Options – [Lil Eazzyy]

Every day, it seems like there’s a new superstar coming up out of Chicago and putting on for our city, and it makes me so proud to call this place my home. While superstars like Juice WRLD, Lil Durk, G Herbo, Chief Keef, and Lil Bibby are household names and world renown, there are so many other talents making their claim for the throne known, and Lil Eazzyy is one of the most prominent names in the entire city.

Obviously, his mixtape Underrated which dropped last year put him on the map and it’s still a project I revisit regularly because it has longevity and is full of hits, but I’m sure his fans don’t need to hear that from me in order to know that it’s true. When he dropped Rookie of the Year earlier this year, I feel like it flew under the radar way more than it should have and it didn’t quite add to his legacy as an artist the way it was meant to, but nonetheless, I think it’s a very solid album and something that deserves so much more love than it received.

Nevertheless, Eazzyy is always working, and even though he might’ve been quiet recently, he ended his silence with his song “Options” and the J Oak Films-directed music video that accompanies it. In this track, there is a very serene yet almost frantic melody that combines with pungent 808s and tapping percussive elements that come together for a very Michigan-sounding instrumental that isn’t at all something I’d expect Eazzyy to hop on, but he kills it without a doubt.

He is in attack mode in his verses, showing off his ruthless flows while also sprinkling in some wordplays that are as creative as it gets, and I seriously don’t think it could’ve come together any better than it did. Lil Eazzyy might still be on the come up, but he has been one of my most consistently played artists since he hit the music scene, and “Options” is just another reason why he is one of the best Chicago emcees in the game right now.
