Strawberry Cake / Temptation – [909Memphis]

If you’ve been following along with my articles over the past year and a half or so, 909Memphis should be a name you’re all too familiar with at this point. Although I’ve been following along with his career for almost a half-decade, at this point, I never cease to be amazed by his completely unique and individualistic sound, and he only continues to get better with time.

While I firmly believe that the amount of time he has spent perfecting his craft should have skyrocketed him into the spotlight by now, he knows exactly how much potential he has, so he’s not going to let this discourage him but rather use it as a reason to keep going harder every single day in order to make it big sooner than later. At the same time, I alongside the rest of his constantly growing fanbase know exactly how much of a hidden gem he is in the music industry, so I’m just thankful to be able to call myself a day one supporter, and that support isn’t ending anytime soon.

Just a few days ago, Memphy decided to drop off a one-two punch of songs, and I couldn’t be more excited to share them with you. Beginning with “Strawberry Cake”, QuaXaR creates an instrumental with some soothing synths and piano chords that are complemented by crisp percussion and some deep, pungent drums that make you feel as if you’re somewhere floating around in the clouds. This tranquil floating continues even more so when Memphis begins to sing because there is just this natural airiness to his lines that just echo off into the distance with the most peaceful grace I’ve heard in a while. Not only this, but his various flows and catchy hook all combine for one of his best songs in recent memory, at least in my personal opinion.

Complementing this track is a song entitled “Temptation” that was produced by RyBaby and Vangala, who use guitar riffs and a bouncy percussive progression that gives this track a bit of a Latin or Reggaeton flair that I’ve never really heard from 909 from what I can remember, but he absolutely kills it once again. In this one, he just swings his vocals perfectly as he effortlessly changes his cadences so that his lyrics just bounce along with the rhythm of the song. While some lines might come through softly and gently, there is a passion and a sentiment behind every single word he sings, bringing this record to the next level in the most indescribable way.

After listening to these two hits, it should be abundantly clear by now why I speak so highly of the rising star. He is just such a one-of-a-kind artist who has his own individualistic style and is blazing his own trail rather than following in anyone else’s, so that’s something to respect in and of itself. While the first song might be my personal favorite of the two, I definitely think both are extremely strong additions to his repertoire of hits, so I don’t think either one was even close to being a miss whatsoever. As long as 909Memphis continues making music, he knows he’ll have a fan in me, so if you haven’t familiarized yourself with him quite yet, make sure you do so as soon as you can by checking out his two latest songs “Strawberry Cake” and “Temptation”.
