No Room Remix – [Nana Adjoa] x [Johannes Klingebiel]

There are very few things better than discovering amazing new artists, and my recent discovery of Nana Adjoa is no different. Signed under Bloomer Records, Adjoa is an immensely talented Dutch-Ghanaian singer & songwriter. Based in Amsterdam, her sound sonically takes on a multi-instrumentalist approach which allows her to maximize the extent of her poetic musicianship. Her latest album entitled Big Dreaming Ants is what I first stumbled upon, which is a flawless project with ten exceptionally diverse records that solidify the body of work. As a follow up, Adjoa collaborated with the skilled DJ & producer Johannes Klingebiel for a unique remix of her most popular track titled “No Room.” The original, which is on her aforementioned album, is a soulful song with an assortment of organic instrumentation to emphasize Adjoa’s serene vocals. On the remix, Klingebiel employs an epic electronic variation with intention to uplift the tempo, making the record sound entirely different from its predecessor. On both versions the production is crisp for emphatic expression, which blends tremendously well with Nana’s soft, yet emphatic lyricism. A clear difference is the space between Adjoa’s pauses or momentary silence, which Johannes  uses to accentuate electronically. To me, a remix is successful if the listener cannot discern which version they favor over the other, which Johannes Klingebiel certainly succeeded upon.
