Teflar – [DC the Don]

In my own honest opinion, if you’re currently an artist who is trying to make it big in the music industry, versatility is your best asset. If you aren’t versatile or adaptive to different beats or situations, then you can pretty much kiss your dreams of fame and fortune goodbye because, in the current day and age that’s pretty much run by the internet, people’s attention spans are simply way too short to keep coming back to an emcee who is constantly repeating the same styles and lyrics over and over again. On the other hand, if you are able to use this dexterity to your advantage and figure out a variety of different ways to show off your skills, there’s a good chance you’ll either go viral at some point or attract a loyal fanbase that will ride or die with you until you do officially see your time in the limelight come. DC the Don can be looked at pretty much as the posterchild for diverse styles because he has shown every chance he gets that he can do it all from singing to rapping over a myriad of distinctive instrumentals, and that is highlighted more than ever …

Crunk Is Still Alive With Duke Deuce’s Latest Project ‘Crunkstar’

Duke Deuce is making a new lane in the music industry, and his latest project ‘Crunkstar, is a reflection of how far he has come in a short amount of time. Duke has teased fans with his new album since last year. However, this body of work was well worth the wait. The 20 tracklist features collaborations with Lil Yachty, Babyface Ray, Doe Boy, Rico Nasty, Gloss Up, Slimeroni, Co Cash, Glorilla, and DJ Tootz. The self-proclaimed King Of Crunk also linked up with some of the hottest producers in the game like Metro Boomin, Juicy J, Hitkidd, Pyrex Whippa, Duke Nitty, Allen Ritter, and more. Duke’s new album featured his recent single ‘ CRUNKSTARZ’, one of the best singles I have heard from the Memphis rapper this year. While fans are used to hearing his crunk sound, this song was much smoother and shows how versatile his flow can be. On this album you also hear the melodic intensity of “Animosity” ft Lil Yachty, then there’s the party-banger sound on “Flip Da Switch” ft. Juicy J, and the electric guitar-laden exorcism of “Living Life”.  Just last week, it was announced that Duke will kick off a Crunkstar Tour this Summer! Check …

DJ Tay James Interview: A Prime Example of Staying Down Since Day One

“I can make certain calls and tap in with a certain DJ in another part of the world and know what’s being played over there. I can make calls and ask who the hottest new artist or producer is. I don’t think the DJ role will never be obsolete because an algorithm can’t think like a DJ.” -DJ Tay James Since it’s inception, the art of being a DJ has been something that has always been fascinating to watch. Coming from the old days of having to own actual vinyl records, and then transitioning to an all-digital deck, it’s been amazing to see how many DJs actually move along with the times and are able to master a new craft, when their old ways are shifting away. One could argue that the job of a DJ is one of the more important roles in the music business. At a party or event, it’s the DJs job to control the mood and the overall vibes, and listening to the crowd’s visual cues and body language is key. For DJ Tay James, he’s been able to maneuver through many avenues and kept up with the times for many years, and he is …

Set The Tone (EP) – [HitKidd] [K Carbon] [Aleza] [Gloss Up] [Slimeroni] [Glorilla]

Old-school Memphis rap has been a fascination of mainstream music for the better part of a decade now, as just about nearly every single major and underground act out now can somehow track their musical lineage back to the early-Three-Six days when triplet flows were first established by Lord Infamous and percussion patterns were revolutionized by the Memphis DJ’s who had literally no fancy equipment but still forever changed how rap music sounds. I am not exaggerating at all when I say that Memphis is by far the most influential city in the history of music (and really the entire Delta if we want to name a whole region) and as Memphis continues to spit out massive mainstream rappers some of his heritage and DIY-essence was lost as big-budgets and Billboard hits transformed the scene into a totally different animal. However one man, in my opinion, continues to approach the industry and creative process with this particular Memphis heritage in mind, and was evidenced greatly by his work with Duke Deuce, but is perhaps most apparent with his new project SET THE TONE alongside five of Memphis’s most exciting new female talents, creating a series of memorable posse-cut tracks where each girl …

A Conversation with DJ Premier: One Of The Best Yet

DJ Premier is a pioneer of hip-hop and an absolute living legend, he has accomplished an astonishing amount in his career and just about a month ago he released his latest masterpiece, a brand new Gang Starr album titled One Of The Best Yet. I grew up a huge fan of Gang Starr in my adolescent years as I am sure many of the people reading this did as well, so when I first head about this new album I was in complete shock, partially because their last album prior to this came out way back in 2003 and also because it has been nearly a decade since the passing of the legendary emcee Guru who made up of one half of the group. This was the first time in his career that DJ Premier had to piece together an album without Guru by his side helping him compose it, he had previously recorded verses that we anywhere from 10-20 years old and he somehow managed to craft it into a tremendous + memorable body of work. Needless to say, when I got the opportunity to interview one of my idols and someone who I have studied like DJ Premier, …

Wide Awake – [Kiraly]

Kiraly is one of my favorite artists coming out of Chicago, but that’s no secret at this point, I have said that again and again. Today he is finding himself back on our platform with his brand new song titled “Wide Awake”, a DJ Kidd produced hit that is looking to be his first big step into 2018. Usually when i think of Kiraly’s music, I think of punch line bars,  memorable rhymes & even some great melodies, but shit is man can sing too! I expect a lot from Kiraly this year, I am excited to see where he goes from here, stream this new joint below!
