Hitting our pages today is an artist who I’m so proud of despite never meeting her. It is always a treat when you encounter music makers who are unapologetically themselves, since the temptation to conform to society’s standards is so prominent. Cassidy King embodies transparency and authenticity and her music is nothing but a cherry on top of the person she is.
Ever since stumbling on the Chardon, Ohio native, I’ve been a fan of her music. I haven’t heard a great pop song in while, but thanks to Cassidy King’s latest offering, “Wasted”, I am no longer able to say that. Garnering inspiration from artists like Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, and Paramore, Cassidy has quickly created an identifiable sound that is uniquely her own. From the humble beginnings of singing in a dorm room stairwell to now being noticed on Spotify’s fresh finds playlist, Cassidy is just reaping the benefits of making the music that represents her. She explains in a quote:
“I don’t have a filter. I’m spontaneous. I’m a goofball. I’m someone who’s always trying to be a better version of who she is. I’m just Cassidy King. What you see is what you get. I try to show listeners vulnerability. They’re not alone. What they’re feeling is valid. I hope my music can be a voice for people when they need it. I want to help.”
“Wasted” is a perfect representation of the vulnerability that she aims to portray. The upbeat and emotional track details a relationship in Cassidy’s life that taught her lessons and serves as a positive message that she gets to share with her listeners. The song itself is nothing short of spectacular as Cassidy’s vocal talents shine over top of the TyC production. I could go on and on about Cassidy King, but it’s just best if you give this song a listen!
