The Old Lil Kim – [BoofPaxkMooky]

North Carolina based artist BoofPaxkMooky has had a wildly impressive and prolific run over the past year and change and is helping usher in the modern plugg-music genre at the forefront of the scene, pairing up with CashCache and a host of other producers who are the main architects of this new sound, and even attempting to push boundaries on the production front as he did alongside GRiMM Doza on the duo’s recent mixtape I Get High For Days that was met with both critical and collective support from the underground community. He collided with the production trio of Hoshi, Marco, and Bvsu for his new track “The Old Lil Kim” where he croons over an exceptionally odd but still bubbly in a distorted and sedated manner.

I Guess I Am Toxic – [Shaudy Kash]

I first got hip to Detroit, Michigan’s Shaudy Kash a little over a year ago completely by chance as ripped audio of his Top$ide produced track “Showed Them N*ggas” populated on my SoundCloud shuffle and quite quickly I was taken by first and foremost the stripped back, delicately woozy instrumental that Top$ide cooked up, which reminded me of if someone tried to make a Detroit/CashCache beat, as the drums are sparse and not at all overwhelming. This allows Kash to get bar after bar off with his nonchalant, conversational delivery and his lyrics clearly show that he has a ton of knowledge and maturity in general that Detroit’s sarcastic and threatening rap scene oftentimes brushes to the wayside. Kash is able to communicate his deepest feelings, thoughts of ambition, anger, and disappointment in a calm and even-keel manner that stands in stark contrast to the more frenetic pace that his Motor City contemporaries rap at. In his new visual “I Guess I Am Toxic” he breaks down a struggling relationship where he comes to realize that he and his partner are the very definition of ‘toxic’ that is so ubiquitously nowadays used but at the same time is ubiquitously practiced …

Gemini – [Flipphoneswhty] [Nerdcoke]

Recently I covered Alabama artist Jayboe who has been making a name for himself in his in many ways great but obviously out of touch state making plugg-music and other underground stylings and has grinded out a fanbase both in his area as well as all over the internet and another plugg artist who is doing the same thing is Clarksville, TN’s Flipphoneshwty who comes from a place that is lagging very far behind other areas in terms of cultural awareness, especially in music, but nonetheless has managed to make a name for himself in the underground in less than a year, teaming up mainly with CashCache recently who has personally been giving plugg a sort of revival and new more laid-back spin than usual and gotten many hip, and biting, in the process. However today Flip is not assisted by Cash at all on his new EP Gemini with North Carolina producer NerdCoke who, alongside CashCache and fellow NC producer Dylvinci, have helped change plugg music from either a more explicitly trap sound, or poppy and lo-fi such as ‘pluggnb’ to a more dreamy and jazzy sound that still allows artists plenty of room to spaz with whatever flow or tone …

ATL Freestyle – [Tony Shhnow]

Tony Shhnow is a relatively new name to me somehow, yet he has worked with so many different artists that I’ve been following for years, so I’m shocked I haven’t come across his music sooner. While my brother has been raving to me about him for the past few weeks, I finally decided to do some research and found out that his name sounded familiar because of his work with Larry League, CashCache, and 10kDunkin, amongst others, and somehow, I just must’ve been too ignorant to realize the gem I was missing out on. Thankfully, I was able to reintroduce him to me with the release of the brand-new music video for his hit song “ATL Freestyle”, and it was a visual I simply couldn’t pass up. Teaming up with Jelani Miller to shoot this miniature movie, he was able to bring one of his best songs off of last year’s project Black Billionaire Club to life, and the results are pretty unforgettable, to say the least. As it begins, there is a small series of text in the bottom left-hand corner that resembles what old MTV-inspired music videos used to introduce an artist and their song, and the nostalgic …

In Between! – [Fliphoneshwty] [CashCache!]

Clarksville, Tennessee’s Flipphoneshwty is back today with a new visual for his sanguine new plugg-track “In Between!” where Flip skates over Cashcache’s bubbly instrumental with his slightly autotuned vocals and unique flows as he is not shy at all about changing up his cadences, which are all some of my very favorite moments from this song. Flip came together with Noah Stenhouse for the well directed new video that shows off Flip’s charisma, and I am looking forward to hearing him develop his own unique sound more and more as his vocals are already quickly recognizable and his beat selection is first-rate. Keep an eye out for Flipphoneshwty as he continues to make more and more of a name for himself within the plugg-universe track-by-track.

