Stop Signs – [OG Stevo]

Being from Chicago, I know just how many local icons there are, and I take pride in trying to tap in with their music whenever I get the chance. This city has always had this magical buzz behind it, and I still don’t know if it’s in the air or the people that we are lucky enough to be around on a daily basis here, but regardless, the talent pool here is pretty much unmatched even if the rest of the country isn’t ready to accept that. Well, one emcee who has had the city’s heart for years is OG Stevo, and whether you’re from here or not, it’s probably a name you’ve come across a handful of times if you dive a bit deeper than the mainstream superstars that are household names at this point.

Although Stevo might not be as well-known as some of these world-renown artists, he has been receiving some much-deserved recognition from major outlets, attracting attention from us here at Lyrical Lemonade, The Chicago Reader, Revolt TV, while also being played on city-wide radio staples like Power 92. I think this says so much more about his abilities, because not every independent artist gets this sort of shine, but when you listen to his music, you will understand exactly why everyone in Chicago is such a fan.

Just the other week, he released his song “Stop Signs” which showcases the more melodic, tuneful side of his skill set, and even though he doesn’t always utilize this sound in all of his music, I am always impressed with just how well he is able to sing after hearing how incredibly he raps on other tracks as well. Luckily, he kept the party going with an LJAY-directed visual for the track, and this one proves that you don’t need million-dollar budgets and overly hi-tech equipment to truly make a masterpiece.

Here, Stevo and his group dress up in sharp black suits and tote weapons (which are specified as props right at the start), and while they stay put inside a warehouse for many of the scenes, Stevo shows us why he is always the life of the party as he dances around and demonstrates his natural showmanship. OG Stevo is seriously one of the best local emcees out, and with music as amazing as “Stop Signs”, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world takes notice, so make sure you get in tune with this awesome music video as soon as you get the opportunity!
