GOOD MEMORIES – [Lucki]

Although Lucki might not be someone who is constantly played all over the radio, raved about in the mainstream media, or showcased on the biggest charts in the world, I think he is one of the most influential artists to come out of Chicago in the history of rap music. I’m not sure if the mainstream industry just isn’t ready for his sound or if they’re simply afraid of something so different, but either way, Lucki’s following is one of the strongest, most loyal fanbases in the entire world, and I am extremely grateful to be a part of that community.

As the years have gone on, it seems like there have been different phases and sounds throughout his career, and asking me to pick a favorite is like asking someone to pick their favorite child, so I can’t quite answer that directly, but I just love seeing the progression he has made throughout the years. It seems like he is never content with staying stagnant, and this is more obvious than usual in his brand-new song “GOOD MEMORIES” which was produced by both Samson and Fallwood.

While other songs from the underground icon can tend to have a slightly darker, more devilish hue to them sometimes, this song almost feels angelic in a way as if we just got to Heaven’s gates after floating through the clouds without a worry in the world. The instrumental’s ambient nature definitely helps provide this vibe, but Lucki’s lyrics are just as lighthearted and buoyant even when they seem to barely escape his throat. The way he seems to reflect on his past in a positive way rather than destructively is a slight change of pace that I was intoxicated by, and it’s a direction that I would love to see Lucki explore much deeper and more thoroughly in the future.

I have no idea what the next decade of Lucki’s music is going to sound or look like even slightly, but I do know that it is bound to be filled with even more game-changing styles and trendsetting innovations, so I am on the edge of my seat waiting for more. “GOOD MEMORIES” will allow you to sit back and reminisce on the past just as much as it will get you beyond thrilled for the future, so make sure you tune into this compelling new track from one of Chicago’s most talented and iconic artists.
