With so much unbelievable music dropping this past weekend, it can be hard to keep track of what’s worth listening to and what can go by the wayside. Baby Keem’s album is what I have personally been bumping pretty much nonstop for the majority of the weekend since it dropped, and while I still can’t get enough of it, I couldn’t let certain songs go unnoticed because they deserve so much praise. One of these records is “Right Track” by Syd featuring Smino, and it’s a record you’re not going to want to forget about moving forward, and that’s a fact.
I’ve been a huge fan of Syd’s ever since the Odd Future days, and after taking a different career path since these wild days about a decade ago, Syd is truly coming into her own, but you don’t need to hear that from me to get where I’m coming from. On this new record, the instrumental contains some fresh, retro-sounding instruments as well as some tempo-setting percussion and quick, succinct drums that create an unbelievable foundation for her to do her thing. As she begins to sing right off the bat, her words are spoken in a very calm yet endearing manner, showing us exactly how serious and passionate she is about the message she’s singing about.
Moving on throughout this track, she swings her vocals masterfully, showing off her incredible range while still never really belting out any crazy notes in order to keep things consistent while still proving just how talented she is. Smino was the perfect addition to this song because he always has a very similar calm, cool, and collected vibe that fits the style of this record unbelievably well.
When he comes in for his verse, his straightforward, no-frills style of rapping fits perfectly on the beat, and his flows are as effortless yet beyond impressive as it gets. This might not personally be my own favorite style of music, but that doesn’t mean I don’t absolutely vibe to it and see just how impeccable it is. So, I highly suggest you take some time out of your busy schedule to lighten the mood and groove out to Syd’s newest track entitled “Right Track” featuring Smino as soon as possible.
