Over – [Lucky Daye]

I’ve only gotten familiar with Lucky Daye not too long ago through his work with Kaytranada, but there was no doubt in my mind that he is a star, and I was so stoked to see what else he had up his sleeve. His versatility and ability to rotate through various genres make me, and the rest of his fans, excited for the future, and I truly believe that he deserves so much more recognition than he gets. In a somewhat confusing time in R&B at the moment, he’s a breath of fresh air and is bringing so many great sounds to the landscape of music that I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.

Most recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see him drop off a brand-new song and Machine Operated-directed music video for his record “Over”, and after tuning in, the results were even better than I ever expected. In this amazing music video, Lucky finds himself inside of a very extravagant, old-school-inspired theater full of intricate patterns and vibrant colors that all come together for an unbelievable setting. When we catch our first glimpse of Lucky, he’s sitting in front of a mirror inside some sort of green room, but when he walks through the curtains into the hallways, a flock of women and paparazzi swarm him, not leaving him alone even though he’s looking for his girl, who is played by Jordyn Woods.

From here, he tries on countless different outfits in front of a few mirrors, and each outfit is rotated through along with the beat, providing some awesome crossover between the song and the visual. Finally, he gets to Jordyn, walking through all the previously seen scenes before the curtains open and he finds himself in a panic as if this was all a dream. “Over” itself is an unbelievably remarkable song, without a doubt, but the music video is an amazing accompaniment to this release, making it something you’re not going to want to miss out on for even one more second.
