Somebody I Know – [Era] ft. [Dro Kenji]

Considering it’s the year 2022, it should come as no surprise that Internet Money has been a breeding ground for some of the most talented up-and-comers in the hip-hop world, and their strength seems to grow by the week. Sure, they might work with superstars like Lil Uzi, Gunna, Future, Lil Tecca, The Kid LAROI, and way too many other talents to name, but their in-house roster is full of some of the most incredible producers, singers, and emcees in the game, making them a collective that simply can’t be ignored if you call yourself a music fan.

Dro Kenji is an artist who I found myself gravitating towards the instant I first heard some of his early songs like “100 Rounds” or “Save Me” off of his debut project Tears and Pistols which came out at the end of 2020 and seeing how much potential he had back then has only snowballed into the successful career that he has maintained ever since. Era is a singer who might still be making his way up the rungs of the industry, but his voice is just so unique and special that it’s impossible for others to ignore him in any way possible.

Although I’m a week or two late to the party, when my friend texted me asking if I heard this duo’s latest song “Somebody I Know”, I stopped everything I was doing and tuned in. Produced by Pharaoh Vice, Ryder Johnson, and niketaz, these hitmakers use some different guitar renditions combined with powerful kick drums and percussion that breathe energy into the foundation of this remarkable record. Era begins with a soft yet confident psalm, eventually raising his levels of enthusiasm in order to match the dynamic energy of the instrumental perfectly, and he continues to effortlessly sway his vigor as the production changes throughout.

Although we have to wait almost 2 and a half minutes for Dro to show up to the party, he wastes no time whatsoever, immediately integrating his lively and addicting personality into the record, leaving us with a somewhat quick yet impactful verse that I haven’t stopped singing in my head since first hearing this track. Era and Dro Kenji may still be proving their worth to some, but I already know the massive talents they possess will lead them into the spotlight in no time at all, making “Somebody I Know” an obviously impressive single that you are going to want to check out immediately.
