How do you sleep at night? – [Rich Jones] x [Montana Macks]

“I wrote this song in the days following some friends and others being injured by the CPD at a rally downtown [Chicago]. While this wasn’t the first time this had happened last summer, it especially pissed me off following weeks of listening to our mayor bold-faced lie again and again about how these officers had shown professionalism and restraint. What happened to my friends isn’t my story to tell but I’ll just say that restraint and professionalism are not the words I would use in the slightest” — Rich Jones Everyone can agree that 2020 has been one hell of a year, but there are several reasons that contribute to its difficulty. One of these reasons includes the current chaotic social climate, which a majority of politicians have exacerbated through their action or inaction. Chicago artist Rich Jones and producer Montana Macks have both expressed their disgust with current affairs, teaming up to announce their upcoming album How do you sleep At night? (10/30/2020). As a single, Rich & Montana released the title track, which sonically offers dreamy production over Jones’s insightful and weary lyricism. Beyond its philosophical profoundness, the project’s title is a direct question to the aforementioned elected officials committing and …

Sauce ft. Vince Staples – [Reason]

Ahead of his forthcoming album ‘New Beginnings’ which is set to drop on October 9th TDE’s Reason releases another fast-paced single with “Sauce.” People continue to complain and antagonize Punch about releases from the TDE camp, but here we are we’ve gotten releases from SZA, Isiah Rashard, and now we have a Reason album on the way. This Bizness Boi and Nil$ produced single serves as an anthem for anyone who is grinding it out and waiting for their moment to shine. One thing that I respect about this record is that Reason and Vince don’t shy aware from their plight to where they once were to now. Director Omar Jones really details the daily life of Reason between Los Angeles to Carson. The way that theses videos are shot is so appealing to the eye as it reminds me of a fisheye lens and gives me Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas vibes. There’s a good balance between reality and hope which has been somewhat of a staple throughout Reason’s life and his music career. Watch Reason’s new video “Sauce” featuring Vince Staples for yourself after the break.

Watch Femdot’s new interview with Illanoize

Chicago artist femdot has been on a steady upward trajectory for a few years now, he has made his mark as not only one of the hottest artists out of Chicago, but the entire midwest. Femdot recently stopped by Illanoize Radio for a brand new interview that just was released, and it’s a solid conversation that touches on everything that femdot has been up to. You will find Bekoe, Pretty Riot + Illinois Jones asking fem about plenty of topics including his project 94 Camry Music, his Delacreme Scholars program, his ‘slide-by’ program where he delivers free groceries to families in Chicago, how the pandemic has affected him, his live performances and more! The good people at Illanoize have an awesome platform that I strongly believe in, it will be dope to see where they go from here, but in the meantime, check out this new femdot interview below! Luv Me While I’m Here – [Yung Pinch]

Yung Pinch has steadily become one of my favorite artists over the past few years largely due in part to his insane consistency. He’s always taking time to drop off new hits, mini-movies, and even projects of all kinds to appease fans all over the country, and his success has skyrocketed due to this steadiness. Also, because he has released so much music, he has been able to experiment and try out different sounds to see which one ultimately suits him best. Although his feel-good beach boy bangers are typically my go-to tracks for any sort of function I’m at, other more introspective tracks have made their way onto my playlists, and for good reason as well. Most recently, he decided to gift fans with a long-awaited music video for his song “Luv Me While I’m Here”, a cut off of last year’s 4EVERFRIDAY SZN 3 mixtape. Considering there have been so many untimely passings of some of music’s greatest artists especially recently, this song definitely continues to linger and ring true ever since it came out about a year ago. Blithe, airy synths, or flutes of some sort rotate in the background as somewhat toned-down tropical percussive elements and …

A Conversation With Ausar

I have been closely covering the Chicago music scene for just about six years now, and I have had the pleasure of meeting plenty of amazing creatives over the years, but someone who I have been following for a handful of years now is Ausar. The first time that I interviewed Ausar was way back in the fall of 2016, and watching him grow as a person + as an artist since that point has been amazing, to say the least. I wanted to bring Ausar through the new LL office to catch up & record our second interview nearly four years later, so back in June he came by, and today I am ecstatic to finally be releasing the interview! We spoke about several topics such as his upcoming music releases, to performing on Rhythm + Flow, and everything between now & our last conversation. You can read/watch the new interview below, and while you’re at it, listen to some of his music on Spotify! Follow Ausar on Twitter here!   — EM: Last time I interviewed you was 2016, at that time you were pursuing a degree in chemistry. Since then you’ve graduated, how did that college experience …

