Tuscaloosa, Alabama is certainly not a city synonymous with birthing rap artists but the town most notable for winning college football championships looks like it may be witnessing the birth of a small but quite potent rap scene lead by Tyrell whose new track and video for “Rocky” is one of my favorites out of Alabama this month and Tyrell puts his own unique spin on the recognizable Birmingham flow while stepping up to the plate with a litany of hilarious and clever punchlines that keep listeners coming back for more. Niles Bryant handled the video’s direction and while Birmingham and the surrounding areas are beginning to form a distinct flow and delivery, Bryant, as well as Krispy Kam and Carlisle Jones, has been able to create a hype atmosphere in the middle of a jumping and turnt crowd that usually ends up screaming at least one bar in unison and it is one of those things that will always give me chills when I watch. I hope Alabama can keep climbing and Tyrell can follow up this new visual with one that is equally impressive, it is a state jam-packed with hidden gems and I would definitely recommend digging in.
