Sweet Dreams, Darling – [Damien Styles]

With the fact that I’m always on the hunt for promising up-and-coming acts, I try my best to tune into as many artists as I can, especially the ones that my friends send me. Some might be better than others, but either way, I can often see the promise in one’s music and their skills, so I always have to remind myself that this is just the beginning for most of them, and their talents are only going to grow if they surround themselves with the right people who know how to take them from a regular musician to an all-out superstar.

One person I was put onto a few months back goes by the name of Damien Styles, and while I’ve written about him in the past, I just simply can’t get enough. At first, I was captivated by his music because he almost had a vibe similar to Lil Peep, Lil Tracy, or some of the other punk/emo-inspired musicians that have graced a microphone, but there was something different about him that I couldn’t quite pinpoint. After doing some thinking, I feel like the main differentiator is his demeanor, because even if he gets into dark, depressing topics at some point, he has this rebellious and almost optimistic disposition that is unique and compelling, which keeps me coming back for more.

I’m a little bit late to the party for his latest song “Sweet Dreams, Darling”, but as soon as I got around to checking out the music video, I had to write about it. In this one, certain homemade, intentionally lower-quality shots are mixed in with a plethora of cinematic, clean clips of Damien galivanting around town with his girl. It’s clear in his lyrics that she is definitely someone special in his life, and this carries over into the visual as you see the way these two get along and love each other’s company.

All in all, this is a super appealing video considering they take us to so many different settings and colorful places around their town, and it’s yet another reminder that Damien has all the makings to be a star. In all honesty, this might not be one of my favorite songs personally from the rising talent, but the video is awesome and it’s still a stepping stone in the right direction, so make sure you check out Damien Styles’ latest release “Sweet Dreams, Darling” as soon as you get the chance.
