Few Good Things: The Short Film – [Saba] & [C.T. Robert]

Although there are too many artists coming out of Chicago to count, I think out of everyone, Saba is truly putting on for this city in a way that would make anyone who calls this place home beyond proud. He has been constantly evolving into new forms with every album he releases, and ever since Few Good Things came out a couple of weeks ago, I haven’t listened to anything else. There isn’t a single moment throughout any song on the album where I feel the need to skip to the next track, and the story that he shares is as captivating as I could ever imagine. I just feel like Saba has the pulse of this city in his hand and he shows a different side of Chicago from a first-person view, sharing some of the heartbreaking events that happen while also highlighting the positives and the things that should be celebrated. While I feel as if Few Good Things was an instant classic, I was even more appreciative of this album once I watched the insanely poignant short film that Saba put together with the legendary award-winning filmmaker C.T. Few people are as important and pivotal as Saba is in the Chicago rap scene, no pun intended. From the very early moments in his career until now, he has changed so many people’s lives with his music, sharing some very tough, introspective moments of his life with his listeners, and this has done so much for so many different fans. Not only this, but he has dealt with so many personal hardships over the last few years, but he doesn’t let these things slow him down, and although they’re things that cause him pain and heartbreak, he perseveres, and that’s one of the most prominent takeaways I have about who he is as a person, not just an artist. Care for Me came out back in 2018 and is still one of my favorite projects of the last decade, but I know he has a lot more to share, so finding out that his third studio album Few Good Things is finally set to release on February 4th of next year, I couldn’t be more ecstatic.
