A Conversation w/ !llmind: Adapting to Current Music Scene, Filipino Culture, Dropping Gems and More

“There’s just so many different sounds and vibes that I fell in love with, and as a creative and curious person, I can’t help but want to make all of them“ -!llmind Give credit where credit is due, and always give people their flowers while they can still smell them. While we often look towards the future and the next hot thing, we can forget about some of the amazing creators that came before us. With Hip-Hop recently celebrating 47 years of existence, it forces us to take a step back and look at where we came from, where we’re at now, and where we are going in the future. If there’s one thing for sure, legendary music producer !llmind has the resume and the work ethic to prove that he is belongs in the past, present, and future of the genre and of the culture, as a whole. !llmind being born in New Jersey puts him very close to New York – the home of Hip Hop itself. As he stands now, he currently has a production credit list that spans over almost two decades worth of material – ranging across various underground artists, well-known legends such as Jay-Z, …

Friday – [Young Nudy]

Business is booming for Young Nudy after the release of his latest project, Slimeball 3, and today, the Atlanta native is here to share visual companion for one of the tape’s standouts, “Friday”. Paying homage to the comedy series by the same name featuring rap legend Ice Cube, the video for this one mirrors a few scenes from the movies while also portraying several of the same characters. Nudy picks all the right faces for all the right roles and consequently, this visual release is one of the most creative of the budding star’s catalog to date. “Friday” was an incredible song from the start, but now with just the right scenes to illustrate it, new life is breathed into this one and it will surely take its spot back at the top of my playlist. Click play on “Friday” at the link below and let us know what you think in the comments! Directed by Inightlyfe, Foolwiththecamera, & Young Nudy Produced by !llmind & Cardiak

I.C.W.N.T – [Future]

Future fans were blessed with not 1, not 2, but 3 full-length projects last year including one of the hottest collab tapes of 2017 in Super Slimey with Young Thug. Now, the modern-day Hendrix has made his return with an absolute banger titled I.C.W.N.T or in simpler terms, I Can’t Wife No Thots, and much like the majority of last years records, it’s an instant ear-grabber. Future’s signature lightspeed delivery was the perfect fit for the menacing instrumental courtesy of TM88 & !llmind, and, after reading the title, you can probably guess what the Atlanta spitter preaches on during the record. With no indications of a forthcoming Future project anytime soon, you’d best not take a loosie like this one for granted. That being said, press play on I.C.W.N.T immediately and let us know which Future album was your favorite from this past year.

Locals – [IshDARR]

IshDARR returns as he drops the official single “Locals” off his upcoming album Broken Hearts and Bankrolls. !llmind did his thing on the instrumental as he comes through with a chill yet hard hitting beat. And of course IshDARR never fails to deliver with a solid hook and great verses. His ability to switch his pace and flow is very impressive for such a young artist. The Milwaukee native has had an impressive year so far, and he’s looking to close it out as strong as possible. Be on the lookout for Broken Hearts and Bankrolls, and take a listen to “Locals” below. words by Ahad Kamran
