Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, better known by his stage name Vector, is a Nigerian hip-hop and rap artist whoâs had a long and successful career in music. The creative made his artist debut back in 2010 with the release of his album âState of Surpriseâ and broke into mainstream the following year with his music video for âGet Downâ featuring 2baba. After Vectorâs first taste of viral success, he earned the opportunity to collaborate with Mavado of DJ Khaledâs We The Best Music Group for his track âBorn Leader.â
Fast forward to 2016-2020, Vectorâs success only continued. He performed at the 2016 One African Music Festival, the 2019 SXSW, and was featured on the 2020 BET Hip-Hop Awards Political Cypher and BBC 1Xtra African 360 Freesty.
Before the release of his 4th studio album this year, Vector gave fans a preview of its vibes by dropping the single âMama Maradonaâ and later releasing an official music video for it, which has seen well over a million views.
Released on November 11th, âTeslim: The Energy Still Lives In Meâ allows fans to interact with different aspects of Vectorâs career. The album is named after Vectorâs late father, Mr. Tubosun Teslim Ogunmefun. He took it a step further by creating the acronym TESLIM, The Energy Still Lives In Me. The project is a reflection of his fatherâs teachings, his approach toward life, and the ability to live through oneâs choices and mistakes. It focuses on the many parts of Vectorâs journey, beginning with his search for self-awareness and moving to the turning points in his life that led him to today and the beginning of this new chapter.
