and video entitled “Count Fast Island.” First premiered on OVO Sound Radio last week courtesy of G0HomeRoger, “Count Fast Island” is true to its name, bringing listeners to an island where evocative production, money-minded lyrics, and melodic, malleable deliveries are all that decorate the surroundings. The song itself builds on a plush sonic base, while Highway’s lyrics shift between reflective, focused, and clever with seamless precision. By the sounds of it, Seattle’s own is becoming and more comfortable in his deliveries, and with such a unique voice and creative vision to match, releases like “Count Fast Island” place the rising talent in a fast lane toward success. Add all of this to a colorfully simplistic set of visuals, and the world of Highway reveals itself in a deeply infectious way. “Count Fast Island” is yet another impressive step on the road …