A Conversation With Ajani Jones

Ajani Jones is someone who I first got familiar with roughly five years ago when he was just a small artist making dope music in the city, since that point, he has grown a tremendous amount as an artist + as a person. He has become one of the top tier young talents that are gaining notoriety in Chicago, he is the kind of artist who makes music that I consider food for thought, he creates with tons of passion + he takes his craft incredibly serious. These qualities are on display whenever he drops a new project or single because, in the handful of years I’ve been listening to him, he hasn’t missed yet. I interviewed Ajani a couple of years ago, but now that I am doing more on-camera interviews here at the Lyrical Lemonade headquarters in Chicago, I wanted to bring him by for another conversation + catch up with him. I had a good time chopping it up with Ajani, it’s the perfect interview to read/watch if you are a fan of him and even if you don’t know his material at all. Listen to some of his music, watch some of these clips + learn …

Reckless-[cam jones.]

My favorite newcomer deserves a lot of recognition and it’s amazing to see that it’s beginning to take shape for him. A couple of weeks back, I wrote about an artist named cam jones.. His song, “No Strings” caught my attention and introduced me to one of the newest faces in the rap game. Ever since then, I’ve been immensely intrigued by his music and patiently waiting to see what he’d drop next. Today on our pages, I’m so hype to bring cam back onto our pages for the release of his brand new single titled, “Reckless”; a track that may have just solidified his presence as an artist who is hear to stay for the long haul.  After creating a respectable following on Tik-Tok and other social media platforms, cam jones. has had the ability to attract a plethora of fans from all over the country. His infectious energy and easy going personality serves a gateway for people to check out his music and once they do, those who listen become instantly hooked. For those who are interested in checking out cam’s music, I highly advise you to check out his latest song called “Reckless”. After this one, I’m …

Z – [Ajani Jones]

A couple of weeks back, I got the opportunity to sit down and chop it up with Chicago native Ajani Jones for an hour or two, it was a great conversation all around but towards the end, he told me he had a new song coming soon. Today, Ajani came through with that promise with his brand new track called “Z”. Ajani is without a doubt one of the best young emcees that Chicago has to offer, and he flexed his lyrical ability on this song, provided us with some stellar verses and an ear-pleasing hook. Listen to this soothing new song below and if you like what you hear, share it with a friend! Also, keep an eye out, because we might be having an interview with Ajani coming out sometime in the near future. Produced by Leale

No Strings-[cam jones.]

A song you NEED to hear today is “No Strings” by California artist, cam jones. If you haven’t heard of cam, then consider today to be your lucky day. I was put onto the up and comer not too long ago and ever since, I haven’t been able to stop listening. The 24-year-old Santa Maria, California native is operating at a level that people need to begin taking notice of and “No Strings” is just the beginning of that much deserved recognition. The offering that dropped a couple of months back is just too good to not feature on our pages today and after listening, ya’ll will definitely feel that way too. “No Strings” is a Hip-Hop track through and through, but it finds its inspiration rooted from the Latin Sphere. The culture combining piece is one that exudes an energy that cannot be denied. Produced by well known producer, ‘Falcons’, this track has everything you’d need in a jam that’s ready for the upcoming summer months. cam also enlisted help from co-producer Cobe Williams and vocalist Jorge Cardenas. The various incorporations take this thing to the next level. “No Strings” is a vibe that you have to check out. …

She Already Decided – [Smino]

Smino is a legend in my book and he is one of my favorite artists that I have listened to over the past decade, and yesterday he gave his massive fanbase a huge blessing with a brand new mixtape titled “She Already Decided”. I didn’t get a chance to listen to the project until today, but from what I was seeing from the feedback from social media and people that I trust, it was all positive so I came into this tape expecting something special. From the moment I pressed play on the first track, Smino had me on the edge of my seat, it set a tone for the tape and Smino didn’t let his foot off of the gas for the entire duration. Smino is so impressive to me in so many ways, but more than anything, the way that he switches his flows is spectacular, he seemingly has hundreds of different flows tucked away ready to go at any time. Those skills were displayed fully on this mixtape, as well as his ability to make great rap records as well as silky smooth R&B cuts, and he played around with the idea that some of his fans …
