It’s a year of “new” for Anna Wise… and not just music the music either.

Sure, she has a new album on the way–As If It Were Forever is due out in October–but, more importantly, the Grammy-winning crooner welcomed a new addition into her family with the birth of her first child.

Naturally, as you can imagine, having a child changes your perspective on things. That’s where her new single, “Nerve” comes in. A song about taking stock, evaluating relationships, and embracing change– doing some proverbial housecleaning if you will–“Nerve” carries that rejuvenating energy both in spirit and sound.

Produced by Nick Hakim and her partner in music and parenting, John Bap (who also handled the artwork), “Nerve” has effervescent feel thanks to the live instrumentation highlighted by some exceptionally crisp drums. Normally, Wise leans more towards the atmospheric and ethereal sound, but the lively production complements her airy vocals and is a natural fit with her spirited energy.

If you can’t wait until October, you can catch Wise playing some new cuts during her show this weekend at Le Poisson Rouge in New York.