MuddyMya: If It’s Meant To Happen, It Will

Cover Photo By @dumoarles MuddyMya started releasing music a little over a year ago to date without much expectation. In her words, “I just make songs and post them.” Today, the Atlanta native has become a buzzing name in the underground, recently putting out some of her best work to date in the form of “Cashin Out” — a single produced by CashCache and MexikoDro, headed by lyrics including my personal favorite: “Life I never planned it out, but look how things are panning out.” Speaking to Mya, she places large emphasis on the fact that her success thus far has arrived without much expectation – she works at her craft, makes the best music she can make, and lets the universe do the rest. And the universe has certainly been responding. With numerous cultural cosigns to her name, a fast-growing fanbase, and a singular, masked aesthetic, Mya is doing things on her own terms and garnering authentic, well-deserved acclaim for it. No over-stretching herself or asking favors – just genuine support on true-to-self music and a world-building creative vision. 6 months ago, she worked for Target at a job she hated. Today, Mya is fully focused on music, with the …

CASHIN OUT – [MuddyMya] prod. [CashCache] [Mexikodro]

MuddyMya has been creating a wave of her own in the undercurrents of Atlanta’s ‘SoundCloud’ scene if you will and has been building her impeccable brand and aesthetic through a series of stunning visuals and has impressed musically with her gentle, sing-songy flows and top-notch beat selection. She came together with the plugg-father-and-son of Mexikodro and CashCache for a sanguine and upbeat collaboration that was crafted perfectly for Mya to float over, flexing her endless bag of cadences and effortless ability to inflect her vocals with and without the assistance of autotune. I really hope Mya continues to dabble with the plugg-sound and would love to hear at least an EP of her skating over happy plugg beats and even collaborating with more of the artists in Atlanta who are also helping reignite that wave.

Dis Should Hold You Over 2 – [Tony Shhnow] [CashCache]

I think at this point it is safe to say that plugg-music has been revived in a sense as all around America and more and more the world we are starting to see new plugg scenes emerge from scratch as well as seeing more traditional and established artists begin to gravitate to the sound that originally saw popularity in on SoundCloud in 2016 and our nostalgia-heavy music culture has already pushed this style into being paid homage and sonically reformed with new layers and intricacies being added everyday. Mexikodro and StupidXool are the undisputed champions and creators of plugg music but it has been two other names that have dominated plugg’s comeback over the past year and they are Atlanta natives Tony Shhnow and Cashcache! who have respectively been internet rap staples for almost three years now and are beginning to receive the appreciation and support that they have both deserved for some time now. This is their second project together as their acclaimed initial collaboration project Dis Should Hold You Over was met with tremendous support from a wide host of rap’s most respected pundits as well as being praised by all corners of the SoundCloud community, both for …

Stay Strapped, Vol. 1 – [STRAPPED!]

If you’ve been active on SoundCloud over the past few years, chances are at some point you have liked a song from the prolific supplier of underground music STRAPPED! which has faithfully been delivering music to the platform from the SoundCloud scene’s most popular artists to breaking lesser known talent often, giving them a platform full thousands of eager listeners. They recently unveiled their debut mixtape Stay Strapped, Vol. 1 which comprises a great deal of underground favorites as well as some relatively new names a chance to shine and effectively gives a great sampling of the scene, ranging from the glistening melodic atmosphere’s created by BIGBABYGUCCI, to the lyrically dense plugg stylings of Tony Shhnow who is most likely your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper right now, and even down the distorted ‘hyperpop’ side of things that has been surging both on SoundCloud and Tik-Tok for months and even introduces artists who are able to blend these aforementioned genre’s together in a collision of styles which has me very excited for the future of the genre. The project features a number of artists including BIGBABYGUCCI, Stunna Cold, Kcardie, Tony Shhnow, Texako, Destroy Lonely, 10kdunkin, K.Trill, BBKnight, BoofPaxkMooky, and Lil Xelly. …

Spend – [Serane] x [CashCache!]

French rapper Serane has had a particularly viral week on twitter, stemming simultaneously from both a video that went viral in America of one of his recent snippets where he was quickly labeled as the “French Goonew” in what was many people outside of the current underground scene in America’s initial exposure to him where he was met with a lot of love and some hostility, as many were upset at the appropriation of the DMV flow reaching as far as Europe while equally many were flattered that foreigners are showing such immense love to a criminally underrated style. And also, if we had to keep up with every rapper who bites off of Goonew we honestly wouldn’t have many left. Serane also had a polarizing week in the French music blog world, at least from what I could gather from the “translate tweet” button, but it is certainly clear that he is the unquestionable king of French SoundCloud which is a fascinating and quickly growing scene that is bringing plugg-music to Europe. Serane has been working extensively now with Atlanta producer CashCache who has been the sonic backbone in the plugg music renaissance that is building on last decade’s …
